I forgot to say, congratulations to the winner, as its still a very well executed design! I personally voted for Shredner's design as I felt it would have really stood out, especially if it had been painted in fluorescent colours.

NickyVanLier's design won the pinkbike votes by around 300 votes, My question is why they went with the one that ended up second. Props to the winner but, the winner in my eyes is still NickyVanLier's. If he doesnt mind I might try and find a place where I could get that design custom painted for a helmet of my own .

@Donodh thanks for the kind words. If you have some race footage with wild commentary I'd be happy to put a custom helmet together for you

I think I'm going to request a black Full 9 from Bell and send it off to a local print/decal company, they specialising in bike-related work and I think they will be able to bring my design to reality.

@Donodh they went with the design that came 8th!!!!!! not even 2nd in the public vote. I voted for @NickyVanLier just for the commentary as it was a "fresh" idea that looked great. All the designs looked good but some better than others. I hope the final say came down Danny himself as he's the one wearing it.

Where's the beef? About the only similarity is the gryphon/lion. One color is the same and it's used differently. This is a bit like saying all helmets with the British flag are the same (i.e. most of the other entrees). In my opinion, jonnywellman did it better than TLD anyway.

That's what I said and got 17 negreps. The gryphon is literally the only similarity. If everyone thinks it looks like Peaty's helmet then why did the majority vote on it?

The animal depicted in the winning entry is actually what is known in heraldic terms as a 'lion rampant'. It's origins in England date back to the Plantagent's dynasty (and before that, Northern France where the English kings originally hailed from) around the early 12th Century. The lion is a symbol of valour, strength, bravery, and royalty.

The only similarity to Steve's helmets is the positioning of the lion. Other than that they're completely different and in my opinion this design is better in every way.

All these other folks sound funny... what was the point of voting. Simple. To get the final choices. The winners of the voting got free helmets so I'm not sure what the beef is?

I'm actually surprised that Nick's helmet won the voting. I personally don't think it's all that great. It's basically exposed carbon with some foil on it and some copy. I don't like it at all.

@Dobbs59 the point wasn't about being conservative in the design, it was about being original and not following suit with the cliché Union Jacks and English symbols/landmarks.

Even so, the design was conservative. It's mainly two tone dark blue and black with a large sponsor logo.
I'm certainly not saying it's a bad design, but Danny (and most DH racers) want loud, vibrant designs.

There are benefits and downsides to each situation. For instance, if you keep it in the cabinet you have to get the chick all the way back to your place in order to impress her enough to seal the deal. If you wear it while riding, boom. Congrats ... yes it's very well executed and all the shapes work together on consensual "troyleearized" spectrum of lines and shapes... lacks some originality and in my point of view "i' ve seen a Steve Peat helmet like this" is always on my mind, but that is not a bad thing is it? Oh, I see. Public votes for the top 5 and Danny chooses the winner. I get it now - Danny liked Johnny's design the best to begin with, so he made sure 5 of them were nominated (along with some long shots) thus making it more probable that at least one was chosen for the final. I guess it was nice to at least get other people's hopes up.
