 My thoughts exactly.

Good to see Brendan doing well on "Brendan tracks" ... oh wait.
Running out of excuses now really isn't he?
  • 8 6
Still not rough enough? Maybe should have raced on a hardtail?
  • 12 10
dude needs to take training more seriously... I'm guessing. Ditch the flat pedals too.

As far as i've been following his blogs he does train pretty hard these past few years. a lot of xc and gym. he was pretty f*cked during the preview though Big Grin
  • 17 3
He is still pretty young, but, like the England football team, I was expecting better lol.

Why all the hate? Just let him do his thing. You gotta love his style and whips! Hope he comes back to his old self one day!

There's no such thing as the old smbdy regarding races. Brendog is an average 30th world cup rider and that's all. Should be happy though since he has a lot fun riding his bike and shooting videos.

While Brendan is one of my favorite riders on the WC, there was little to no chance of him beating Bruni today. After Legogang, Bruni had more bottled up fury than he knew what to do with and he beat the shit out of Schladming besting his qualifying time and putting more than 4 seconds between him and Thome. Frenchy beast mode.

He's at least 3s slower than at the first split in his seeding run but it looks like he was faster in the 2nd split compared to his first run. My bet is he knew this track suited him, was under a huge amount of pressure to perform and something went wrong during the first split. As for switching to clips, it's the riders choice and clips being faster is just a myth. The riders run what they feel suits them best.

There was a pic of Brendan with no shirt on at one of the previous races. He does not have an athletes physique or anything like it. I just remember seeing it and thinking he really does not do any gym work. I don't think he trains as hard as he thinks he does. If he was putting in the hours it would show in his body. Simple.

humoroususername - no, I think his issue is pure mental. Just look at Danny Hart etc, none of them look swole, it's only Gee that looks like GI Joe.
  • 27 2
 Gee I Joe
  • 3 1
Gee and Stevie both dominated last year and even Stevie is looking wayyy more fit then he has, it definitely seems to help with the top riders.
  • 2 0
Brook also looks super fit, I remember seeing him shirtless in one of the Cairns trackwalk vids, he looked scary muscular.
  • 5 4
Gwin is a tank as well, same with sick Mick. Minaar is very lean and strong looking. Blenkinsop is clearly very strong on the pedals as is Brosnan. Danny Hart might look that fit but he is always strong on the pedals relative to his size so he must be. All of the win contenders look like proper athletes, Brendan doesn't, its pretty much as simple as that. He's not even close to contending for the win in normal circumstances.

With million dollar contracts on the line now they had better be in top shape
  • 2 1
Brendan clips in a lot of the time now anyway. Hill is the only one who is clipped in all the time
  • 7 0
Who is getting a million bucks?? And for what?
  • 3 0
 Lol @ million dollar contracts
  • 2 0
That's gold, million dollar contracts? This sport isn't that big.

 Leave brendawg alone...
  • 27 6
Oh dear I was expecting what with all the whining that brendog would get podium... *cough* Training *cough*

He trains more than you'd think, none of these guys that race at WC level are unfit. There was an interview with him earlier in the year and he said a lot of stuff that makes sense, His seeding time would have had him on the podium, so something must have happened in the race run.
  • 4 0
Yes all of them are fit but there is a big fitness difference between the top10 guys and the 80th place guy. Not claiming Brendog is in bad fitness. All I see from him is that he cracks under pressure. He had many great qualyfing results, he always looks amazing in practice and then fails to deliver when the time comes. Maybe he should visit a sports psychologist?
  • 3 0
Yeah, that could be the case, quite a few riders seem to "choke" under pressure. Or maybe he's just trying too hard. Like Danny Hart is or how Rachel used to be: you try too hard, you ride over the limit, then you either crash or scare yourself, and your run is over.
  • 3 0
Maybe it's partly the bike?? I don't think he has had results since champery worlds. No Sam hill to practice with either. He is a brilliant rider I think there is something small missing and when (if) he finds it the results will come
  • 2 0
He's a mad dawg either way really, seems to be having fun with it.
  • 2 0
@Turboute - he had good quali results on his new bike so I doubt it.

Fabdemaere - yup. I know I'm not even close to his level but I had a similar problem. I either rode way to fast and crashed like an idiot or try to rode safe and rode too slow. Just couldn't find the race pace and was behind slower mates numerous times. Wonder if that's his problem.
  • 18 1
I'm sorry, but anyone slating Brendan, grow up He's definitely better on a bike than you and what says he didn't make a mistake had a crash or a mechanical problem you've just seen the result if you'd seen the results from the last world cup you'd have said oh logic just had a bad run! Stop the hate

His qualifying time was faster, so it could have been that he ran into a bit of trouble (like some other racers too). There are many, many places where this track will bite you in the ass and have you off your bike before you knew what happened. I'm hoping he was just pinning it, giving it his all, but then made mistake somewhere in the gnarly bits. Whatever the reason, he's still far better than anyone dissing him here on the interwebs.

So I saw that "Gates Nicolai MTB Team" and got interested because one of the first rules of the UCi is that a bike has to be driven by a chain.
Turns out these guys race world cups with their belt drives, UCI delegates don't say anything.

Brendog is out there living the dream and shreds the GNAR for a living! Plus he gets in the top twenty or higher in WC and smashes it in urban DH and that takes nuts! Go free racer Brendog.
  • 4 3
my guess is in the track preview video he said.. "come and do a course check... see if you can hold on" Well looks like alot of other guys could and did as they went alot faster .... Ouch

People must remember, in order to have a legitimate 'field' within which one is the best, you must have a lot of riders who are not the best. Whilst it's a nice idea that they all take turns at being the best, it's also a fantasy. But also remember, Brendan is one of the best bike riders on earth. He doesn't need to win to validate himself. Clearly he garners a lot of interest without winning.

 4 secs....these days that's like a lapping..if there was such a thing in dh!

We could'nt come up with a video, so we just figured let's plaster the result across the homepage and move on with our lives.

Man, whatever went wrong with Pekolls run? Getting 31 on home turf surely has got to sting...

he was 5th after the first split, must have crashed somewhere? Anyone know? The other "locals" did really well though, stoked to see Gruber moving up!

what the f*** is happening to sam and brendog the last races...
  • 8 0
Sam has been doing quite well lately, not sure what races you're watching. Certainly not winning, but doing a lot better then Brendan.

loic has the rage to overcome, it will kick it at the next race !!
