Take a ride with Graeme Pitts down the 2013 Gravity Nationals DH Course at Angel Fire Bike Park in Angel Fire, New Mexico. The course is a combination of Chillin, Fo Sho (new), Supreme DH and World Cup. Running 2.45 miles long and descending 1,937 feet, this race course is sure to challenge even the best of riders.
What commentary are you talking about? The "braaap", "woooo", or the "ride" on boys"? The riding was fast because most of the terrain was flat. Plus, I am sure this is not his first time he is riding this course.
actually... the terrain is much steeper then it looks, so he is fast. Plus that was his 5 run of the day. This coarse is good, and there is a reason Aaron Gwin and Mitch Ropelato is showing up.
Flat? Come to Indiana, I'll show you flat. You'd be begging for a trail anything remotely close to this one. I'd give my left nut to have one single trail like that within 2 hours of me. I'd ride it every chance I got.
E-ce kic have you seen anything of angel fire? you sir must be an idoit, Angelfire is probably the one of the gnarliest bike parks in america (admittedly they seem to throw you down one of the more mellow runs). But i can assure you that is not Flat. The top sections where the trail turns straight down are the black trails for the ski area :/ so yeah.
At "angry-sasquatch": An "idoit"? It's truly a shame that you obviously have not even understood my comment to begin with. I am not even going to bother commenting on your "idiotic" grammar. Yes, what I've seen was shown in this video; and I am sure that's not there is to a mountain However, I specifically said "most", NOT "all". If you graduated from public school, you should at least know the difference between the two.
At "hetfiel1": Why do I need to come to Indiana if I live in the east coast with over 5k ft above sea lvl of just pure rock!
Again, my comment specifically dealt with the "commentary of the track". Learn to understand what you read!
So you want to make fun of a guy who is clearly having fun by making noises while shredding? You sound like a stellar dude to hang out with. Oh and nice spot by the way im obviously spell checking everything because my comments on pinkbike are going to be read and graded by an English professor. :/
Hey bossman im not trying to be a dick here but i just wanted to show you some of the terrain and anglefire just to show some of the gnar
It's not annoying when he's naming sections of existing trails and clarifying their change of appearance. I wish more course previews were like this.
Also, that upper section is SUPER steep. Video doesn't do it justice.
It seemed like he said "world cup" on only the boring or at least more tame looking parts of the trail. I know the video doesn't do it justice but I expected more rock gardens and less pedaling from what I've heard about Angel Fire. I would mute it to watch it again but I won't be critical of him having fun, I'm trying not to be cynical.
@E-cekic: You should know that vids like this one never accurately portray how steep things are. Not a one.
@Protour: It's strange how some of these tracks look tame at first. The first vid I saw of Andora 2 to 3 weeks back made it seem kind of mellow as well. Even Hafjel last year seemed easy at first glance. But once we started seeing more official previews and vid of the track that wasn't first person, the truth was revealed.
I think this Angel Fire course is epic! And if I wasn't heading to Whistler for the Garbanzo, I'd hang out there.
The upper half of World Cup is very rocky, but not as steep and Surpreme and Chillin', which are shown at the start. It looks like they might have tamed the lower parts just a bit for this race since the sections further up are so rough.
Was the drop-in for Supreme rebuilt for this season? It looks different than from what I remember from last year. I'm hoping to revisit for some late season shredding before the park closes. I hope it works out. Angel Fire Bike Park is my heaven on Earth.
"sure to challenge even the best of riders." Um, Seriously!? I think there was 1, maybe 2 technical sections, and only 1 floater at best... Can't beleive this is the course for the '13 Nationals. Access roads, groomers, and a couple rock gardens, oh my!
I did love the commentary though...and I'm all about the moto sound effects!!!
I thought I had seen you before Graeme! your rebound nob on your fork poped off in the middle of boondocks. so pinned keep up the great work with the sound effects
AF rock gardens (especially the one that you bomb into after the bridge on WC) are no joke. At race pace they would chew up and spit out a 29er Enduro.
Maybe he is off by 2,500 miles and thinks New Mexico is on the east coast. Or maybe he thinks the southern accent is an east coast thing even though it stretches across to Texas. Not sure how any of it ties in to Washington state and why he'd feel the need to put down about half of his own country.
From a greatest DH Courses article on Vital MTB: "Mount Snow, Vermont is the undisputed king of fast and rough in the downhill mountain bike world. Known for its big granite slabs, wide open grass corners and the infamous yardsale, the downhill courses of Mount Snow will remain forever-etched in the memories of those who raced them."
Also in your backyard were some of the earliest snowboard national events. Vermont also had the first chairlift in the county. So if this guy likes biking, snowsports, and chairlifts - he may need to learn his own roots.
Mount Snow is and will be one of those courses you ride and never forget. Not sure witch was worse, dry and high speed or rain and mud just trying to hold on for life going down the granite faces and into mud and roots and then to servive that and take on the yardsale. Man that was fun, I miss that place.
