Or even the opposite of their downhill "Dare" machine, the ellsworth Truth? or even the ellsworth Pure?
I didnt win the Knolly Podium in that "Name It, Win It" contest and now I always feel a small sense of resentment when I see one. Looks like I wont like this bike for much longer either
i dont want to comment too much and get people pissed at me but i just wanna say > im surprised that they would put this thing out and act like its the coolest new thing... with all the bad feedback its already gotten from its prospective customers you would think they would have done some market research before doing this and save face just a little :/
thats like someones grabbed a kona stinky frame .... changed the rear subframe the tinest bit and anodised the linkages blue ,
WOOOOW thats designing to the max there fellas !
Ellsworth has to be the laziest bastards, they re-release their previous design and then don't even take the time to come up with a new name - give the masses a free bike and they will be creative for us.
I love the small playful look of it, the top tub looks like it comes down nice and low.. awesome
Surprising there is no cross-member between the rockers, that would have made it so much for laterally rigid.
I have to laugh my ass off at all the cheeky comments people leave for stuff like this. LOL. Nobody really cares about winning the bike, we're just all haters having fun. God bless you crazy MTBers- rock on!!

..or Lizzie for short.
I don't want to a douchebag here, but Richard, it seems your articles are being posted with a significant lack of polish that's jarring against the usually great quality of articles on the front page. There are some really quite obvious (typographical) errors in a few of your articles today and you could spend a little time checking them over. For instance, the "wan't" here, and the "(link to pinkbike article)" included in the Hope 9 tooth article!
On the subject though, that's a very cool competition, glad to see a bike company looking to us like that : )
Wow, negative props and being insulted, great to see a mature response from the PB userbase here. A few typos is one thing, but not bothering to go back and check to see where you left yourself shorthand to insert URLs? Again, I don't mean to be contentious, but I genuinely noticed a change in the quality, and after checking, realised it's because there are quite a few errors in Richard's articles, and Richard uploads a fair few things I want to read!
3lfd3wd
I'm with you mate. I don't think I've ever read a PB article that hasn't been written badly. Of course the content is always interesting, but the grammar, punctuation and layout is not befitting of a bike magazine. There are articulate and intelligent people reading these articles, so a little spell checking or proof reading wouldn't go amiss.
ps I'd imagine the neg propping and insults are from people who also don't take pride in the written word.
Hey 3lfd3wd... ' i dont want to a douchbag here ' is not an actual sentence. Your comments are not as professional as most others on this website. You should look into that...
Wait, is that a prototype or a retro bike? Ellsworth must be in the drug business. I have never seen one on the trail but yet they still seems to stay in the game somehow. I have herd they have a sick headquarters too that looks out over the ocean. I think this bike looks quite similar to the one I used in the PS2 game Downhill Domination. I think that game came out in 2003 if I remember correctly.
the dare frame from 1999 i think is what this is based on
they are solid frames and very strong but expensive
only a few own them but the reviews for them are awesome
the rarity means they keep a premium
Man, the kids are gonna have a field day on that thing... "eeeew I don't like how it looks"... don't worry, daddy won't buy one for you anyways.
geez guys it even has purple ano bars AND ano linkage plates... it must be awesome (P.S. does anyone give a good god damn about how the thing rides?!?!?)
dont forget the main frame will have been switched up to accomodate the larger forks and what not
looks like they have just corrected what was wrong with the dare though
if not much has changed
that says a lot for the dare and this frame
people dont moan when orange and the like stick to a similar design theyre all over it like a tramp on chips
Man that thing looks whack! Whats with the rear end? My thoughts are that shorter rockers and a more compact rear end would be stronger and make for less lateral movement. That hoop over the rear tire is just nasty!
looks absolutley rank, its like theyve tried 3 differnt designs and thought fuck it wel put them all together. but im sure its build quality is immense and rides sick.
IMAGINE= "INTRODUCING THE OLD NEW DIFERENT SAME BIKE ELLSWORTH OF THE FUTURE, WITH UNIQUE OUT OF THE BOX DESINGS, EXPESIVE AS HELL DESINGDED FROM THE GROUND UP" HAHAHAHA
pretty slack, but remember the true angle is a straight line from seat to bb. They had to bring in the tube to allow for the wheel to have plenty of space.
Also, he said the seat tube was of a dimension that would accept adjustable seat posts. So when your in the 'up' position, your probably gonna be another three inches further over the back wheel! ..and what was he thinking when he said 'this bikes made for climbing all day and downhilling all night'???
it should be called the Ellsworth Inertia or the Ellsworth Accelerator or the Ellsworth Archer or the Ellsworth Incendiary or the Ellsworth Phalanx or the Ellsworth Extant or the Ellsworth Perspective or the Ellsworth Captivate ...as long as you guys don't pick something simple and stupid for the name, I love that bike
Not a big fan of their bikes, but I gotta say, gchronz, I like your idea of "wager" It does seem to fit in with the other names of their bikes. Cool idea.
Sorry i just watched the video and he said the bike will be ready for PRODUCTION in SEPTEMBER 2012???? DUDE! Its outdated now, its gonna be a freakin' fossil by 2012 september!!
FUCKING BULLSHIT... all these ideas for names are far from original.... go ahead and negative prop me.... i have 3 great ideas for names that i am sure the company would love to hear but never will because they are too cheap to extend this contest to Canadians and other people around the world... Ellsworth just went down one notch in the respect book.... LAME
"ELIGIBILITY: The Ellsworth “Name the bike” (“Promotion”) is open to all who are legal residents of the 50 United States (excluding Michigan) and the District of Columbia and eighteen (1 years of age or older at the time of entry. Promotion is void in Puerto Rico and Michigan and where prohibited by law."
Pinkbike is Canadian so why would they support a competition that isn't available in Canada? The contest isn't open to anybody except the US so stopping giving away your ideas in a public forum.
i don't see why they need to make a prototype. it may have more travel, but it's the same bike they've always made with no changes. still going with the 16" rocker arms just screams "out of ideas"
It always surprises me how much hate Ellsworth when in fact they have designed and patented one of the best suspension systems out there. It design need long links to avoid pedal feedback and good pedalling efficiency, the design is more the next step forwards from FSR rather than kona single pivot.
I think its a cool bike, and look how sexy that machining is on the top rocker!
So on that note i think it should be called the Ellsworth rocker
Or maybe the Ellsworth Spirit or Spiritus as it catches the essence of what a do it all long travel bike should do, and Spiritus is Latin for breath, which is in theme with the cockpit design.
What I find strange is it's called a " DH proto type " yet it's been made so it climbs well ? WTF ? when was the last time you based your opinion on a DH bike by how well it climbs and if you can run 2 chain rings? sorry nut I find this totally laughable
I think its more of a mini DH bike like the TR250, but if it just happens it can have a front mech compatibility why not state that. I think the DH bike that climbs well is down to the ICT design, it's actually really good design when you look into it.
"huge departure from that company's once-conservative approach to bike design" (some idiot) This is the same old tired ellsworth design we've seen thousands of times for the last 200 years. They should name the bike "tired". Too tired to change the design from the old dare dh bike, oh this is exactly the same design. Name it flashback, to last years dare.
Wow, 466 comments (at this time) and I don't think I saw one positive....am I surprised?? NO!! Wow...amazing that Ellsworth is still in business!! I am sure that any Ellsworth employee reading these comments is crying now....too bad.
How about the Elsworth BARF. Huh, I missed the deadline? Wow, lame. I guess they were really serious about getting people entering this "contest". What a joke.
Nice!!!!
Advertise on a canadian web site for a name the bike give-a-way and oh wait....you can only be in the USA to win it !!!!!
GIve your head a shake PINKBIKE.
Marketing bull $hit everywhere. How can so slack seat tube be good for climbing? Moves your ass back, so while pedaling uphill you have front wheel lifted off the ground permanently.
He mentioned "the cockpit of the bike." Accoring to wikipedia..... " cockpit or flight deck is the area, usually near the front of an aircraft, from which a pilot controls the aircraft" To me that perfectly describes this bike. Your bike IS AN AIRCRAFT. And that is the most important part of the bike to itself and to the rider. When you are in the cockpit, you are in control. Your mission is to take flight, whether it is soaring off a drop or flying downhill. The Ellsworth Cockpit is the most meaningful and appropriate name to portray the drops, the jumps, the hills, and the flights it masters.
Otherwise I'd just call it the Ellsworth Prototype. Simple enough and self-explanitory.
PS. Ellsworth. I've never had a nice bike. And I'd really appreciate this bike beyond belief.
ellsworth krakatoa = The best known eruption of Krakatoa culminated in a series of massive explosions on August 26–27, 1883, which was among the most violent volcanic events in modern and recorded history. wiki
I WOULD CALL IT THE Ellsworth Profanity cause the words to describe all the tec and geo and the all around look is profanity and PS hope i win lol and I would buy it anyways AND PINK BIKE 4 EVER
Well as you've explained in the video, it's designed to do many things greatly. Freeride, light DH, climbing etc. So the name I have is ---> Ellsworth HERO
Props to Jimbur on the "Ellsworth Dialer", I think that name suits the bike also. Cool design btw, I like the oldskool vs new flair and the features, Hope to see some rad fluro colors!
Thanks man. I came up with "Dialer" after watching the video and noticing that its very adjustable. Each rider can "dial" it in to there own preferences in order to "dial" in any trail that they ride.
a sick name for the the new 180 fr bike could be be the "ellsworth DRIVA FR"... and "DRIVA" is cool because it could be taken as english but also its it means "power" when translated from swedish to english as a verb... you could just name it the "ellsworth driva" and drop the Fr at the end but that name would be sick cause it double means to key feature's free ride bikes are meant for " to be driven with control with lots of power go down"
Scratch it just it the ellsworth rival or some shit it doesn't really matter it's a bike and no matter what the name if its a goid bike then it will be well know no matter what its called and if rides like shit then it still doesn't really matter its just a name and no matter if its got the best name in the world if its a good ride it will sell if not then good luck
i dont want to comment too much and get ppl mad at me but i just wanna say > im surprised that they would put this thing out and act like its the coolest new thing... with all the bad feedback its already gotten from its prospective customers you would think they would have done some market research before doing this and save face just a little :/
my name is duster so i like it --- my personal thoughts are the "Protype" sticks with the unique fact that it is currectly marked "prototype" on the frame but its the PRO-type.... person thoughts
The Ellsworth....

You can fit commuter bags on that linkage, it extends so far. Add a basket up front and you got yourself an indestructible shopping bike.
geez guys it even has purple ano bars AND ano linkage plates... it must be awesome (P.S. does anyone give a good god damn about how the thing rides?!?!?)

Ellsowrth "Devastator"
2) "Ellsworth Tusker" was my first thought, I think it looks a lot like an Alutech.
the following due to its badass look:
3) "Ellsworth Predator"
4) "Ellsworth Raptor"
5) "Ellsworth Raider"
"ELIGIBILITY: The Ellsworth “Name the bike” (“Promotion”) is open to all who are legal residents of the 50 United States (excluding Michigan) and the District of Columbia and eighteen (1 years of age or older at the time of entry. im surprised that they would put this thing out and act like its the coolest new thing...
