LSD Rides

LSD rides are an effective physical training tool…but so much more than that. Just like in the shower, great ideas and insights (Ah-Ha, Yirika, or Lightbulb) are free to flow; perhaps the reason the acronym for Long Slow Distance was chosen!

Contributing ingredients/conditions are:

- rhythm
- breathing
- body movement
- gentle/low mental requirement
- time
- letting go & surrendering to the circumstance

These conditions provide the chance that a random insight will hit. But when I need to really figure s**t out, I get intentional, and that’s when these types of rides can become powerful tools for your life. So add these ingredients to the mix…

Subtle but most important ingredients are:

- Intention before the ride – asking the right questions
- Staying present instead of zoning out
- Listening instead of thinking.

Of course, this last part takes practice. The key goal of the [L=http://www.ryanleech.com/connection/]‘Ryan Leech Connection’ website[/L] is to encourage practice that boosts your riding lifestyle. This weeks nudge for members comes in the form of an LSD training ride which explores the last three ingredients more fully, and a yoga class that aims to create the conditions for that Ah-Ha moment to strike. I heard one recent comment suggest that these rides should be called Long, Slow, and DELIBERATE; which I believe is a great mantra to use next time you set out for a big day of riding!

Enjoy!!

Ryan, the Buddha of bikes (sincerely). Thanks for the thought. LSD is a tough one for me but every time I saddle up I seek a deeper purpose. It's always nce to see what falls in when you're open to the moment. Cutivate enlightenment, I dig it man. Peace

Was just thinking about LSD, how we used that term in terms of distance running, and it's connections with trail riding. Nice to see someone on the same thought train!
