America... just a nation of two hundred million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns and no qualms about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable. -- Hunter S Thompson

he didn't plummet 200 feet to his death so I'd say he landed it.

yes ridesmoothbro. I went to an all boys catholic school and studied old and new testament exclusively. Also served in the Army for a few years and was at West Point for a little stint. But I remembered hearing someone say after a plane crash that god saved the few survivors of the crash for a reason, that they had a purpose - and i started thinking "doesn't that mean he crashed that plane for a purpose? all those other people suffered a painful death and that was part of god's plan too? So then is it God's plan to starve all those kids in Africa just so the western countries can have more food? There's a purpose for slavery and genocide and they're all praying just as hard as us Americans but aren't getting a sliver of the blessings we 'receive' " It just seemed cruel to me to give a purpose to other people's suffering and my faith started to deteriorate. it doesnt make sense to me to believe in a god that dabbles in people's lives.

I know I won't be able to get through to you and neither will you to me. I'm just trying to help you see outside the box, because most of the world is so zealously and rigidly faithful that it really does cause friction. I've always imagined a world without religion being much more peaceful - no muslims blowing themselves up for 72 virgins, no westboro baptist church, no bombs at abortion clinics, no ridiculous genocidal leaders, nobody refusing to give their kids necessary medicines and vaccines because they think god is watching over them, no homosexual teens that feel the need to kill themselves because they live in a brainwashed society that refuses to accept them. That's why I don't choose to associate myself with it. If it gives you a sense of comfort, great - stay faithful, you are more than entitled to under the 1st amendment. But please make sure it's a faith that preaches love and actual inclusion, because for the most part it cultivates the opposite.

chicken vs egg argument, except that humans came first and created religion second -all in an attempt to control their fellow man by incentivizing them with a made up notion of heaven and hell. Opiate of the masses. People are free to believe what they want. 1.09 billion people believe that some cosmic Jewish zombie can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree... makes perfect sense. obviously i could be wrong, but I could be just as wrong by saying Unicorns or spiderman or the tooth fairy doesnt exist either

then you're missing out on Garrett Reynolds and Ty Morrow and all these amazing street riders of today. That same logic would be like not listening to Kurt Cobain or Jimi Hendrix exclusively because I don't want to advocate heroin use. You don't have to agree with their life choices to appreciate their talent.

true if it works for him then that's great. the only issue i've had with organized religion is that it hinders societal growth and it inherently divides and segregates people - whether or not the believer is aware of it. I want to know if Christian Hosoi would be as die-hard Christian had he been raised in Pakistan or India; our religious beliefs for the most part are dictated by our parents' beliefs and the traditions of the cultures we grow up in "Religion - providing thousands of years of hope in a world torn apart by religion"
