After 30 hours of editing I am finally done my masterpiece! The Slopestyle event at Crankworks in Whistler! I am so excited about this video and am glad to finally finish it to show everyone.
I actually liked it....and even if I didnt I wouldnt be a dick about it...Sweet editing good job! Only thing I would have liked better cuz I'm picky would have been to have each rider in order, 6th place then jump to 3rd then back to 5th wasnt really working/flowing. But great work non the less!
If I don't like a song in a video, I just mute the video and put on something I do like, rather than telling everyone I thought it was a terrible song. I didn't turn this song off, because it actually went quite well with the video.
Sick vid but that song sucks ! Probably after those 30 hours of editing you got tired and just put the first song you found !lol .. Love the pic of Zink with Jackson ! haha .. VOD VOD VOD
Not to knock on anyone's hard work because it's edited well and you can tell alot of effort was put into it, but that song doesn't go AT ALL. It doesn't convey anything even slightly relevant to biking. I honestly just can't imagine how it seemed like a good idea to the creator of the vid. I know it's different with biking vids (culturally), but tutorials for editing highlights of every other sport out there always say it's usually a bad idea to use music with lyrics unless the lyrics are relating specifically to the highlight. I think we just witnessed proof of that.
^^^^^^ @Archi, I'd say that the NWD series, The Kranked series, Follow me, Any TGR film, Poor Boys Productions, Matchstick productions, and pretty much any other major action sports film ever made would beg to differ.
The song fitted with the style of the video super well! It''s not all about heavy metal and shit for making riding 'extreme'. It fits the video work just fine.
First off I read to comments before I watched it......People will alway's have they say no matter what which is great it's what this world is all about free speech...After 15 year's of watching action sports it's definitely the best comp edit I've seen ....I know how hard it is to film a comp and if you did it on your own it's even more outstanding .....As for the song why not ??If you wanted it on there and you think it work's go for it !
I actually think's it goes really well to the footage .
Great work Jordan, keep it up and great thing's will come your way !
I gotta agree....with everyone. Only one that likes the song seems to be the editor. Sorry bud but it definitely brought it down for me. Didnt ruin it completely (once muted) but then I also agree with another comment where I kinda think riders should have gone in order, at least the top three. I get your point with the chorus thing but would have flowed better otherwise. Creative thinking yes, but doesnt really come off that way. I didnt even notice it was during the chorus until you mentioned it
I think everyone would agree we'd love to see the vid again with another track. Youve got sick footage and then you go and use Gaga?
Great vid and editing! Like any memorable clip of film the soundtrack is key. A masterpiece deserves/demands a solid ageless song. Not disposable phlegm like this and many others of her vein are spewing forth lately.
Really nice vid, stands out from most by having well thought out shots and lovely quality to footage. And I liked the tune, all you kids slagging it just are to afraid to say you like incase your emo/mosher/whatever pals wouldn't approve - well I do!
dude...... why do you edit video and do great job and than you ruin everything with music? I must say video edit - great!! music - I wanted to remove speakers from my laptop with sharp screwdriver. I did not even finish watching it. Sorry
excellent video, wish i didnt have to leave that morning, wouldve liked to have stayed. At least you showed us what we all missed...an insane slopestyle event!! Next yar Im staying that extra day!
I agree with avery25 at 1:10 it is such a sexual/awkward moment with Casey's edit. That is a perfect example of how the lyrics of the song can interact poorly with the content. I'm sure Casey was feeling nervous not sexual. No matter how much you like the song and the beat, as a film maker you can't ignore the message of the lyrics as it's a part of the song.
Even though you had a vision for this song, another way to approach it would be to look at the content first and think about the emotions you are trying to evoke from your viewer, and then choose the music accordingly. There's tons of unique new music out there to choose from that would still allow you to show your video with style and originality.
That being said I think you have a great amount of potential! props
Although it's safe to say most dudes on here hate the song, I could see this edit being popular outside of the world of mtb. You could show this in a break on TV and the masses would be pretty googly-eyed and dig it.
for one, she's awesome and I love this song, another reason is that when I listened to it I could so easily visualize a sweet bike video with it, so I decided to create that!
i mean lady gaga is ok but it really doesn't match the song i mean u could have used its going down by young jock that would have been tight and some what close to the video but other than that the footage is tight
dood if that's what you like to listen to, that's your thing, next time please dont taint your hard work with cheeezy pop music. It made me turn the sound off.
I need that song in order to make the video the way it is, since I wanted to make a video like this and with this style, than I went ahead and used a song that I thought works great for it.
That was a pretty damn "homoish" decision to use that song for that GREAT video. Cmon lets get some good music in some of these video's. In my opinion bad representation of the sport i love. Again video it self was awesomly done no doubt..song embarassing!
hambone2..im flatered you looked me up..well call me what you will..but i am definetly not in the minority on this one..98% of the ppl bloging on this TIGHT video said the song was junk..id hardly call it "smack talkin" just sayin my opinion and havin some fun..i think your just sweet on bears??
if we allow this kind of music in bike videos kids today will think it's ok to listen to this crap. got to raise signatures for pinkbike to change this into something that rocks!
I was thinking it would be cooler to have the best riders during the chorus which is a longer length of time to show them than just during the verses and I think it works better this way, I also like to make it more interesting.
the vid was great and good edit but the song was probably the g*yest sone you could have picked...lol even , well hell any song would have been better dude!
Yeah, it would be to, still my mother would love him. Liked the video, wonder if stuff like this is supposed to be ironic, but there's as many songs out there as there are trails so makers should get searching for the good stuff or at least something that suits the video or is a bit unusual. Still it's a little late in the day and this is a great video
haha, ya I knew some people would hate it, I also knew some people would love it, I just chose a song that I think is great and would work in a slopestyle video that I think is awesome, I know some people will disagree.
it seems people can only tell me how much they hate the song, that doesn't concern me, what I want to create in my videos is something that people will be interested in seeing all the way through even if they don't like the song by itself. I understand that if you hate the song it can ruin a video, I know because there are tons of really boring songs in lots of popular videos here and I can't really sit through the whole video because its so boring.
What I am at least trying to accomplish is something that is interesting, new, and different. something that will get peoples attention and also keep their interest throughout the length of the video even if they don't like the song.
I think the TYPE of music you chose works, because you've edited the video so well and it fits perfect with the beat. I disagree with people who say just mute the sound and put something else on. Essentially editing a video goes hand in hand with the music (eg. when it shows each rider and freezes a photo of them at the perfect time) and it's satisfying to watch so muting doesnt work. Props for an awesome vid but the music is a huge factor in a riding video and if people hate the music it can make a big difference. And despite the homo lyrics I think this is the best edit of the slopestyle I've seen yet...
i appreciate all the hard work that you've done in editing this video. you have done an excellent job. so thanks. take the criticism on the music as a raw and honest reflection on a piece of work that you have produced and offered to share to others- which is what you have done- and go from there. in making art, in this case a video, once you have finished making it, its no longer yours to control- should you offer it up to be looked at- so when the critique is basically a series of compliments to your editing and advice about song choice, maybe the masses have a legit point. enjoy the compliments, work from the criticism.
but i fucking hated the song and had to mute it. made my ears puke.
otherwise fantastic.
lol, ok but this doesn't mean I'm going to start looking for music that everyone will like, this is a part of my style, but I don't know if I will use Lady Gaga again (maybe? lol), it means that the people that do like the music will love this video even more!
Boostmaster, I hate the song but I love what you say about it. Fair play for being original even if it offends a lot of people's ears. Still you must picture a few more Gaga fans on Pinkbike that perhaps I do
haha fair enough. i'm showing my age by saying that this was likely the first time i've ever even heard a song by lady gaga, and i hope its my last. i make a lot of art, and teach visual arts for a living, so forgive my colloquial use of language in my relfections on your musical choice. i always try to take what i can from the honest responses of people to the artwork i make. and you got some honest responses here.
so being aware of the audience doesn't mean i need to cater to that audience, but if i serve shit salad to a bunch of carnivores, i gotta expect that someones gonna throw a fork at me. the salad in question being lady gaga music of course. so good on ya for stickin to your guns, keep making vids, and i suppose you should include whatever music you want on it.
ya, its not like I will discard what people like to hear, it is definately an issue when choosing music, of course I want people to like the music choice.
But you see, in my experience I have found that the guys who like dirt jumping and slopestyle type of riding are the ones who are more likely to be into this kind of music, and this video has exactly that type of riding, so I felt it can work so yes I do picture more gaga fans here than you guys might which had a part in me deciding to go for it.
and you can see a number of comments of people saying they did like the song choice, even larock said he liked it in a comment further down.
but ya it is useful to hear what people think of my music choices because of course I want to make not only great edits but also good music to go with.
The fact is I will make many more films in the future, this is just one, and I was curious how it would go! I don't regret using this song, I think its worth it and its interesting what people say, it is getting so many views and comments!
..that sounds personal. Maybe she should have thought about that when she stole a Queen song for a name and started making turnip music for tripped out Britany fans!
yeah, haters gonna hate. it went well with the vid and honestly, if it was by some obscure industrial female-fronted band nobody's ever heard of, the guys on this site would be all over it like zink on a podium.
well I had almost 2 hours of footage to edit and even though I had the whole video planned out, I still had to make lots of decisions about what clips I'd use and where for some parts and because I am kind of a perfectionist
I actually think's it goes really well to the footage .
Great work Jordan, keep it up and great thing's will come your way !
I think everyone would agree we'd love to see the vid again with another track. Youve got sick footage and then you go and use Gaga?
good work though
But video is nice :-)
