Far away from the hustle and bustle of the city and the hectic traffic jams is often the place we like to aim our tires. From the top of some remote mountain to the bottom where only our truck rests with a cooler full of beer and a lake to call our own is where we mountain bikers strive to be. This is the epitome of a great road trip and is available on demand in Northern BC.

Episode 5 – sees our Rocky Mountain Athletes, Geoff Gulevich, Andreas Hestler and Keith Stark explore the sweet singletrack of Northern BC. From the North’s gateway city of Prince George to the robust towns of Smithers and Burns Lake, they discover some unexpected gems and a unified commitment to mountain biking.

Sometimes a little bit of effort is required to plan a road trip. Too often the places within our knowledge base cause us to push the easy button and lead us to overrun zones with full campgrounds and beaches teeming with hot sweaty bodies. But in Northern BC, once you arrive there is a feeling of expansiveness and solitude that speaks to adventure and something that satisfies the soul.

This is an area teeming not with people but with wildlife. Fish fill the rivers and the possibility of Northern lights teases the evening après. The Days are filled with exploring and every person in the North seems to be committed to living a life full of outdoor experiences. In the northern towns, the people’s energy is positive and open; there are no traffic jams, there is no hustle and bustle, just a vast space to plan your (next) adventure.

A big thanks to Northern BC Tourism and to the communities for their support!

Stay tuned for the final episode to drop in the near future: “Cariboo Chilcotin”. We hope you enjoy our explorations, learn something perhaps you didn’t know, and are inspired to get out and discover new regions of BC on your bike.

Nice! Northern BC riding is seriously underrated, with some amazing trails. Definitely worth the visit if people can drag themselves away from the southwest part of the province. Great feature!

Awesome riding in the States. I lived in NY when I was younger & always thought the Adirondacks would be incredible riding. Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire? Must be great riding there, they certainly have the terrain. I've been lucky enough to ride or ski all over the western states & never came away disappointed. California would be my dream retirement, ski, bike or surf all in the same day...Sucks though as I can only stay for 6 months at a time. Although a recent trip to BC's Sunshine Coast has me rethinking where I want to go.

Nice feature, showing off my back yard. Lucky to have been able to ride most of these areas. A little cheesy but the message is true. Lots of fun riding in the North, they overlooked more than a few spots as well.

Hahaha, too true!! The mosquitoes were especially bad this year for some reason. If you come up here aim for mid July, most of the bugs have thinned out, the days are still long. This area has so much potential. PG has Tabor Mt. about 15 minutes east that has a vertical drop of about 3500 feet that is basically untouched. Then there are the McGregor & North Rockies ranges that I don't think have ever seen a bike tire. Further east there is McBride & Valemount & the northern Caribou range that are nirvana waiting to be further explored...I love going to other places to see & experience the bike & ski world from another perspective but I sometimes forget how fortunate I am to live & play where I do.
