Truvativ BlackBox Athlete Series - BlackBox Handlebars

by SRAM

BlackBox It started nearly two decades ago with the original RockShox BoXXer and our desire to provide completely personalized support to a special group of riders. The goal was to give our team a clear performance advantage in World Cup competition, and to win races. In this relentless pursuit of the podium, no rider request was too crazy or too costly—the average yearly salary of a pro mountain biker wouldn’t have covered the manufacturing cost of those gen-1 BoXXers.

It paid off. We won races and wrote some of the most exciting stories in mountain-bike history. With our athletes’ successes—and failures—we learned what worked, and what didn’t. Some of those BlackBox technologies have made it to market. As the sport evolved, the BlackBox program extended beyond RockShox. Across the SRAM brand family, if it could extend the boundaries of mountain biking, the BlackBox team was there to develop new products and technologies.

Truvativ

When our athletes asked for a different kind of handlebar, TRUVATIV answered with the BooBar, a bar designed to meet the demands of World Cup downhilling, as well as the discerning feel of our athletes. And now we’re proud to announce the TRUVATIV BlackBox Athlete Series, a collection of bars specifically engineered to match the demands of each signature athlete’s discipline and riding style—and to enhance each rider’s cockpit interface.

Danny Hart BlackBox Bar - The Right Angle
Danny Hart. He rides fast and loose. He turns the impossible into the ride of a lifetime. Danny spends countless hours working with his trainers and coaches to get more traction, power, and speed — and how to build the bike that’ll get him there. In the past, Danny used a 5mm space under his direct mount stem combined with a 20mm rise Boobar to lift him to the exact height he wanted, but that setup wasn’t seamless.

Truvativ

Designed by Danny himself, the new TRUVATIV Danny Hart BlackBox bar delivers the 25mm rise that he needs — with no spacers and less weight. We also added two more degrees of back sweep for a total 9 degrees, which moves his weight back, putting more pressure on the rear wheel. That keeps him exactly where he wants to be — on the trail, smashing turns.
• 7050 Al Alloy
• 780mm wide
• 25mm rise
• 5˚ up-sweep
• 9˚ back-sweep
• 340g

Jerome Clementz BlackBox Bar - Degrees of Perfection
Jerome Clementz. He’s an all-mountain legend whose name is synonymous with mountain bike enduro. Megavalanche, Mountain of Hell, Enduro des Nations — Jerome Clementz has won them all. Staying at the top means he needs to go even faster with as little effort as possible. Jerome asked us for wider, stiffer, lighter bar that gives him ultimate control without sacrificing the toughness he needs for powerful sprints and descents.

Truvativ

Working one-on-one with Jerome, we created the TRUVATIV Jerome Clementz carbon BlackBox bar — 750mm of carbon fiber perfection. With 5 degrees of up sweep and 7 degrees of back sweep, this signature bar keeps your bike light and strong so that you can rail every turn with precision.
• Carbon Fiber
• 750mm wide
• 20mm rise
• 5˚ up-sweep
• 7˚ back-sweep
• 240g

Stevie Smith BlackBox Bar - Raising The Bar
Stevie Smith. He rides the gnarliest terrain extremely fast. He’s a brute, strong, powerful and pointed straight down the mountain. Stevie lives in a place where the trees can swallow you whole so his style requires a heads-up approach.

Truvativ
Truvativ

We teamed up with Stevie to create a bar that is high and out in front, giving him ultimate control. His signature 780mm downhill bar features a 30mm rise, keeping his hands forward, his head up, and his eyes focused. It’s the strength, stiffness, and quality you’ve come to expect from TRUVATIV — but with some Stevie Smith baked in.

• 30mm rise
• 5˚ up-sweep

Steve Smith could have just saved a whole lot of his and Truvativ's time and just used a Renthal Fatbar... Exact same specs. Nevermind, Renthal is 15 grams heavier.
  • 6 0
What's more Sram called him a brute I'm pretty sure they hurt his feelings.
  • 9 0
Shame they don't do a low rise bar..... Ah well I'll just go back to my cave....

What has a Boeing 747 and Pamela Anderson got in common???
They've both got a Black Box.
Think about it for a minute, just think about it for a minute.
  • 16 1
think I'm just too young to get that, what they do have in common is both crashed and burned at some point
  • 17 0
Plenty of silicon in their construction too
  • 5 0
Theyve got some pretty heavy equipment on both too
  • 4 1
both have the ability to suck extremely well

 The Boeing 747 and Pamela Anderson travel around the world, city to city, meeting and satisfying the ever demanding needs of the World. As you may already know, the 747 and Pamela are both iconic workhorses in our society. They are both requested and used very frequently and have a demanding schedule that would tire out the common person. It is reported by the FAA that Pamela and the 747, receive payload, warm-up, lift off, reach their ascending climax, then touch-down and a quick unload, over 60 to 100+ times a day! To keep up with such frenzied schedule, experience in the field is a definite must, which the 747's crew and Anderson unarguably have. However, nothing is perfect and they comment on frequent frustrations;
--- "It's hard work you know? I'm here one night, do my work, open my rear bay and let the delivery trucks dump their massive payloads in my cargo bay.. There's just so much stuff coming in and out of my rear bay constantly, then add-in trying to meet the next deadline and delivery for special clients... it becomes like one big blur. The worst is when there's a delay with the airport we are at and the base crew take forever to finish me off..It's like sometimes you just want to shove everything deep in the cargo room and just close the door and leave!"

 Tommy Lee has ridden both...

Spicy-Mike I salute you for flying the friendly skies by writing a long body of text that makes absolutely no sense and has no purpose what-so-ever. I've been there countless times and know the incredible satisfaction that such activity brings, especially if done with no drugs at all. You get the feeling of being truly mad and that is fantastic!
  • 1 0
 Crazy gets props!
  • 1 0
No drugs believe me lol. And my imagination goes off often to a documentary, newspaper, etc etc. Write a lot too + Asian so it kinda helps.

Stevie's bar is basically a Boobar with different colors. Not saying its bad, or lame, just another clever way of marketing. Options, options. Blackbox sounds good...
  • 7 0
The colour of the BooBar, was the only reason I didn't buy it. Now that reason is gone. Finally. -Vain
  • 1 0
in my opinion they lost the wrong of the two colors of the boobar....
  • 9 1
Oh my lord, it's like they designed an article to instantly take every signature product hater to DEFCON 1, where's my popcorn...
  • 4 0
I always thought black box meant there was some advanced secret technology hidden inside. What these are are essentially twisted metal pipes. What's next, a black box water bottle holder?anyone who buys this just cause it has a black box sticker on it is a sucker for marketing!!!
  • 8 1
I wonder how much horse power the chrome ones add
  • 21 0
7, but you can get 4 more out of them if you paint on go faster stripes.
  • 5 0
I've heard you can double it if you add go faster checkers
  • 9 2
How about black boxxer stanchions already ? Just sayin ...
  • 3 1
 google fastsuspension
  • 1 0
I know about them but dunno why SRAM just wouldn't want to sell theirs .. add some choices like other companies provide...
  • 6 0
the rise on your bars should be about fit, not fashion. if your concerned about fashion go read GQ
  • 3 0
I dont know about the rest of the world but over here in the UK the trend over the last couple of years has been to run a low rise bar to get more front wheel traction and a lower rider mass height, i been told by mates and guys who ride at national level that that was the way to go with some people even running flat bars or low risers with negative degree stems. BUT i have noticed more and more worldcup riders running 25mm and 30mm rise bars and sometimes spacers under their direct mount stems too. Wish i had the money to buy 4 different bars with different rises to see what works for me.
  • 5 0
Think I need some stevie smith bars to go with my carbon devinci Wilson Big Grin
  • 2 1
Not weights what i expect from a blackbox product. It's just another paint and multiple degree's options... My 710mm wide scandium bar weighs 220grs... An Easton Carbon Bar for AM - Enduro its arround 185grs...
  • 4 4
www.chromagbikes.com/bars/osx pretty much the same as Danny Hart's bar, and marginally different from Smith's. But 30 grams lighter for all you weight weenies Wink Plus it's Chromag, you get steez points just for having it.
  • 5 0
 They ain't no Chromag
  • 2 0
I always wondered when they'd slap the Blackbox logo on production models to sell more... surprised they've not done it sooner.
tup
  • 1 0
They have done it before, although not with Truvativ parts. Some available Rock Shox forks have been labeled as Black Box in the past, e.g. I can remember a SID with a carbon fibre crown/steerer unit from about 10 years ago being called that. You're right, though, that they waited surprisingly long to put the name on simpler parts like handlebars.

Please come into the Lacrosse shaft market!!!!
  • 1 0
Are the bars emblazoned with the rider's name? I want bolth the Hart and Smith bends....... lookin hella comfy, but I'm not rockin another's name on my shit... the entourage was a stretch....
  • 4 1
IF IT AINT GOT "BLACK CHROME" GO HOME!
  • 2 0
I was kind of hoping they would get rid of the bulge where the bar bends, oh well they still look sick.
  • 4 1
Id get the Stevie bars just to get his name on em!
  • 2 0
wonder why Stevie signature series are 780mm when it's pretty well published he rides 765mm?
  • 1 0
Because it's a standard width for DH bars and it does have cut marks on it
  • 1 0
Generally a signature model would be to that persons specifications - not the standard spec for everyone. Obviously this way they reach a greater market and this is all a big marketing push
  • 3 0
 so much marketing
  • 3 0
 ...so little substance.

There are just 2 workshops that know how to bend and taper tubing to make a wrinkelfree bar that does not need a lot of grinding to get the wrinkles out and weakening the bar in the process. Truvativ getting Boobarderivatives from them?
  • 1 0
Hey pinkbike I hope they paid you guys for letting them dump part of their product catalogue here.
  • 1 0
As an average rider on a good day, I feel like the "benefits" I would get from these bars just wouldn't justify buying them
  • 2 0
 Black Box= African Snatch
  • 1 0
Riser bars, flat bars, now back to riser bars....I'm confused! Which is the right bar?
  • 3 2
Do I need to be in the top 3% to ride these?
  • 1 0
Doesn't releasing blackbox for sale defeat the whole point of blackbox?
  • 4 3
Pretty cool that the public has an opportunity to buy blackbox parts.
  • 2 0
Yeah, also a pretty "cool" way to make us want to buy these parts. ooohh Blackbox. hahahaha what a f*ckin joke
  • 2 4
no carbon dh bars... okay then, I like the Clementz bars but I haven't ridden with bars less than 780mm on my enduro bike or dh bike in ages and I'm not exactly looking to go back to the smaller bars
  • 1 0
So you mean i dont have to be in the top 4% this time...
  • 1 0
do i have to be pro to buy these bars too?
  • 2 0
 clementz bars are cool
  • 1 0
Wish they'd gotten rid of those humps where the bars kink.
  • 1 3
So these will be available to more than just the top 1%?
