I was at the woodlot the day after the crash. The dude doing the logging tore the gap down because of this. Sucks that you won't be able to try it again when you're better. Good luck!

ROOT BEER SNAPPS WOOT WOOT! Good luck with your recovery, brotha. Busted my kneecap 6 months ago, I remember gettin on the road bike and barely being able to pedal, thought Id never get better. Then I could finally pedal halfway normally, but couldnt pump. But it all comes back, slow though it may seem!

good thing you Canadians have free health care, if that happened to someone in the states you would be paying bills for the rest of your life. and have to sell your bikes.

Canada has free health care. What are YOU talking aboot?
  • - 1
flag tom-cuthbert (Apr 9, 2012 at 22:06)
Canada does indeed have socialized health care, even partial health care for tourists that have accidents. But if there aren't any hospitals near you it doesn't really matter. I can't imagine having to ride a flat bed truck down a hill with 5 broken bones.

Where in Canada don't we have healthcare?

Recovering from ACL surgery right now, Its hard waking up every morning and seeing my bikes staring at me with puppy dog eyes. But there is no better motivation for healing up! injury gives a chance for reflection and to come back with an even better appreciation for riding, and just being so stoked to be doing anything - flowing an easy trail or just manualing down the street feels like charging a WC. Both of us still may not be back on the bike for a little more time, but i can guarantee you it will be an epic ride once we are. healing vibes my man!

I know exactly how you feel man, im recovering from a broken shoulder right now and the only thing i want to do is go ride. I dont think i'll ever take riding down my street for granted again (being the designated shuttler doesnt help either hahaha)

flag z05m (Apr 9, 2012 at 14:35)
I Had an ACL Last year. I was pretty shaken up. From the Hospital to weeks of recovery all that was going through my head was to ride. We all know it's a dangerous sport and even the pros hurt themselves. When I started riding after that, it took me 10 weeks to find my confidence back to where it was before the crash. All it takes is one false move.

As for Ian, Hang in there, get well and remember: If you don't feel it, don't do it. Tomorrow is another day.

Coming on 4 months out of a ACL & LCL injury and just starting to ride the bike again. Everything slowly starts to feel better. Good luck Ian, do lots of physio.

How's the ACL recovery going and what kind of surgery did you have done? I'm getting both reconstructed over the summer and am wondering what to expect...X2

flag devin-m (Apr 11, 2012 at 11:27)
I had a hamstring graft done, first couple of weeks were pretty uncomfortable and painfull, it has been almost a month and i am now in zero pain and walking without crutches. Its not a painfull experience just very slow progress... more of a head game than anything

Beauty that's what I wanted to hear! I'm patient and have a lot riding on all of this working out so I'm not gonna skimp on anything during recovery. Best of luck on the rest of your journey.

A friend broke his femur last year. Even though he was 50 years old, he was back on the mountain bike 6 weeks later. Here's to hoping that Ian's recovery is as quick and complete. Heal up quick!

sending you the best wishes too, get back in the saddle soon. I know how shit it is if you can not ride your bike, just broke my Tibia head badly and won't be able to ride for at least six month. So I wish you have more luck and get better soon. Always stay positive and keep your head in the present. Cheers Dude

What happened to you? I broke my ankle in two places bar spinning a drop back in 2007 and it was the worst thing that happened in my life. My advice to anyone going through recovery is to give everything you have at physio. I did physio for 3 months and got lazy at it so I never got full movement of my ankle again. It still doesn't rotate as much as the other and sometimes i feel my body asymmetrical while running, other than that i ride bikes perfectly, i gave up riding street though.

broke multiple bones in both hands, having rehab 4 times a week for half a year now... still did not get full movement and coordination back... not sure whether it will be back at a functional level that will allow me to do more then just ride along... we will see i am looking at building my self a fun bike for commuting and just riding at the moment, and selling all my freeride and dh stuff.
