I have Hope E4's with stainless lines and 180mm Hope floating rotors. Single best bike upgrade I've ever made -
the E4s feel great, look great, and are dead simple to maintain. Just do it already!
My old SLX brakes were good, but these are much better IMO.
@joalst: Get the Hope Tech 3 X2 for the rear. It has the 2 piston caliper. I run the E4 on the front and X2 on the rear on 2 bikes, zero issues with big rotors. I always use more front brake, but even dragging the brakes on steep descents, I can modulate and/or skid at will. And, you can get them in purple.
@PJD1: Only bad thing is that they use that DOT shit. I do my own mechanic work and I'm a mess lol, so already see myself spilling that toxic shit everywhere.
@oldschool43: Ahh good point...I've never been a fan of using two different brakes though. I actually use quite a bit of rear brake for the steep trails around my area and im about 190lbs so it would need to be pretty strong. I just want the purrplleee lol they would also have to be worth upgrading from guide RSC's
@joalst: I upgraded from guides RS which I liked, but there's absolutely no comparison, it's not the same ballpark, not even in the same league, not even the same sport. You'll be glad and happy. so much power and a lever that's as smooth as butter...
@joalst: It's the same master cylinder, just a different caliper. I'm well over 215lbs and have zero issues. If you're running a 180mm rotor, unless you're dragging them at 40+, no issues. I do 35mph manuals and can play with the back brake. Even slowing to a stop from that fast in a manual on the brake with a 160mm floating rotor, no issues. You know they make matching purple rotors and hubs, right? That would be very purple... I'm very orange... Anyway, as long as you take the time to bed the pads and rotors, it would very hard to find fault in them. I have 4 sets of Tech's on 4 bikes, zero issues with any model in 6 years.
@oldschool43: Running Tech 3 V4s on the dh bike (203/203) and Tech 3 V4/E4 combo on the hightower (203/180). Power for days!!! @pedrosalas7: Unaware of shipping costs as I'm from Scotland. Sorry..
@FLATLlNE: it depends on where you buy them. I bought a set of tech3E4s, 203 rotor, 183 rotor, hope adapters for $364.75 shipped to my door from merlincycles.com
@pedrosalas7: usd or cad? I'm quoting cad. So your quoted price would be 485 cad. 50/50 chance a Canadian will be taxed on that also - we have way lower customs/duty threshold.
@oldschool43: Thanks for all the info, man. I'm running 180 in the rear and 203 in the front. I wonder if the rear will feel a little less powerful than the RSC's...I bet if it is, it won't be by much.
Yeah, I know they have purple hubs and rotors too. I have purple Profile hubs right now so I'm going the purple route haha
I have a couple of different models of the Blackspire pedals and I've been pretty happy with them. If you bend, shear or wear out a pin it's easy to remove and replace or switch, lots of good colors and hold up well to hard riding.
Cant fault them either. Have a few sets of the Sub4's which have copped plenty of abuse and have only ever had to replace the bearings in them (think $10 for 20 sealed bearings) and regreased it all afterwards. Very aggressive pins that the shoes stick to which is nice.
I saw the same thing. If you switch to "USA" then you see it for $69 USD.
Seems like CRC is selling them a lot less to U.S. residents than CAD residents. You will see $69 USD if you select "United States" location. CRC is ripping Canadian's off. Get this shipped to the U.S. instead to save a tonne of money.
One thing, it sure makes me not want to manufacture products when that sweet Camelbak is $58.99. $58.99? Here's your balloon with sticks glued to it, and a mouth drawn on it.
@kazomado: Is MEC and REI affiliated in some way? MEC's website is exactly the same as REI - all the same form factors. Not being Canadian all this is new to me...
@CarlMega: Nope they are completely different companies. Both offer the same concept with the major difference being that MEC offers a selection of MEC branded products that are high quality and low price. That being said over the past few years they've been trending more towards selling regular brands etc. MEC is headquartered in Vancouver BC and is member owned.
@canadaka Sorry to hear you are having issues! I process most of the online orders through Dunbar. We have been having some issues with people selecting their shipping address if they are within BC, but I haven't yet heard of the site not loading at all. We are currently working on launching a whole new site which will be much much better than the current site, and hopefully have less issues. Shoot me an email at sales@dunbarcycles.com and we can work something out for you.

Yeah. Zee's will cost about $200 less for the set. Maybe more if you also buy the hope adapters.
