Early in 2013 when I escaped the cold German winter, I met with Hans Rey for coffee and some rides in Laguna Beach, California where we came up with our plans to visit a little known island group above the Arctic Circle in Norway. The Lofoten Islands are well known to fishermen and hikers, but are also a secret destination for off-piste skiing. Hans and myself were intrigued to sample the technical and steep hiking trails and explore this Northern country and its biking scene - should there even be one. After seeing some breathtaking images on the internet, we were sold on the idea and destination - we made plans in-between our busy summer season, enduro races and bike events and met there in August of last year.

Riding on the Lofoten islands is not just steep and technical. Around the Leknes area in the middle of the Island are some local flow trails and manbuild DH Tracks.

This place was pure, untouched and very special indeed - the beauty of this landscape was amazing and so were the trails. We were based in the small fishing village of Reine, from there we explored the islands, its mountains, valleys, people and its history that goes way beyond the Vikings.

It's so rad that No Way Ray is still with GT after all these years. Nice to see dedication go both ways.

Anyone who can should visit Lofoten atleast once, best piece of Norway! Sun never drops in the summer so weather windows can de used at anytime. If climbing, fishing or surfing is of interest there is lots of that too, although best waves happen in the winter so surfing is a local winter sport of sorts...

A 29" Durolux? Or is Tobias not riding a 29" TF01? Something is hiding in plain sight.

If Hans Rey says something is unrideable... its unrideable!
  • 4 1
Whenever someone on a ride stops to determine if a feature is 'rideable', I usually say "Danny Macaskill rode across a chain and an iron fence…it's all rideable, maybe just not by you."

"I came here to take the R out of Norway, that's exactly what we did."

So how much do I have to pay to get the person who filmed this to do a video for me? Probably cost me an arm and both legs. haha
  • 2 0
At least the cost of the plane ticket.... so theres about 800 out the gate. Then room and food for everyday it takes. Then the actual video production charges. Maybe you could get a 2min clip for 5 grand or 7 grand? I have no clue but If you paid the dude 5000 up front you could get two or three days of filming and a 2 or 3 min video

haha well I'd rather do it on my own then and spend that loot on a new bike Smile

Incredible cinematography, perfectly framed shots. Is this where that one POD from last year came from that made it to the finals?

You down with OTB?
