3 Initiatives at Sea Otter Pushing for a More Inclusive Bike Industry
@ruckuswithani: Not on purpose. I was really hoping to communicate that I feel *lucky* to be able to participate. And that the greater problems of poverty and injustice are overwhelming. How many people in the world can't afford a basic bicycle for transportation? The answer throws a wrench in our pretense of being a big happy global club that accepts everyone. @suspended-flesh: Why should I proselytize for my hobby? People can find joy in any number of different ways...

All this stuff is wonderful, AND: cost and difficulty will always prevent a massive portion of the global population from participating. Sincerly hoping not to minimize the fact that bro culture is genuinely a barrier, -- A dude who was born at exactly the right time and place to get into MTB organically.

First Look: Deity Releases New Stems, Grips, & Pedals
Vital's PTA measurement has the Dagga at 112mm and Tmac at 115mm. So in theory the Tmac already has a hair more useable q-factor. The Dagga has a bigger platform, but its additional width is on the inner edge. It looks like the only pedals they've tested with significantly greater PTA are the Wah Wah 2 (119mm) and Tag Metals T1 (120mm). I also found the Vaults to feel less stable as compared to larger pedals. I'm not sure if it's because of the shape, size, forward offset, or all of the above.

Dario's Final Sea Otter Randoms
My local shop just bought a bedding machine. It's a really nice touch and a good way to differentiate. I hope they can get the message out and see a return on that investment.

Dario's Final Sea Otter Randoms
@RossDiesel: yeah, my experience with those pads was a pretty quick bedding process. I only run 203 x 2.0 rotors, but full power was available almost right away.

Supervillain feels like a missed opportunity to go bigger. The 42mm stem, I might have to pick one up. I've run 50 and 35mm stems and wished for something in between. Offset matching is silly. There's no magic to it because you still have to add bar sweep and roll to the equation of where your hands will end up.

Randoms Round 2: New Tools, Goggles, Grips, Racks, & More - Sea Otter 2024
@DonaldTee: it may appeal more if you think of it as a wrench with parallel clamping action, instead of pliers. It does not round off or damage fasteners. While we North Americans are suckers for convenience, the Knipex is a German design. I definitely use it to replace other tools I don't own, like a flare nut wrench or a chamferless socket for fork top caps. It will not always be as fast as the correct tool, but it saves me buying things I won't use often.
