Goat Style CANCELLED

Jul 29, 2011 at 14:04
by Tyler Maine
It is with much regret that the organizers of Goat Style have announced that the 2011 Goat Style Bike Jam Festival is forced to be canceled. The event was one of the most anticipated events of the summer, but due to a lack of sponsorship funds the event organizers have run into financial difficulties and have had to cancel the event. An event of this magnitude needs the financial funding from the corporate world as well as the bike industry and unfortunately the support needed did not come through.

At the eleventh hour the organizers of Goat Style and the organizers of Silver Star Bike Park met and brain stormed over the numbers and tried to source additional funding from anywhere they could think of. However, unfortunately they could not find a solution that would do the Goat Style name justice. This event has broken new ground every summer since its inception six years ago and to not do that history or Silver Star’s Bike Park justice would be undeserved.

Silver Star Bike Park and Goat Style have built strong reputations within the bike industry and it is always the plan to carry out events and endeavors that represent those brands proudly and it’s unfortunate that this event lacked the funding from some key supporters that was required to make it a success. Everyone who has already registered for the event will be refunded their registration fees from the Goat Style organizers. Likewise, anyone who has booked accommodation with Silver Star Mountain Resort will be refunded their bookings.

The organizers of the event and Silver Star would like to thank everyone that believed in this event and who planned to attend and also apologize for this unfortunate conclusion. The mountain bike industry is a passionate group and everyone involved in putting this event on were dedicated and deeply passionate for the cause and are very disheartened at this turn of events. All the support shown to this event has been much appreciated.

Who cares about the event name or points, Seminuk sealed the deal at Crankworxs so lets throw the biggest jam ever and raise money for a prize purse and shred Silverstar. Everyone was attending anyways so lets all roll over from Bclaws event and ride Silverstar, epic trails!
We can arrange a beer garden and permits pronto and use the beer revenue to fund the jams insurance.
Who's with me on that?

this is just a desperate final attempt at getting attention from possible sponsors to pull the event back into action.

I never was a sponsor, just rolling through that weekend and selfishly want to see it. beer gardens make money... no brainer. Probably too tight to get a permit in place though, liquor branch moves at their own pace.

that sounds like a killer idea. I'd venture over for beer gardens and riding!

Do it like we did when we created the North American Snowboard Championships back in the early 80's. Entry fee of $100. Top three get paid. The more entries there are, the more prize money there is.

COC, in MTB I am afraid it might not go. We tried it here, and the fact that some pro/known rider who can do a backflip, which is enough, to scare the younger riders who know the have "no chance" and "it's a waste of money". It is a charitable cause, but people are dips*its and care about themselves :/

I have a prior that weekend so I'm out regardless but i think Greg and Ken have it right. Theres still the opportunity to have a sick few days of riding and beer crushing. Sure Goatstyle wont be happening but if you get a big group of rad people to go, the contest is just a bonus. Could still be an all time session.

You should post the local companies that did and the ones that did not support the event so we can repay the favor both ways.

The Camp of Champions is still going and we're bringing our Big Air Bag and our sound system so come on out and have a free Jump Camp session on us all weekend. See you there. Ken

Hey everyone, we're really bummed about Goat Style not working out so we're going to throw a fun weekend of riding anyways! We'll get you more details as we iron them out but so far this is what we've put together for the same weekend Aug 13-14:

Champ of Campions airbag jump session going on in the village - music some prizes and it all happening

Ryan Leech trials show also in the village - always a good time

DH race on Dag's downhill Saturday afternoon

Jump jam session - we're going to still bring in a few of the build crew from Goat Style and build the last couple of hits that was gonig to be the course and through out some cash and prizes for competitors

Live music in the Saloon Saturday night and some good old fun - working on beer gardens, but like Straightline mentioned the liquor board goes at their own pace and plays by their own rules.

So keep coming that weekend, Silver Star Bike Park is dedicated to make it an awesome weekend and it sucks that things didn't work out with Goat Style. Thanks for the support everyone and we'll keep you updated!

Oh, almost forgot Norco is going to be coming that weekend as well and they're bringing their fleet of shiny new 2012 Demo fleet for people to try. More to come!!!!

Being on the build crew for goatstyle and a rider that cant get into that are invite only this was a big downer. this was the only big competition that all riders can get in and that have an open class structure. i was so stoked to ride, have fun, and throw down as best as i could. i feel bad for all the people who worked there hardest to get this comp up and running and see it get shut down for this year. its a crappy day to hear this competition cancelled.

Wow. One less fmba event... Frown sucks! Surprised that there isint enough funding a big event like this, in bc!!! Frown

They moved it to Silver Star because the Creston city council didn't want it anymore!! Even with all the bucks it brought into the community!!! Really sad to see this. Just doesn't make sense that sponsors would or have the right to pull out at this point. Seems ignorant to me! The crew of Goat Style is an awesome bunch of people!!! Really feeling for them with this bullshit happening!!! Huge loss for Silver Star as well !!!! Very sad day Frown

I think they could have got town council to run the event again... they just wanted a bigger venue and event.
  • 1 0
It wasn't Town Council they fully supported the event. just the funding that we got from the government isnt there anymore and the Town had no dollars to through at it

Should have just kept GoatStyle as a smaller event like it was the last couple years for young riders to enter their first competition. That's my 2 cents and I don't think they would have had any problem with sponsors if it stayed in Creston (? I forget where it was)
  • 1 0
yeah it was in creston BC last year
  • 2 0
Yeah they should've kept it there and kept it as a smaller contest for younger riders first competition. That's how I see it.

The Jumpship festival in the city center of Victoria was the underdog event over a 2 week festival but it drew in thousands and stole the show. Now the city of Victoria wants it to be the star of next years Canada Day Celebrations!

Freeride isn't dead it just needs proper exposure to get the $$ and promoters need to bridge bike media with mainstream radio and tv to make sponsors happy. Simple as that.

Goatstyle Silverstar will happen next year wit ha lesson learned I guess.

 Sh*t news.
I was looking forward to going up and taking it all in.
Talked about going to Crankworx this year and decided not to because the Goat was coming here. Fail!

I hope they re-think this event if they plan to try again in 2012.
Kokanee Crankworx dates for 2012 are Aug.10-19 according to what I have read.
Same time as this years Goat Style was supposed to go down.
Maybe try and move it before Whistler, Colorado and Bearclaw Invitational?
This way sponsers haven't already blown there wad of cash.

Why not try and quickly throw together a rider run jump jam or something, kinda like whipoff, im sure some sponsor would throw in some prizes. It wont be fmb tour quality but could still turn into something cool and then less people will change there plans and still show up to silver star.

Go back to Creston where they make it happen.. Silver Star has it's own thing going... Creston appreciates anything, nevermind some sick riding..

Check out the Wam Bam in Fernie August 20 th. It is a night time dirt jump jam event.Check out last years event on bikefernie.ca under events page. Enjoy the footage.

...I forgot that the only events that matter have corporate sponsors... [rolleyes]
  • 4 2
What a fucking joke, if it was still in creston it wouldnt be running into financial issues.
  • 2 1
not true our time in Creston was done
  • 1 0
Creston was far to small for how large the event had become, it made sense to move it to a place like Silver Star.

Freeride is NOT dead... freeride is the way forward!!
  • 1 0
Damn!! Just booked to go there and then read this. Oh well more time to ride I guess.
  • 1 0
Is the freeride over? Apparently when the money isn't there, the freeride is over.
