@ Chainbreaker. I s till think he rocks a 29er.......you think in this day and age that someone can go into a bike shop and buy a 26er??????????? Baaaaaahahahahahaha When I head into shops now, I don't ever look at complete bikes, 99.99999999999% 650's or 29ers. I think a salesman would be fired on the spot if they didn't put someone with cash on a 29er.
On a side not, I wonder if Damon's riding partner asked him while he was rolling on the ground in pain " How do you like them apples"?
@antmav, if you were rolling on the ground in pain and someone came up to you and asked, "how do you like them apples". I'm thinking they have their balls in your face.
Antmav, you are right. I thought the reference in the movie was just referring to Minnie Driver's b**bs. But now I know "apples" can mean anything, including a beating. I had to look it up. My bad.
Jason Bourne would have found a used newspaper, folded it up, and crushed those rocks into gravel and brushed them out of his way before crashing... Too bad Matt Damon couldn't pull that off.
I havent even watched this video so I may be missing something but does anyone care that Matt Damon crashed his bike!!! The guy is a good actor and the Bourne films are good (Books are better) but why do we have a story about a celeb falling off his bike?
Because he is a celebrity that rides and we clamor for every bit of attention we get can get as mtnbikers, i guess. I don't know. i don't get it either.
@Bigburd, The guy is worth $65millon, shit actors dont get paid that kind of money, next time you go to the video store look up the films you have missed: Saving Private Ryan, Invictus, The Departed, the Bourne films, there worth a look.
Also with refernce to my comment above I have nothing against Matt Damon, he seems like down to earth guy who is very successful in the carrer he has chosen, good luck to him. I just dont get that why on a mountin biking website this is news, I'm sure that many celebs in their private lives do things that we all do but we dont need to know about every detail of thier lifes because the majority of us dont care.
Whether or not you like certain famous peoples or not. It is great when they talk about our sport. It gives the support great publicity! The more popular the sport becomes, the more trails, and trail workers there become! I love it whenever I hear a celeb talk about our sport! People love to do what famous people do.
I would have rather seen George W. Bush go OTB and bust his lip open back in 04. The secret service had to scrape dirt and pebbles out of his knees , elbows and chin.
I would rather see Hussein go over the bars. But since hes a brotha i would settle to see him crunk his lay up. Anyone remember him throwing the first pitch a few years ago, lol. Talk about zero sports skills with his "dad jeans"
Not only does this get us coverage, but it gives us a picture of what KIND of coverage the average American is getting about the MTB world. I think it's good that they show us so we can thumbs up or thumbs down as far as whether it's good for our sport or whether the coverage is a bad influence!
i wouldn't say this is coverage. Just because someone said they ride doesn't mean that people watching the show know what downhill or dirtjumping is. THis whole thing is dumb
Speaking of celebs who ride. Orlando Bloom is apparently pretty hardcore mtb rider. He does a gnarly shuttle from time time here in the LA area. No idea how fast he is but it takes above decent skills just to ride some of the trails.
There is always a few celebs that ride you wouldn't think would. Former President George W Bush Jr is an avid mountain biker in Texas. Kramer from Seinfeld was a huge mtber. I remember when Dean Cain (Superman TV show) was on Leno. He was wearing a Bontrager T-shirt. This was BEFORE Trek bought them. I rode on a regular basis with the dudes from the band Chevelle before they became popular and moved to LA and bought Dodge Vipers. Robin Williams is a big time roadie.
It'd be cool to get these celebs out there to lobby for more bike access. Bike lanes, bike parks and open lands become easier when you have a popular group in the movement. I'd love to ride to work on a cool route to work, but I don't. I can go from road, to bike trails, to mtb trails, back to the road. 15 miles. I don't cuz there is a good chance I'd end up as a hood ornament with the Dip S#!*$ on the local shoulderless roads in my area. Sorry for the lasp into a political type tone, too much snow and ice too early this year. Stupid indoor trainer has me thinking too much..
Michael Richards who played Kramer had a green Klein hanging on his apartment. I think he insisted in showing it off. Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols talked about mountain biking in the 90's. This was when he as fit f*cker, not the fat bastard he is now (still awesome though).
I think Jennifer Lawrence bikes too. Hang on, I think I have her schedule on my stalker schedule book...
@COnovicerider there have been several threads on r/mtb (reddit) with people from Texas saying GWB is actually a pretty decent xc rider. I think he rides a Trek Superfly
Don't forget Woody Harrelson. The dude is a maniac on wheels. He's also quite involved in bike advocacy.
I was sad to have missed him by a few minutes on a trail I helped build. My friends filled me in later on how they rode all our normal trails in my local park. We were at the bar and they were trying to convince me. No really, you missed woody by like 10 minutes. He was tearing it up.
Fuck he's got his hair back.. I worked on the movie Elysium , he was bald then ,btw he has a very lumpy looking looking head.
On a side note he got the mumps halfway through filming and main unit production was shut for 2 weeks.
Matt Damon may be older, but he is from Cambridge, Mark Wahlberg is from Dorchester. Saying they're both from Boston gives a good geographical reference to where they're both from, but those are two very different neighborhoods.
Haha, sorry bro. Just thought I'd shed some light. Before living there, I always thought these guys were from "Boston." But there are so many unique neighborhoods throughout the area. Guess I felt the need to share it, didn't mean to take away from the joke.
When it comes to using celebs to promote mountain biking. I say stay home, mountain biking it's no fun at all. Can you imagine if the trail head was like the golf course.
I love trying to get a tee off time. Sheesh
I find it interesting to hear how "hollywood famous" people relate to my beloved sport. Best one of all time is Ben Stiller's night ride: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsHMnjIk-o8
In my opinion this more relevant news to the mtb world than a "revolutionary" new grip that now comes in blue. we like reading about bikes, and people that ride them. everyone on this site has seen a matt damon movie so that gives it some newsworthyness in our world.
3 or 4 weeks and he still in a sling??? seriously.... my sling didnt make it out of the hospital door. Back on the track after 2 weeks. jeees what a poof.
Thanks for bringing your political bias to Pinkbike. Yes Pinkbike. You know the website for all things mountain biking. Get a clue tool and get a life.
Good keep your Monopoly money, fake ass bacon, donuts, fake police, clean air, free healthcare and Celine Dion. Oh and I hear we are also sending Justin Bieber back, you can keep him too

Nah bru... He went OTB in the tech while throwin ground steez...
besides we have Matt Damon and the vast majority of those mountain ranges are all rideable during the winter

Apologies to Matt Damon; we ran
out of time- his bike
Good thing he's a huge supporter of obamacare...is he signed up? Ya right
