The view count are soooo low on these pictures. Just a few years ago (maybe less) PODs would get 20,000 views easily. interesting.......

From my quick look, pod numbers have been down since early 2013. View count seems to have peaked from 2009 to 2013 where pods regularly had 20000 plus views. Now it is closer to 10000. Interesting, there was also a notable change in the type of picture. Before, the pictures would focus more on perspective and the dynamic movement captured in the rider. Now, pictures focus on the composition of the background more than anything else. Its as if the photographer wants to create a painting of a with good composition and then throw a rider in rather than focus on the rider itself. I imagine pod quality is not the issue though. Instead, I believe there are greater social shifts away from action photography towards amateur pov videos. I also think freeride might be dead.

Freeride's not dead, it's just gone underground. Like Hazel.

I'm referring to how "the experience" of biking is really cool now. You know... being in a beautiful scene with big mountains in the background and going on adventures for the sake of seeing new stuff, and high fiving at the top of a steep climb and going down a somewhat steep trail. Freeride was cool because it brought a different perspective to things. Its more like parkour in that you can make anything ridable - it just so happens that the woods were where people made stuff without getting into trouble. Freeriders were once creative. Its not creative anymore.

So I guess what I'm saying is that competitive freeride is alive and kicking, but I agree that its an oxymoron. The real freeride is dead.

#4 for me. Takes skill to get so much depth in that terrain. Super inviting too. Makes me want to grab my bike and dive through my computer screen.
