Rocky Mountain Altitude 70RSL Carbon - Review
Carbon down tubes resist structural damage to a greater degree than aluminum when struck with a anvil to accurately simulate impact from rocks kicked up from the front wheel. This experiment was conduced by Trek during the development of the OCLV carbon Remedy bikes. Where a traditional aluminum frame will dent, a carbon frame has the capacity flex, and thus does not change the resulting shape of the tube post impact.

Technical Tuesday: How To Bleed Your Avid Elixir Brakes
Also, you can pick up a bottle of brake fluid at your local auto parts store. Most brakes will use either dot 4.0, but can use dot 5.1. If you do buy 5.1 make sure that you push extra fluid through your lines in order to remove any of the older 4.0 fluid. It's always good to check your brake for the specification as not all brake companies use dot fluid ( shimano uses mineral oil...).

Technical Tuesday: How To Bleed Your Avid Elixir Brakes
I believe that all the avid brakes use the same bleed bleed port design.

Formula Brakes and Prototype Wheels and Fork - Sea Otter 2010
@ Dymented-Delirium. I'm sorry it my numbers were off, I used to the first credible source I could find and did not but extensive time into research. However i would like to also state that carbon does have a greater elasticity than aluminum. On Trek University ( Trek's online product knowledge site, which unfortunately is only available to Trek dealers ) it shows an anvil test on their newer carbon down tubes. essentially a weighted wedge is dropped from a determined high onto the down tube to show it's impact on a variety of materials. The aluminum frame is not compromised structurally but does surfer from a large dent. The carbon down tube bounces back to original form with only minor surface blemishes.

Hey, just so everyone is clear: The tensile strength of material is measured in Ksi: ("kilo-pound[-force] per square inch") Carbon fiber bonded with resin can exceed 1000 Ksi Aluminum ( Aluminium ) alloys range from about 15 - 60 Ksi Therefore, yes carbon is stronger.

Easton Haven Carbon All-Mountain Wheelset On Video: Sea Otter 2010
Carbon is not a one trick pony. Although yes, weight is important to a lot of riders it is not always that key selling feature for carbon bike part. I am of course referring to the strength of carbon and the way it behaves under stress when compared to aluminium.

Shimano 10 speed Drive Train - Sea Otter 2010
I agree with the phasing out idea, but I do know that Shimano does a lot of trickle down technology ( this years Ultegra is last year Dura Ace ). That being said I would bet we'll see 8speed get the axe and 9speed move down in price point.
