Agreed. That being said, nothing wrong with upgrading as long as you are always riding. I've been guilty of being unhappy with my bike because it could be better. The result was less fun/less riding and looking back, I had more fun on my shitty bikes because I was always riding. It's a sad curse to always find unhappiness in the fact that something could be nicer/lighter etc.
But I've recovered, somewhat.
That being said, I think the guy in this vid would love a slopestyle bike.
It's good for people to be happy with what they've got. At the same time let's not pretend that a different bike makes no difference. A different bike can really open whole different experiences of riding.
Bike packing, dirt jumping, epic XC weekends, downhill resort vacations, New York City traffic dodging... all are awesome. There are many different bike cultures and some can only truly be experienced with the proper bike.
But yeah, ride the hell out of whatever you've got.
But I didn't think it was possible to ride a bike off road without it being 650 b.s, 4" wide tyres, massively wide flat bars, full suspension and featured more carbon than the local coal mine. It's such a fun sport but the AGNI crew (all the gear no idea) make it look so expensive to try out. My first downhill bike was an 80's BMX with no breaks and mag wheels, it was crap but boy was it fun!
Sick vid and mad skills, would love to see this guy with a full bounce and two years of practice, Rampage maybe?...
@CaptainBLTSo true! We all get way to caught up in gizmos and new shiny things. We think we need the newest, best ride out there. I my self have been guilty as charged, but after filming with Ty I have a new appreciation for just riding what I have and not what the Industry says I need to ride.
Banshee, gives you options for your wheel size and rear axle length . I ride my rune with 26. Still just as fast as my friends who have the "faster" 27.5 option.. Whoa wonder was conspiracy Keanu would say about that.
I've been riding for 11 years now. (mtb) I am on my second bike. It is cheaper and more fun to find a bike u love, and see how long u can keep it going with minimal upgrades, maximum UPKEEP. I just retired my 1999 schwinn homegrown for a 2009 SC Heckler. My attitude is ride what you want. Ride what you can afford. Take advice from the industry, but dont let the industry determine your style or passion. Make your own way.
Just last year I retired my 2005 Heckler and moved the drivetrain over to my new 2013 Heckler. I did have to buy a new fork and build some new wheels but I'm stoked to be riding something 95% as good as some over marketed, multi-pivot carbon machine for half the price. Ride on!
I feel it. Rode my 07 Trek 3700 into the ground. Good times were had on that bike! Just upgraded to an 05 SC vp free just last year and still having just as much fun. All about the stoke man.
To be fair i broke roughly half of them, and i ride /have ridden pretty much every single discipline: street, park, dirt, fourcross, trials, downhill, xc, track, bmx, etc. So much bikes were needed.
Its not the bike, its your technique. Never even had that happen when i rode DH on my 24 years old rigid xc bike with my saddle up high, neither when i rode down stairs on my fixed gear bike, also with the saddle up high.
After the first crash I thought this guy has a death wish riding that DJ. But after the vid was complete I was amazed at the skills and testicular fortitude. That road gap.....on a DJ in the snow! Awesome riding! Would be sick to see what he could do on a Fury.
Inspiring vid! Coming from bmx I expect to him that 26" hardtail will feel as forgiving as a big DH rig will to most regular mtb riders. He probably doesn't see what all the fuss is about! He's able to send it in the woods on a bigger and softer bike than he's used to. Result is a great vid!
My local trails are smooth enough that SS and street tires work really well. Standing full time can get tiring but catching up to XC guys in full gear is priceless.
I know it is a matter of preference but...how do people ride in skinny jeans?...once wore skinny jeans...After about 5 seconds of skinny jeans thought I would get severe thrombosis. They Squeezed the living shit out of my my gonads and decided to never wear that shit again. Not even thinking of riding a bike. But his riding is obviously better than mine so I might just have to try them again.
Ha, I thought it was only us Brits who call it a wife beater...I remember Si Paton using the term at crankworx to general bemusement from Brad Jay and the other guy (whose name escapes me).
Wife beater is used in the states frequently but from my experience you have to be white, possibly white trash, and the color has to be white as well. Trifecta. By the way, I'm white.
I love riding some of the dh trails here on my dj bike. I always laugh when the guys tell me I should be riding something different. Coming from a bmx I'm way comfier and feel 100x better on a dj bike than anything else I've sat on.
hell yeah! that's the spirit of shredding right there
I like to ride my DJ on trails at least once a month (nothing like this guy tho) and it's always fun. Idunno about the lack of front brake tho I think I'll get one :/
whatever happened to sarcasm detectors, certainly makes some people think that 26" make Andreu Lacondeguy out of every dude since they give more playful ride
Atherton rides aluminium bike, so much disadvantage, some could say that if Demo destroyed Gwin's career it was alu GT that broke Gee's wrist because it is not as compliant as carbon and created microcracks in his bone structure. That on top of stiction in his Fox fork
But I've recovered, somewhat.

Sick video btw

Also don't get them skin tight hahah.

Maybe an 650b? Not too heavy, but faster as a 29er n-duro style?
