Dave rides his new Specialized UK Enduro Expert in the heart of South Wales as he prepares for this years season including the UK Gravity Enduro and Megavalanche out on France!


How did you get into racing MTB?
“I competed in motorcycle trials from a young age, but as I got older I started to do more and more MTB racing. I started out racing allot of downhill, racing all over the UK in various series including the NPS (now BDS). In recent years I’ve found riding my trail bike far more enjoyable, so this new ‘enduro’ format gave me the buzz to go racing again. It’s exciting to be racing in a discipline which is still evolving!”

What series will you be racing this season?
“I’ll be racing a full season of UK Gravity Enduro, Welsh Gravity Enduro, and Mini Gravity Enduro. I will also be heading out to Alpe D’huez to race the Mega Avalanche this summer, which I’m really looking forward to!”


Open face or full face helmet?
“Well I guess this depends on the event. Some enduro races will be compulsory full face, and some won’t. It would also depend on how gnarly the course is. I’ll definitely be using a full face lid for the mega!”

What are your goals for this season?
“This will be my first season racing enduro, so it’s a bit of an unknown for me, and there are allot of fast guys racing this discipline now. I’d like to think if I put in the work I can get some solid results though, I’d like to get on the podium this season for sure.”


South Wales seems to be producing allot of quality mountain bike racers, why is this?
“We have some of the best riding in the UK on our doorstep. Riders like Mike Jones (CRC Team), and Leigh Johnson (Marin Enduro Team) have the perfect training grounds locally, and great groups of riders to practise with every day. Combine that with the hard work of guys like Des Betts building the most technically challenging trails you can imagine and you’ve got a recipe for developing the best MTB racers!”
