Takeaway: riding a bike is more important than the bike you're riding.
  • 23 2
Agreed. That being said, nothing wrong with upgrading as long as you are always riding. I've been guilty of being unhappy with my bike because it could be better. The result was less fun/less riding and looking back, I had more fun on my shitty bikes because I was always riding. It's a sad curse to always find unhappiness in the fact that something could be nicer/lighter etc.

But I've recovered, somewhat.

That being said, I think the guy in this vid would love a slopestyle bike.

It's good for people to be happy with what they've got. At the same time let's not pretend that a different bike makes no difference. A different bike can really open whole different experiences of riding. Bike packing, dirt jumping, epic XC weekends, downhill resort vacations, New York City traffic dodging... all are awesome. There are many different bike cultures and some can only truly be experienced with the proper bike. But yeah, ride the hell out of whatever you've got.

song went like this: MY EYES ARE OPEN!!!! MY EYES ARE OPEN!!!! MY EYES ARE OPEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!!!!!!!
Sick video btw

 True true CaptainBLT.

But I didn't think it was possible to ride a bike off road without it being 650 b.s, 4" wide tyres, massively wide flat bars, full suspension and featured more carbon than the local coal mine. It's such a fun sport but the AGNI crew (all the gear no idea) make it look so expensive to try out. My first downhill bike was an 80's BMX with no breaks and mag wheels, it was crap but boy was it fun!

Sick vid and mad skills, would love to see this guy with a full bounce and two years of practice, Rampage maybe?...
  • 1 0
@CaptainBLTSo true! We all get way to caught up in gizmos and new shiny things. We think we need the newest, best ride out there. I my self have been guilty as charged, but after filming with Ty I have a new appreciation for just riding what I have and not what the Industry says I need to ride.

 26" CAN STILL BE FUN!!!

Beer

 Says no bike manufacturing company.
  • 7 1
 guerilla gravity says otherwise.
  • 9 0
 And Kona!
  • 15 0
Knolly is still on board with 26 aren't they?
  • 1 1
trek offers some fuels in a 26
  • 5 0
 26 or die!
  • 5 0
Banshee, gives you options for your wheel size and rear axle length . I ride my rune with 26. Still just as fast as my friends who have the "faster" 27.5 option.. Whoa wonder was conspiracy Keanu would say about that.
  • 24 1
That's pretty cool, riding a dirt jumper on trails.
  • 20 1
WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN FAT BIKES!!!
  • 16 0
Everybodys had a go at downhill on a jump bike at some point
  • 8 0
It would be nice to see a WC downhill in hardtail.
  • 3 1
or a rigid... or is that just me?!
  • 1 0
Yea they're as fun as anything, check out the DH hard tails these guys make: www.btr-fabrications.com www.facebook.com/BTR.Fabrications
  • 2 0
Just make sure you got good front suspension so you don't get pump arm.
  • 12 0
I've been riding for 11 years now. (mtb) I am on my second bike. It is cheaper and more fun to find a bike u love, and see how long u can keep it going with minimal upgrades, maximum UPKEEP. I just retired my 1999 schwinn homegrown for a 2009 SC Heckler. My attitude is ride what you want. Ride what you can afford. Take advice from the industry, but dont let the industry determine your style or passion. Make your own way.
  • 8 0
 I hear ya!

Just last year I retired my 2005 Heckler and moved the drivetrain over to my new 2013 Heckler. I did have to buy a new fork and build some new wheels but I'm stoked to be riding something 95% as good as some over marketed, multi-pivot carbon machine for half the price. Ride on!
  • 5 1
I've been riding since 2002 and I'm probably on my ba-jillionth bike =)
  • 2 0
I feel it. Rode my 07 Trek 3700 into the ground. Good times were had on that bike! Just upgraded to an 05 SC vp free just last year and still having just as much fun. All about the stoke man.
  • 3 0
11 years and 33 bikes here lol

To be fair i broke roughly half of them, and i ride /have ridden pretty much every single discipline: street, park, dirt, fourcross, trials, downhill, xc, track, bmx, etc. So much bikes were needed.
  • 13 0
 Rear suspension, shmear shmuspension.
  • 14 4
Rode my rode bike down the stairs on the way into school. The saddle slapped my junk pretty hard several times. Not every bike is up to every job.
  • 13 1
 Sack up!
  • 5 1
 It's a warm day here. . .
  • 3 1
 so hesh.
  • 15 1
 Dropper post that Roadie.
  • 1 0
 Hah totally!
  • 10 1
not a true mountain biker until you have a cauliflower ball bag.....
  • 3 1
Its not the bike, its your technique. Never even had that happen when i rode DH on my 24 years old rigid xc bike with my saddle up high, neither when i rode down stairs on my fixed gear bike, also with the saddle up high.
  • 1 0
Doesn't help that the bike is an xl and I need a medium. I can't reach to get my junk behind the saddle. Bike is currently for sale by the way.
  • 3 0
 That makes sence

After the first crash I thought this guy has a death wish riding that DJ. But after the vid was complete I was amazed at the skills and testicular fortitude. That road gap.....on a DJ in the snow! Awesome riding! Would be sick to see what he could do on a Fury.
  • 2 0
At several points during the filming I thought the same thing @RatHunter83 .
  • 4 0
Inspiring vid! Coming from bmx I expect to him that 26" hardtail will feel as forgiving as a big DH rig will to most regular mtb riders. He probably doesn't see what all the fuss is about! He's able to send it in the woods on a bigger and softer bike than he's used to. Result is a great vid!
  • 7 1
My local trails are smooth enough that SS and street tires work really well. Standing full time can get tiring but catching up to XC guys in full gear is priceless.
  • 7 3
I know it is a matter of preference but...how do people ride in skinny jeans?...once wore skinny jeans...After about 5 seconds of skinny jeans thought I would get severe thrombosis. They Squeezed the living shit out of my my gonads and decided to never wear that shit again. Not even thinking of riding a bike. But his riding is obviously better than mine so I might just have to try them again.
  • 4 0
Get ones with elastic in them. They're as comfy as jogging pants then Big Grin
Also don't get them skin tight hahah.
  • 7 0
i like the snow and the wife beater shirt look....and the metal music....hav'in a blast KO'ing it
  • 2 0
Ha, I thought it was only us Brits who call it a wife beater...I remember Si Paton using the term at crankworx to general bemusement from Brad Jay and the other guy (whose name escapes me).
  • 3 0
Wife beater is used in the states frequently but from my experience you have to be white, possibly white trash, and the color has to be white as well. Trifecta. By the way, I'm white.
  • 8 1
 that first crash omg....
  • 1 0
 Yeah! :/
  • 1 0
Yep. Thought it was gonna be a "days off" video... All crash, no thrash....lol
  • 1 0
I love riding some of the dh trails here on my dj bike. I always laugh when the guys tell me I should be riding something different. Coming from a bmx I'm way comfier and feel 100x better on a dj bike than anything else I've sat on.
  • 2 0
Kill and eat anyone who says this to you...
  • 5 0
yeah dude learn to ride a hardtail there fing awesome
  • 3 0
That road gap at the end I'd be scared to hit that on my big downhill machine and he just sends it ( in the snow none the less) that was epic
  • 2 1
It's just a matter of doing it. If you hit the landing nicely, you won't feel a thing even on a hardtail.
  • 2 0
hell yeah! that's the spirit of shredding right there

I like to ride my DJ on trails at least once a month (nothing like this guy tho) and it's always fun. Idunno about the lack of front brake tho I think I'll get one :/
  • 3 0
Suspension and gears? Pfft, who needs it.
  • 1 0
my main concern in doing rowdy shit on my trail bike is breaking the damn bike! once that's done, its off the bike for a looming time
  • 3 0
 Sick riding-sick song!
  • 3 0
 I miss my hardtail :'((
  • 2 0
how versatile a dj bike can be?... a lot, just have so see this video
  • 2 0
This is BADASS SHIT. FUCKING SEND IT !!
  • 2 1
"The Right Bike for the Job is the One You're Riding Now". It's time to see Kranked 1.
  • 1 0
Sick ass video! I'm a wimp for the cold, I'd be chillin inside by the fire, but really cool to see him shred it like that!
  • 1 0
ya your right, you now what i will take my beach cruser down crabapple hits thanks pete mccool
  • 1 1
I love the attitude of this, solid tunes too. Not the best riding but shit son, there were a couple pretty evil deeds in there!
  • 1 1
No cocky enough to wear your dirt jump helmet then? or the usual dirt jump style with no helmet?
  • 1 0
That was nice to see. Great edit and unreal riding.
  • 3 1
 that was rad!
  • 3 1
 Shredder
  • 3 1
 Radditude!
  • 4 4
GT!!! GIVE HIM DISTORTION. And, Pinkbike, Enduro & Style series would be great.
  • 3 1
I think you may have missed the point of the video...
  • 2 2
But you can't possibly think that Enduro & Style doesn't sound awesome Smile
  • 7 7
Does he know about 29ers? He could be so much faster and ride with more confidence...
  • 1 1
 aw man... your replies...

Maybe an 650b? Not too heavy, but faster as a 29er n-duro style?
  • 1 1
whatever happened to sarcasm detectors, certainly makes some people think that 26" make Andreu Lacondeguy out of every dude since they give more playful ride
  • 1 1
certainly every dude on a FS650bCarbon makes an Atherton.
  • 2 0
Atherton rides aluminium bike, so much disadvantage, some could say that if Demo destroyed Gwin's career it was alu GT that broke Gee's wrist because it is not as compliant as carbon and created microcracks in his bone structure. That on top of stiction in his Fox fork
  • 2 1
im guessing he crashed more than the once, 'kin awesome tho
  • 2 1
 he did..
  • 3 0
rewatched, still love it, reminds me of bunking off school to watch crusty demons - need more of this attitude and less corp bs slomo
  • 1 0
@Seven-Second-Betty hell yeah bro! I loved that movie
  • 2 1
Was this filmed 3 years ago, when there was actually snow in Tahoe???
  • 1 0
 Haha aint that the truth
  • 2 2
 I loved this. Inspiring.
  • 1 2
This is so sick but he looked like he was gonna stack after that last no hander
  • 1 1
The last clip was sick with the snow.
  • 2 2
reminds me our early 2000 edit, it's cool! [sarcasm]
  • 1 1
This is mental - in the best way!
  • 2 1
 What a beast.
  • 1 1
All with only one brake. God dam!
  • 1 1
I own a DH bike and i still do this with my Dirt Jumper sometimes
  • 1 2
Fuck the industry and fuck all the anti-democratic 650b worshipers. Burn in hell you stupid ignorant motherfuckers.
  • 1 1
 Hmmmm
  • 2 2
 Nice underwear.
  • 2 3
