by Angel Fire Bike Park
Angel Fire Bike Park, the largest Bike Park in the Rockies, which will open with over 60 miles of trails on May 19, is announcing a new racing series. Awarded number one Bike Park in the Southwest by MTBParks.com for the third consecutive season, Angel Fire Bike Park’s "Fire 5", presented by Schwalbe, is a premier downhill race series in the Rocky Mountains. A series of five unique downhill races will take place at Angel Fire Bike Park throughout the bike season. Amateurs and pro riders are invited to race for one or all five races. Registration for the first race, which will be held May 29, is open now.

Angel Fire Bike Park 2016

“We created the new Fire 5 racing series here at Angel Fire Bike Park because we wanted to offer racers a better experience with a legit series. Since the Mountain States cup dissolved a few years ago, we feel that downhill racing in the Rockies has been underserved and underrepresented. Angel Fire has always had a rich racing culture with proper tracks. We believe that by offering some cash, amazing products from our sponsors and a 5 race series, that we can grow racing back to where it once was,” explains Hogan Koesis, bike park director, Angel Fire Bike Park.

Race Dates:

Sunday, May 29
Saturday, July 16
Saturday, August 13
Sunday, September 4
Saturday, October 8

Classes:

Men Pro
Women Pro
Men Open
Women Open
Junior Men
Junior Women

Over $20,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded for each race and overall series winners. Competitors 21 and over will receive two beer tickets per race sponsored by Shock Top and Goose Island IPA. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in all categories. Series Champion will be determined by most points earned in 4 out of 5 races in the series. The rider must be present to be eligible for awards. No awards will be mailed. Bike Park Lift Ticket is not included in the cost of registration.

To register for any of the Fire 5 Races go to BikeReg.com. For more information about the Fire 5 Racing series visit the website.

THE 2016 SEASON

Although we had a killer El Nino start to winter here at Angel Fire Resort, the snowmelt came a bit earlier than we wanted so now we’re focusing on what really gets us stoked – working on our Bike Park to get it ready to open for the 2016 season. With Opening Day slated for May 19th, we thought it was the ideal time for an Angel Fire Bike Park update.

Angel Fire Bike Park 2016

The last few summers we’ve been dedicated to expanding the park and really trying to get the trails spread out. This focus has helped us create the largest in-bounds bike park experience in the Rocky Mountains. However, this shoulder season, we are beyond excited as we purchased our first sawmill. We’ve already started planning how and where we are going to use it and we promise, many more wood features are coming to your favorite trails throughout the park. Our Trail Crew has also been unleashed with some new excavator attachments that were recently acquired. This season will be a landmark statement in our bike park. For the first time, every trail crew member will have their own excavator. So, we feel confident in stating that this bike season in Angel Fire will be unmatched in the Rockies. Along with our ability to improve our current trails, the crews are also able to build up our trails and carve out new drainage canals to help us keep our dirt packed and less muddy during the pending monsoon season. The Trail Crew is hard at work to help us all feel like heroes in the park this summer!

Angel Fire Bike Park 2016

We also have some exciting racing and event news this season. First up is our brand new Fire Five DH Race Series (Series of 5 different races). The first of the series is (May 28-29). We created this race to meet the demands of the underserved gravity racers in the Rockies. We are going to be doing real DH races on real tracks with an amazing 20k to back it up. Memorial Day weekend we’ll also be hosting the first ever Demo Daze. Come check out the bike you may be thinking about from brands like YT, Devinci, Scott, GT and more! Great weekend to come up – check out new gear from amazing industry partners and take part in some high-adrenaline DH racing. Also, we’re hosting for the first time the Scott Enduro Cup (June 11-12). We know that the mountain will be packed with great talent that weekend. Additionally, we are thrilled to announce that we’re hosting the 28th Annual PRO GRT 'Chile Challenge' this summer (June 23-26) – it’s the only DH National and UCI sanctioned Level race in the Rockies. New this year – it will combine Pro GRT, Pro XCT and New Mexico State DH-STXC MTB Championships.

Angel Fire Bike Park 2016

To make sure you have no excuse not to check out the rider’s top choice bike park in the Southwest this summer, Angel Fire Bike Park invites all season pass holders from any bike park in the world to receive 50% off a standard day ticket. This offer is valid for the 2016 mountain bike season, May 19 to October 16, 2016. Riders just need to present a valid 2016 season bike park pass from anywhere in the world. Oh and if you haven’t picked up your Angel Fire Bike Park Season Pass yet (The Gravity Pass) get on it now.

See you this season!

Dear Colorado, Please take note our neighbors to the south have it all figured out on how a real bike park is supposed to RIDE, not this polished beginner crap we have to put up at some places. I want gnar and more gnar with some speed mixed in. yours truly DH riders

 Infinite up-votes!
  • 13 3
Yea!!! Stupid winter park green runs!
  • 11 1
Have you ridden Keystone? Crested Butte? WP is the only place where almost every run is a paved road. You have to sprinkle some greens in there to keep the tourists happy.
  • 7 1
Ummm, Sol Vista is pretty f*ckin sweet? But yeah Angel Fire is the shit.
  • 3 1
*Sol Vista is pretty f*ckin sweet.
  • 3 1
@cebartsch81: Sol Vista is da bomb fo shizzle. Needs DH series!
  • 3 1
Have you ever heard of Keystone?...
  • 2 0
Angel fire is pretty loamy on a lot of their trails...
  • 3 2
i agree with ya dude with ONE EXCEPTION.... KEYSTONE... keystone is BY FAR the best in CO. winter park to me is f*cking LAME.(.EXCEPT for their pro line..) and granby is really cool too, just on a smaller scale.... but angel fire is f*cking AMAZING...
  • 4 1
@metalmike68: I'm calling bullshit here. If you can't enjoy Space Ape or the bigger sections of Boulevard or Rainmaker you must be too good of a rider.
  • 2 1
@dangahoesing: my thoughts exactly. People are always ripping on WP, and believe me i wish there was more gnar, but you gotta appreciate whats there and shred it for what it is
  • 1 0
@thehunterlinder: Sol Vista is better. The trails are faster and the jumps are bigger and have more flow. Cougar, Bucnasty, Silky Johnson, and Stranger; yeah the runs aren't as long but you can do more laps.
  • 1 0
@spleen123: GREEN RUNS??? WOW... lmfao.. definitely designed by pot heads!
  • 1 0
@ehvahn: DAFUQ?? Then you don't know how to ride. You must be a transition from a roadie riding the baby trails.

Everybody on trail crew gets an excavator! You get an excavator! And you get an excavator!

Hogan is the Oprah of bike park directors.
  • 1 0
 everybody gets a hen
  • 17 0
I'm glad Hogan is returning this season. The trail crew did a great job maintaining last year, but I'll be excited to see the new build work with even more excavators and a sawmill!
  • 1 0
Yeah it was very wet after those big storms, but they hustled and kept it open. Good trail crew.
  • 18 1
Dear Vail, please give a shit about Northstar. Thank you, Ryan
  • 8 1
 Dear Vail,
While you're at it please give a shit about Canyons/Park City.
Thank you
  • 15 2
How about they give a shit about Vail first.
  • 3 1
^this guy nailed it. Of all their resorts Vail by far has the most potential. Good luck though, I doubt they'll even have an ex this year.
  • 2 1
 @rarrity.... they don't....sadly.
  • 3 1
@Knife-in-the-dark: Never been to vail, but Nstar could be pretty awesome. They only run the lower half of the upper Mtn, and the lower mtn is seriously lacking in trails.
  • 2 0
@Knife-in-the-dark: I seriously think that Vail will never build up their DH park b/c they don't want the unsavory individuals in their beautiful city.
  • 1 0
Vail doesn't give a shit about anyone cept the corporate turds renting out their conference rooms.
  • 10 0
Is Angel Fire really the biggest bike park in the rockies? No idea they had that many trails. I need to take a trip down there
  • 7 0
Even if it isn't the biggest, the trails are badass! Definitely worth a trip.
  • 5 0
They have enough trails there to last you all day long. Huge variety. Rough, smooth, big, fast and long. It's one of those places that can be very addictive.
  • 3 0
yeah dude, super rad place. lots of variety on trails. also pajarito is pretty awesome. all built by volunteer, so no huge jump lines and super smooth trails, but tickets are half the price and its a good time.
  • 1 0
@Tomahawk990: Addictive is an understatement.. Once you plan a trip its like the part in the movie percy jacksons lightning thief at the lotus club. Lost for days!
  • 8 0
Who said dh dead. Dh for life. Yay!!! Stop talking crap haters.
  • 3 0
I'll be there for two weeks over the July 4th weekend. It is a blast. Huge fun factor. No crowds, everybody is grooving and having a good time. No big nightlife spot, and everyone gets up early to get on the mountain. There are only a few beginner riders each day so you don't have problems on the trail with traffic jams. The top of the mountain is at 10,600 ft. It takes me two days to get used to altitude, but I'm older and live on the coast. Fun muddy, fun dry. If it rains in the evening, each following morning the dirt is tacky and fast.

two words... Lucky ass....whilst all of us workaholics are here busting our ass youre over here riding for TWO WEEKS!!!
  • 4 0
Wow, love to see something like this out of a US bike park. Dh is dead my ass, keep it up Angelfire!
  • 4 1
I love racing Angel Fire. I wish it wasn't 7 hrs drive away tho. Road trip!
  • 8 0
Worth it! Driving past Keystone, Winter Park, Vail, etc. etc. to get there is worth it as well! haha.
  • 3 0
Opening Day date a misprint? May 19? Not May 12?
  • 3 0
No, they open on the 12th.
  • 1 0
@meesterover: their website says May 19th.... you sure?
  • 11 0
Due to some recent snow and cold nights, we've decided to push our opening back until May 19th. We want to provide a good experience and if we opened on the 12th, we'd only have a few trails open with a lot of mud. Allowing another week for our trail crew to get busy and the sun to dry us out, should allow us to have most of the mountain open by the 19th.
  • 3 0
@mchenrya Ah dammit, we specifically set our trip for the weekend after opening weekend, but now we will be there on opening weekend.
  • 4 1
@AngelFireBikePark: While I understand the reasons for moving the opening date, please note that it's not without some pain to your addicted customers. My opening day reservation at the Lodge was made in early March. Your staff is not fully aware of the date change as you announced it via PinkBike this morning and have only slowly started rolling it across your own website--with many pages still inaccurate. (I delivered your message for you to one lodge rep.) I had other visits and dates lined up at other resorts that I'm scrambling to reschedule now. While you're my favorite even with this change, I was happy last 5/11 in the mud/snow and on really just World Cup and was looking forward to the same fun. Plus you've raised rates too? Again, I've missed you the last long 7-8 mos. but you're killing me here.

@AngelFireBikePark Perhaps you could answer my question here that I have sent several times via email. We are heading there before the Trestle season opens. Can I use my receipt from the online Trestle season pass purchase and my driver license to receive the 50% discount?
  • 4 0
@mixticius: we agree...the way this date change was rolled out was not ideal, we're sorry about that. We hope you can forgive us. I talked to the trail crew this morning and ziggy is waist deep in snow but they're shoveling like crazy to clear it by the 19th. Again, sorry for the inconvenience but the weather has been very snowy up here in April and we want to open with more than a few trails.
  • 3 0
@meesterover: Yes, an online receipt and photo ID work for the 50% discount!
  • 1 0
 @mixticius: AGREEED!!!!
  • 4 0
 Yeeeewwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!

How far is Anglefire from the nearest airport?
  • 3 0
 Angelfire. Not Anglefire.
  • 2 0
 Probably Albequerque
  • 2 0
 Definitely Algequerque
  • 2 0
about 3 hours from Albuquerque Airport.
  • 1 0
If you can get into Santa Fe, rent a car and go north on 25 to Las Vegas, NM. Then take 518 north to Mora, NM. Make a right on 434 and continue north to Angel Fire. It is about 1 hour from Santa Fe and this drive is pretty fun.
  • 1 0
Santa Fe, but major air port. albq. Do you have a teleporter?
  • 7 0
Albuquerque is the closest and largest airport, next is Santa Fe or Colorado Springs, but they only have a limited number of regional flights. Or, be a baller, rent a jet, and fly right into Angel Fire's airpot, AXX!
  • 1 0
@AngelFireBikePark: haha yeah I was gonna say you guys have that small one right there, but I've never seen anyone fly there or how crazy that would cost.
  • 1 0
Dude just go to highland! Its a great park!
  • 1 0
What about mammoth, winter park and north star?
  • 2 1
