Superenduro 2016: Round One, Massa Marittima - Race Day

What a way to start the 2016 rebirth of the Italian Enduro Series, named aptly, Superenduro. Set in an incredible location, exciting racing and on perfect trails. The race series has been welcomed back with open arms by the entire mountain bike community here in Italy, it's a showcase of the breadth of talent and also the amazing riding that is on offer.

Race day kicked off bright and early, to get over 400 riders through all six stages in daylight (except a few categories who only race four stages). The stages vary in length from one being over six minutes long and another less than a minute, as you'd expect different stages suit different riders. In the end, it came down to seven seconds between first and second place with over 20 minutes of racing.

The sound of Enrico Guala s voice beckoned through the Tuscan countryside from dawn till dusk quite a reassuring sound. Knowing that Enrico is so well practised in organising events including the EWS we were in safe hands.

Enduro?? why not to call it" downhillwithnoliftonraceday"?? more dangerous to pedal up during practice then running the trails downhill! shuttle drivers racing between them to awrd the max number of lifts in a day!!

I agree, ebikes are fun. That's what it's all about. Get out and ride regardless of what bike you have instead of bitching.

This post has been up for hours and no commentary about e-bike racing?
  • 14 2
Looks like a blast minus the road race and ebike bs! Almost wanna boycott just at the suggestion of ebike racing! I fail to see how it fits in? Just ride dirt bikes if you don't wish to pedal imo

I want to se the è-bikes times.
  • 4 1
In our E-bike races they are always slower than a normal bike.

Why boycott? What does it matter to you if someone wants to ride an ebike in an ebike catagory?
  • 7 2
People can ride electric moped as much as they like. I don't see why they need to be mixed up with bicycles?
  • 3 0
@nakedracing My guess it's the riders that are slower not the bikes - I have seen the results sheets from French e-bike races and Vouilloz, JP Bruni, Olivier Giordanengo, Vincent Juillot and those boys aren't hanging around on e-bikes
  • 2 3
Because they are bicycles, they have pedals and won't move unless they are pedalled. Simple enough?
  • 2 1
A bicycle is a human powered. These arte electric mopeds. And they will further reduce bicycle access to wilderness.
  • 2 2
Do some research, they must be pedalled to work. This makes them bicycles.
  • 1 1
They are mopeds. I rode them. Dont need to put any force on the pedals. They should focus on e-mopeds as city transportation rather than ruining trail access.
  • 2 0
It is not ebikes that cause problems it is the riders. Same as riders who blow by hikers, ride when its wet, skid on trails, leave garbage etc.
  • 1 0
yes Matt they are super fast guys & i'm sure they would beat most riders with no battery in the e-bike. Smile

I think its also down to the tracks, with the 15mph maximum pedelec speed limit on a Downhill stage you hit that in first few pedal strokes so end up with no advantage trying to move a 50lb bike around.

We are going to try putting a timed uphill stage in just for the E-bikes to do.

Looks amazing, specially that gully and some nice pics. I'm very close to this place pretty much 3 times a year and to have some local riding would be sick, anybody know if part of these downhills are open year round, i.e not on private property for the event only? Cheers.
  • 1 0
Yes, open year round but in the winter you have to watch out for hunters and the trails are not guaranteed to be clean, which is a problem because a lot of the times moto riders wreck them.
  • 6 0
Hi guys, we are the bike hotel which organized the race together with the Trail Brothers crew. The trails around our zone are rideable and clean all year long. We provide a shuttle service and guides too. You are welcome to visit us anytime. Cheers

Just registered for bender endure race and it is my first enduro race any tips?
  • 3 3
Pushing a bike up hill is not mountain biking. Pretty lameao. Can do hand sign cool cool hang loose as much as you like, but need to pedal your bike up.

Gustav Wildhaber... is the soon of rené ?

Aria Marcellini is sponsored by Trek but runs Ohlins (Specialized) suspensions ?!? Best of both worlds, that's smart !!!
  • 1 0
I guess also the Lupato Brother´s are sponsored by Trek and running Oehlins
  • 2 0
Alia races for Cingolani Trek, which is a team sponsored by trek and ohlins, ohlins tested MTB suspension with specialized but they are two unrelated companies besides that
  • 7 0
 Ohlins =/= Specialized.

Nice one Windog. This place looks sick.
