Fox Racing Shox Changes Its Tune: CTD Gets More Compression Damping and a Progressive Spring Rate

Apr 19, 2013 at 14:16
by Richard Cunningham
Speaking at the Sea Otter with Fox Racing Shox's Mark Jordan, we learned that from now onward, all Float 34 CTD forks with strokes over 120 millimeters, and all Float CTD shocks will have new, more aggressive compression tunes. It seems that the folks at Fox finally heeded rider feedback about the 34 fork riding low in its travel and diving under braking. The new tune ads both low and high-speed compression damping forces to the stock tunes and a reconfigured air-spring provides slightly more rising rate. Mark says that the result is a smoother feeling fork that requires about five PSI less air pressure to attain a stable ride height - and far less dive in the fork under all riding conditions. Playing with the fork reveals that there may be truth in Fox's claims. We will report back soon after some proper testing, but from the small feel we got at the Otter, the 34 will be back on the must-have list this season.

Fox 34 TALAS fork 2014

A look at the 2014 Fox 34 TALAS CTD fork - Standard travel options are 160/130mm or 140/110mm, and all wheel sizes are supported.

CTD Settings Boosted

Changes in the damping include stronger tunes for the three low-speed compression options afforded by the black dial beneath the CT lever, which are engaged only when the 'Trail' position has been selected. The 'Climb' position has been boosted considerably as well to deliver a more cross-country feel under power. The original CTD forks had a tendency to blow through their travel and mush around under braking would solve the problem by switching to the firmer 'Trail' option and use its adjustable low-speed compression feature to address the fork's deficiency. The resulting fix returned the favor with a harsher-than-optimal ride. The new tunes return the fork's mid-speed smoothness and more importantly, provides much-needed ride height stability under braking and descending situations.

Fox 34 TALAS fork 2014

With all three options tuned to useful values, the 34 Float CTD system should become the versatile tool that Fox intended it to be. Turn the new TALAS dial and you get quick, well-defined travel changes on the fly.

Improved TALAS System

As reported earlier, Float TALAS forks have been redesigned, but now we have the hard info about exactly how and why the changes have been made. Earlier TALAS travel adjustments mechs used air transfer to alter the fork stroke. The new system employs a more simple and far more precise-feeling hydraulic mechanism to change travel lengths. Fox says that the new TALAS system has fewer seals and thus a smoother feel throughout its stroke. The simple bypass-valve design also can be easily configured to provide almost any travel variation that an OEM customer would need. On the damping side, TALAS forks now share the same damping system that standard Float forks use - a step up from the less-sensitive cartridge that was built around the original TALAS system. The new damper and travel-adjust cartridge will retrofit into forks using last year's design.

Inside the New Float X CTD Reservoir Shock

Fox expanded upon the information it released earlier on its new Float X CTD reservoir shock, saying that its damping and spring rates are specifically intended for enduro competition and went further, indicating that certain teams are testing the air-sprung damper to provide a potential pedaling advantage at select World Cup DH venues. The Float X CTD shock has a remote CTD option, and with the Worlds being held at South Africa, we should expect to see some additional trickery in the bikes beyond last year's dropper posts.

Fox Float X CTD shock 2014

Those in search of a performance boost over the venerable Float CTD shock can buy up to the new Float X CTD reservoir damper. Fox says that it is almost a DH shock, but much nearer to XC weight.

Damping on the new shock is tuned in the reverse of the changes made on the DHX damper this year. The DHX now has a smaller-diameter shock shaft to pump less fluid through the reservoir's control valves and to transfer more of the mid-stroke damping through the shock's more-sensitive main damping pistons. Float X CTD shocks pump a slightly greater percentage of fluid into the reservoir under compression to enhance the action of the CTD valve.

Fox Float X CTD shock 2014

Good: a rider's view from the cockpit shows how much more accessible the CTD controls are on the new Float X CTD shock. Not so good: To keep the Float X lightweight and reliable, Fox chose to tuck the rebound dial into a crevice in the sealhead. Slots are provided so you can use a small Allen key to turn the dial.

Why All the Changes?

What is all of this about? Well, it is no secret that the 34 has replaced the larger-stanchion 36 as the slider of choice for pro enduro racers and we expect that those boys and girls are riding custom tunes that led to the revamping of production Float 34 CTD forks. That Fox moved the CTD controls to the side of the shock, where they are readily accessible on the fly and boosted the pedaling platform. That, and and the addition of the remote option, pretty much shouts that the new shock is specifically targeted at enduro racing and the enduro riding style.

There is a strong wind blowing that we will see an air-sprung 36 lineup this year that shares the negative titanium coil-spring technology of the recently released 40 DH fork. Until then, the 34 will continue to rule the 160-millimeter-travel Enduro class. Prepare for a conclusive tests of the improved and redesigned Fox 34 Float CTD forks and the new Float X CTD shock in the very near future. Now, it's back to the Sea Otter Classic. - RC

How about ditching the dumbass ctd instead of trying to make it better, proper suspension does not need this Crap Tuning Disaster
  • 16 4
I don't think there is ever a time when I haven't been able to reach down and flick a switch on my forks or shock with ease
  • 20 2
For a new rider or someone not experienced with suspension tuning, CTD might make sense. It is incredibly simple. For me, I want a full range of tuning available.
  • 14 0
Just give us a wide range of LSC adjustments with a factory tune HSC. Or self tune HSC would be nice too, but for the love of god, dont lock us into preset settings for low speed...
  • 16 1
Seriously...fox needs a proper air shock (Vivi-air, CCDB Air, etc), based directly on the proven RC4 platform that so many thought would come out. It's nice you can change CTD on the fly/easier, but replacing true Hi-Lo Compression and what not is also crazy. Would be nice if you could actually set the changes via external and customize in your own presets (2), then have a switch that simply goes back and forth between the 2 presets (hard physical memory, no electronic crap) during riding. CTD generally puts people into 3 "rough" catergories/presets that may not even apply or work for half the riders out there... Would rather have 1 good setting than 3 bad ones.

maybe the new compression tune will have a better effect. Fox still has a huge share of oem spec. From a business standpoint they have to have a product that can plug into everyone's sus designs and be "user friendly". i think ccdb-like adjustability is great. i just don't think you can expect to keep the prices affordable if you go there on an oem platform. I don't know about you guys but this s***'s gettin way too expensive for me! just speculating...

more experienced riders' preferences will go to a higher level shock that has lsc/hsc, hsr/lsr or at the very least a custom tune. The float x is gonna try doing what the rs monarch plus has been doing with vivid-like damping. Fox will most likely change the size/volume of the float's air can for more compression by next sea-otter! so wait 2yrs bfore you ooh and ahh

My Float 34 lasted all of 4 rides. I didn't have much of a problem with the idea of the CTD settings but more how they performed, Climb-Trail-Descend... fair enough but really they were Lockout-Over Progressive-Divey As. For the price of the fork I didn't have a single thing to rave about other than the weight of it for a 160mm fork.
  • 11 11
Isn't great that if you don't like something you have a choice and can simply buy something different? It is so much better than having to go on internet boards and whine about it. Wait. What?
  • 2 1
That's why fox sell bar remote's for them :-)
  • 3 2
 @ TJquinn,

You know it's more than just lil kids whining...Fox is an amazing brand and definitely one of the better more mainstream shock brands out there. Most of the other brands are fairly cheapy-like (rough comparison) or brought over their crappy "moto technology" cause they knew in the MTB industry it would pass off as new lol. Simply brand loyalty and not wanting to see a good company go down a line/road that won't be good for consumer and company. Voicing opinion is just as valid as not choosing to buy as well. No one wants to be put in that position where no one spoke up and Fox ended up putting CTD ON EVERYTHING lol..then you'd lose a good company and be forced to move to another brand..

To be honest I think my float 34 and CTD rear shock work awesome. Stop bitching and start riding. Fannys!
  • 8 2
So for all the poor saps (like myself, skawt-1 and MountainSensei below) who purchased the 2013 34, is Fox going to offer any type of solution to the current compression problems on the 2013 models? We dropped a serious amount of cash on a brand new product only to find out a few months later that the new version is out with a bunch of changes? I can't help but feel disappointed after reading this article. "Not how that's done"
  • 5 4
I bet that most of the guys moaning about the lack of adjustments are probably not even very skilled riders. I have ctd trail adjust at both ends. It took me a little while to realize that the descent setting is pretty much good for nowhere and nothing. Far to divey in the front and Far to wallowy in the rear. After I added 20mm of float fluid to the fork things went from better to amazing. Once I dialed the pressures and rebounds for the trail 2 setting I am very impressed. The bike is plush but has plenty of support for berms and jumps. It also feels extremely balanced at both ends of jumps and rollers at high or low speed. It actually feels a bit too poppy in the front but I think that is mostly because my riding style had adapted to the Divey fork that discouraged aggressively weighting both ends of the bike. When I consciously account for this it is bliss. So after 6 months of trial and error I couldn't be happier with my fox suspension and won't be buying a new bike for some time.
  • 3 0
HA! Nope. Welcome to the world of bicycling, mackdaddy55! In with the newest, out with the slightly less new. ...Well, I guess you could purchase a new damper through your LBS. That's one "solution."
  • 1 1
sent my '13 34 back....turns out you can't internally adjust travel..."10 mm only"
  • 5 0
Mackdaddy. Get down to your bike shop and buy yourself 20cc of float fluid. And add it to the air chamber. Then set the fork up in trail 2. I use my body weight in kg in psi for this setting. Think of me when your boosting it to the moon on your next ride.
  • 1 3
I can't believe they're redesigning a trail shock around a (ahem) 'WC' DH track.
  • 6 2
I think we think, that we NEED to have infinite tuning options in order to maximize bike/ride/race performance. Let's not forget how "crude" tuning a mtn bike's suspension was 10 years ago. The simplicity of this CTD system is nice, and the built in "tune" of CTD is something any rider, beginner or pro, can easily adapt to. The current exponential advancement of suspension and technology is making us all pre-madonnas. This coming from a guy that thinks 9/10 riders fail to come even remotely close to riding a modern mtn bike to it's fullest potential. If you want infinite tuning, buy a cane creek. Leave the Fox CTD to us hacks who just like to ride our bike without fussing about grams, or having 17 clicks of slow speed compression. (I'm sure there are some placebo clicks built in there to make us feel like World Cup mechanics....)
  • 3 0
It's always dicey to buy new parts because you never know if there will be a major tech upgrade around the corner for the next model... but I must say I'm so glad I bought my last complete bike in 2012 haha, no CTD for me!
  • 3 0
"Pre-madonnas" I choked on this. Lol.
  • 2 0
It could be that he is refering to somebody from the post 1983 era?
  • 1 0
 Actual lol.
  • 1 0
I just cant help but think that fox are on some maaaajor drugs, like how can you expect to get good reviews and please your customers if your releasing supposed top end stuff with near enough to just 3 PRE SET adjustments.. and I know you can send these off to get them tuned, but if it came with the adjustments needed I doubt so many people would have problems..

I feel really sorry for the people who just bought their shiny new 2013 bikes with the first version of CTD on them. Fox should have tested CTD properly before releasing it last year. I welcome these new 'innovations' but how are people going to feel who've just got their new bikes with last years models? These components are too expensive for this type of messing around.
  • 18 0
yeah, thats me on my shiney new 2013 enduro. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CCDBair for next season, Fuck u Very much Fox.
  • 3 0
dmadness. Sorry to hear that. By the looks of it, it will be a long time before Fox, or should i say Fux (us), catches up with Cane Creek. Then theres Marzocchi who are on the up again with their '3 year product cycle' / 3 year warranties.
  • 2 0
yeah, I got a CCDB on my demo. BEST shock EVER. I am going to look into getting g a ccdbair next winter on my endurO but am unsure how much trouble I will have to go through Due to the specialized proprietary mounting. hopefully it is minimal .
  • 3 0
I got a new Nomad, luckily the float 34 CTD fork wasn't assembled on it or cut down, so I sold it brand new.. Went and got a Talas 36 RC2. much better.
  • 11 0
I have been screwing with the air pressure in my 2013 Fox 34 Talas 160 for about 3 months now... and this article does two things for me:

1) Confirms that I'm not crazy, and the fork either is too harsh, or sags too much, no matter how many mini-pssssst's (Technical term) of air I adjust
2) Pisses me off that I spent all of this money on my 34 with Crap Tuning Disaster. Fox should implement an upgrade program for those of us that feel like we got stiffed with failed tuning.

When is Cane Creek going to make a fork, so I can even my bike out?
  • 6 1
Well. There is choice. Don't by FOX. "Crap Tuning Disaster" - best quote on the internet today.

For the record, I am very stoked on my new CC shock and Zoke fork.
  • 1 2
Why would people be pissed that the new products are better than what came before?
  • 1 0
Same boat here. Just got a 2013 Enduro as well.

Now it's only my first bike, so I really don't know if it's something I'll notice right away. I try to stay in the mindset where I don't want to care too much about the bike/components. I just want to get out and ride and have fun. But what exactly is the problem that people are finding? Is there anything I can do early on to help at least a little bit? I'm still trying to figure out exactly how to set up my suspension. I'm 200lbs and I'm not sure what PSI I should be at, and what sag I'm looking for. The AutoSag doesnt seem do to do shit. I pump it up to like 250psi and sit on it and use the autosag, and then I get a sag closer to 40%. I'm thinking about getting the Air Volume Reducer but I'm not sure if that will help. I've been looking for a good post or guide to setting up CTD suspension and I can find one. Anyone have any recommendations? I'd appreciate it a lot.
  • 3 0
They are not pissed at that, they are simply pissed at dropping a load of dosh on something that was in fact worse than what came before. And now Fox has fixed it, and what, were supposed to be stoked? A lot of people are still hugely out of pocket, pissed off and riding a piece of shit fork/rear shock or both. And to make things worse, to get either to work right are going to have to throw even more money at it or send it off on warranty and be with out a bike for I dont know how long. Luckily though, I live 15 miles from Mojo suspension so I got mine sorted immediatelyWink . My fork and rear shock are running like a dream now.
  • 1 0
@Clamber - I went through the same experience with my 2013 CTD / Enduro setup. My on-bike total weight, including all my gear is 205 pounds. I kept blowing through my travel on the easiest of jumps and ended up installing the medium sized air reducer ($40 for the kit) and it solved that problem. Now I have about a 1/2-inch left of travel after most jumps, leaving me with something left over for big hits. Perfect.
  • 3 1
My new AM bike was delivered last week. 34 Float CTD up front and Float CTD in the rear... gash!
  • 2 1
You think that Fox accidentally released the first version of the CTD untested? They knew very good that it's not good, but this way (by releasing the updated version a year after) they can make a lot more $$$, and even look like they are listening to the needs of their customers.
  • 3 0
I also got the 2013 CTD Fox fork and shock. I never use the Descend mode because its utter bullshit. And the tune on mine makes the Climb mode feel near locked out and it loses traction up some climbs. Trail mode is where I stay most of the time, but I'm still not very impressed with the performance. Why didn't Rock Shox release the Pike earlier so I would not have to deal with the Crap Tuning Disaster of a fork?!
  • 1 0
Glad I'm not the only was who hates CTD, every setting is a terrible compromise. In fact, I have already broken my CTD damper and had to send it back to fox.
  • 18 0
Hey Fox - Please make it possible for 2013 34 fork owners to upgrade to the new compression parts / tune. I am running a few PSI above the recommended pressure. The sag is set correctly, but the fork blows through the travel on the Trail / Normal setting. I have never run the Descend mode for fear that I would damage the fork. Climb mode works ok, but to me... a lockout/climb mode is almost useless. I have yet to notice it bottom out. But, I have the highest level float and do not feel confident to run 3 out of the 5 possible settings. That just plain sucks.

I think it's great that you've recognized that the compression tuning is flawed. But, you really owe it to the current CTD owners to allow them to upgrade at a relatively low (or no) cost.

I couldn't agree more with you! Time to write Fox.

Seasoned riders should not loose-out on proper suspension technology. It's called "high-end" for a reason. I hate how manufacturers are catering to suspension noobs at the expense of the core riders.

I say, if you're spending quite a bit of coin on a bike, then you should damn learn how to set it up properly.
  • 1 1
you are a wise man, perhaps YOU should build shocks ( not being sarcastic ) GHlad to hear my new 2013 shock is going to be even better next year Frown
  • 2 1
And ride them properly! Then you wont need to do all the fiddling and controlling!
  • 5 1
RockShox, bring back Dual-Air. Fox, loose the CTD.
  • 5 0
RC2 available on all models, please.
  • 11 0
Bring out a 34mm fork with the range of tuning on the FIT RC2 cartridge, I love the idea of 34mm as a platform, but I would rather be able to fine tune them myself and not rely on CTD. I'm sure a lot of people out there would agree too, CTD is a great idea, but when you know what you're after it's rather limiting without a re-valve.
  • 8 1
The 2013 Fox cdt forks just plain suck. I work in a shop and have attempted to tune mine numerous times as well as send it back to fox. It performed so badly in decent mode I thought it was defective right out of the box and warrantied it. Will the bikes sell because they are fox equipped? Sure. But I sure as hell won't be pointing out how "Awesome" CTD is...
  • 3 0
Haha.. "decent" mode. Does it have any setting that you would even call decent?
  • 2 0
descend... I wish there was an option to edit text after posting. I will say that once I added more float fluid to the air side it is better. The fork just dives real bad when you brake. I found you either end up adding more air/oil and sit higher in the travel of the fork or you use trail mode with less air.
  • 4 0
@Curtc: trust me, i'm laughing with you (and at Fox). You said it by accident but it's true. I bet there's enough people out there that would agree that the 2013 CTD doesn't have any mode that's "decent". Give the riders hi/lo compression and rebound back please Fox. Instead of dumbing down the package so it's pre-canned, maybe put more effort into providing real setup guides - like what Cane Creek has done with their setup charts. It's not rocket science, but some base tunes that actually work for those ppl that don't want to play with their damping would be a step in the right direction.
  • 8 0
better...but im still waiting for a proper dh air shock. A new and redesigned dhx air maybe?. Something to compete with the ccdba and vivid air.
  • 1 0
Maybe the new vivd air that no-one can have? that's something you should get Smile somehow....
  • 1 0
it is no longer exclusively for pros, we can all shell out our cash for it sometime this summer

"We charge top dollar prices for our high precision, high quality forks... that are horrible for a year or so, and then we "fix"...." Sooo don't buy those other companies crap products!"

-"Oh wait... we're charging a lot for the name, while removing their ability to properly tune their own equipment? Oh well... we still have their money!"
  • 2 0
"...that are horrible for a year or so, and then we "fix"..."

A smart way to double the sales.
  • 4 0
I don't really get it. So, this just affects forks shipping from now on, or all the 2013 models? Why would you wait until Sea Otter to announce this? Why not just do it, this is fixing a mistake, not coming out with a new product.
  • 8 0
For Sale Fox fork 2012 CTD
  • 4 0
I don't mind my Fox 34 CTD, but I do wish my Float CTD had more compression damping. I run my suspension pretty stiff, but the Float always seems to ride deeper in its travel than I would like. But hell that is just nitpicking, overall my 2013 Fox set up is killer!
  • 7 0
Will 2013 customers be able to get the upgrade after market for their forks?
  • 1 0
Too right. I got my 2013 canyon strive in feb. and I have been looking at changing the forks and shock already.
  • 4 0
It's really frustrating that we've barely started using our 2013 parts and fox releases this. I would much rather not know about it until next year. It's crappy to know that you're not riding the latest when you payed for the latest. And it's not great for bike shop sales.
  • 4 0
 News release!

"After accepting they released a sub par product for 2013, Fox are offering all CTD owners complementary upgrades to 2014 spec"

Oh no wait I'm dreaming. I'm sure they will have another fancy new system for 2015 anyway.
  • 5 0
34 will continue to rule the 160mm enduro class? um, yea, cause 34s have a 20mm axle and the RC2 damper... oh wait that's right they don't.
  • 3 0
It's about time. Now how about those of us that have the crap you guys put out previously. Upsetting to spend hundreds of dollars on a fork that rides like shit. Only to have the new fork supposedly solving the problems of the previous iteration. We should get a trade in amount for upgrading. I hate my 32 and I'm about to toss it in the garbage. End rant.
  • 2 0
I love how the 34 got glowing results across the board. Only now, with these latest changes, are people admitting that the first iteration of the 34 was flawed. This type of thing happens time and time again - just look at all the glowing reviews the Kronolog got, and what a piece of junk that turned out to be. I love Pinkbike and the likes, but there's no substitute for trying something yourself, or at least seeking out an impartial review.
  • 2 0
Received email from fox stating that I can upgrade my 2013 fork to the 2014 tune. They say that only their techs can do it, for now, so that I would have to send my damper in to Fox. Fifty dollars later , including parts, labour and return shipping included, and the the fork is 2014 anized. Hope people take advantage of this, even though they should do it for free, maybe less shipping.
  • 1 0
fifty bucks ain't bad. Was this for a 34 Float or TALAS?
  • 2 0
i had to choose between a 2013 Giant Reign 1 or a 2012 Giant Reign 0, for the same price, based on the Fox RP3 and the classic Talas 150-120, I knew i had to give it at least a year for the CDT to be mature... still getting happier and happier with my decision !!!
  • 8 1
 I prefer marzocchi
  • 4 0
Props to Fox for realizing their complete utter ballsup and swallowing their pride. Too bad it slips the double headed black mamba without lube to any Fox Shock 2013 owners
  • 2 0
Wow. Been a Fox guy for a long time now and can't help but feel a little duped. So much for my 2013 34 160. I noticed the dive on the first ride, and have come up with a somewhat workable solution for it (not exactly what I want, but it'll have to do), but I wish they would offer something for us fools who got on the CTD train early.
  • 2 0
After my experience with the original Fox 36 fork, I don't think I'll ever buy Fox equipment again. It was basically a giant block of wood strapped to the front of my bike. The TALAS never worked. The sticktion was terrible. I now have a 2008 Rockshox PIKE on and it _still_ works really, really well -- travel adjust and all (and it cost half as much and weighs the same). The Cane Creek Cloud 9 shock I have made a believer out of me, too -- functions precisely as it should, with no "issues" of any kind.

It is unreasonable, since every reputable reviewer -- including here on Pikebike -- was panning CTD from the beginning that it took Fox this long to fix it. (If it is fixed now.) IMO, of course.
  • 5 0
i'll stick with x-fusion for the moment....
  • 5 0
Im so glad ive just order some 2014 Rock Shox Pike RCT3!!!!
  • 1 0
It was here on pinkbike I first read about the CTD shock and pinkbike s take was not 100% fox did agree but not long after this released it anyway. Why? It clearly needed more testing and fox needs to listen to feedback rather than kinda say we do shocks we know more than you and this is right . It's us who pay for this. I'm a owner of a 2013 bike with CTD and the con sucks blows its travel way to fast . Going back to RP23 it works then leave it alone . Sick of being fox test dumby. ££££££££ gone
  • 2 0
I had the choice of a ctd or rp23 for my 2012 bike. I went with the rp23 and glad I did. I dont like all the bells and whistles. Would rather get it set up how I like and focus on riding.
  • 1 0
Thanks for your hard earned cash Rob, P.S we didn't bother to test it before we sold it to you, so although you may have thought up until now that you were riding an amazing product your fork is actually garbage. You can spend another thousand bucks to fix it though if you like.
  • 1 0
Yeah got the 13, 34, did the 20cc bit and all it helped, but thanks Fox for listening I was one whl wanted a more aggressive tune amd it sounds like you listened, is this tune abailable for 13 ctd forks shocks with our suppliers.
I will be waiting a bit this time to see if the float X lives up to the promise.

160 mode option, narly will go 160/170, on my bike I'll be running an XFusion HLR air front and HLR air rear, for 140/150 mode is 13 Float CTD front n rear for most Enduro, if 14 tunes not available and if XFusion is as good as many say, maybe a Slant 34 and Microlite will replace ctd, otherwise option 3 is Pike and Monarch plus.
  • 1 0
Regarding the Float forks, can we at least get some more detailed information on what numbers are going into "stronger tunes" compared to last year's models. I'm assuming they are just adjusting oil levels, PSI, etc. and it would be nice to know what the new baseline recommendations are now.
  • 1 0
Does anyone know if Fox is providing any kind of $$ deal to replace the 2013 CTD damper (on 2013 forks) with 2014 CTD damper? "Lack of stability under braking" is the best way to describe the problem. I wonder if using the rider 'safety' argument may work with Fox? (When I set mine up to its recommended sag - psi, the diving under braking could actually be considered a safety issue.) The diving issue is fixed by adding in more psi, but then I don't get near the full travel. AND THIS IS ON AN F120; SO I CAN IMAGINE IT MUST BE MORE PRONOUNCED ON 140-150 TRAVEL FORKS!
  • 4 1
I have the 2013 ctd shocks. I just add 5 psi over the recommended settings and it works great!
  • 1 0
I will try this. As i have noticed it dives a little

Hey fox, nice rebound adjuster. . Waiting for the Fox announcement of an all new spangly damper system at I Bike or Euro bike later in the year... it's Fox, they'll think of something.

2012 too linear? Dump more float fluid in the positive air spring chamber.

That's what I'm trying to tell people!

Lyrik DH damper smugly chuckles in the general direction of Fox headquarters.

Got my new enduro 2013 with one of these.
Crap, broken first ride. WTF?
Should have come here first.
Damn you Fox, I had a pike on my old pitch and thought I was getting a worthy upgrade.

For the slight weight penalty I'll still stick with my float 36.

Isn't it possible to internally tune the compressions on the fork as we have ot now?
  • 1 0
All this article says to me is that they're always improving. I love my CTD system for my front fork, with a very adjustable(manually tuned) RP23. Big Grin

I like to adjust my own damping to how I like it!

Buy DT Swiss, Marzocchi or Rock Shox.

I just don't see these issues but then again I'm not an enduro racer so I think I will survive on my 2013 ctd just fine.

at the end , its just trying to simplify things so you can just focus on the important things ...... like riding your bike , with no worries

FOX has an underservedly good dominance in most consumer's eyes, IMO.
  • 1 0
That's pretty much like making the paying customers find faults in the stuff they paid a lot of money for
  • 1 0
This isn't going to change much, I bet I'm still faster than anyone with the new CTD fettlings.

Do you know what would be sick.. An infinite on the go adjustable travel fork. I challenge you fox.
  • 1 0
It has been done. Look up Manitou Infinite Travel. It's gone the way of the Dodo bird though.
  • 1 0
Because it leaked air like a 60 year old window
  • 1 0
FINALLY MORE compression adjust ability from a FIT fork!

I want that on a 29 Specialized Enduro with a Hammerschmidt!!!!!
  • 3 1
 what is a Hammerschmidt
  • 3 0
Planetary gear for the front end. Absolutely incredible, I love mine!!!! Have not had a single issue with it, works without fail. Will never own a front derailleur again.
  • 2 0
I want the hammerschmidt to gain a third gear. then I could go single speed in the back and still have a large range and never drop a chain or have drivetrain issues ever.
  • 1 0
I own two bikes with Hammerschmidt's. Love them. Noisy gearing, but I love them. I like the single-speed concept taletotell envisions. I may have to try that out someday.
  • 2 0
Couldn't you hammerschmidtheads add an alfine hub? Then have 16 gears or something? Or better still, a belt drive hammerschmidt and Alfine hub. Would be super (Über?) quiet too.
  • 1 1
Alfine is heavy in the worst place to add weight.
  • 1 1
 me gusta!
