Best way to get a job at a LBS for a student is work experience at a small independent shop, the big bike chains simply wont take you. I went to Fulford Cycles ( i had only ever been in once before to get a wheel built up) and after a few days they asked me if i wanted to come in on saturdays. Ive been going ever since for almost 2 years now and go in on almost every free day i get. Dont forget you must know what you're doing, they get a lot of people who don't know what they're doing and believe it or not, people who don't know how to change a tube so you being there is just wasting their time and money, if you can go and sort bikes out then you're making them money and they will want you, even if its not straight away. If they don't take you, become friends with them, the more friendly you are and the more you go in the better your chances.

For anyone looking at this bike, saw it in fulford cycles getting picked up today, its in ace condition, not like half of the rubbish on here. The chain, cassette and mech are actually brand new as well :) good luck on the sale dude :) Need to get an orange though ;)

stick with 36s, would look stupid and weigh a ton with 40s, my opinion anyway :) looks decent as it is :)

Pinkbike Poll: The Local Bike Shop
i wont in a family run bike shop and what many people dont understand is that if you go into a bike shop they will 99% of the time knock you some money off if you ask and once you become a regular and a known face they will automatically knock you some extra money off as a mates rate and if you come out riding with us and damage a component we have the knowledge to get you home and then do you a deal when you come in to fix it. You all complain that they put to much mark up on products but if you actually look at it, when crc have a sale on stuff they are often selling it at cheaper than trade just to get rid of it which a lbs obviously cannot compete with. But it makes me laugh when people say they can buy something like a chain for £5 cheaper online, wait a few days for it to come, and then come into the shop and pay more than that to have it it fitted when we would have done it for free on the spot if we had time when purchased... If any of you guys would care to give us a follow as i recently convinced them to join pb http://www.pinkbike.com/u/fulford-cycles/ . We recently had an orange 5, almost brand new up for £1500, knocked £100 off the price and gave it a full £70 service on it with a 3 month free service, something you dont get online.

The reason hope outsourced bars was because they didn't have space in their factory, think of how may hubs you can fit into the same space as a few bars. The bars were also released late as when the first batch came in they literally turned round and sent them back saying 'do it again, they're not good enough'. It also on average costs 3X more to produce something in the uk that taiwan etc... so hope may seem expensive but their profit margins are smaller. But whats wrong with stuff from overseas? Probably most peoples bikes are using parts that have come from there, I dont see people moaning at the likes of specialised producing everything from there?
