This weekend just over California's border in the mountains outside of Reno, NV, an exciting day of racing kicked off the 2015 California Enduro Series at the Battle Born Enduro.

Round 1 of the California Enduro Series began on Peavine Mountain. Downtown Reno could be seen from every stage.

The trails of Peavine Mountain served as a prime location for the first race of the series. At 8,200 feet tall, the high desert mountain offered spectacular views of Reno and the surrounding desert. The high elevation coupled with the loose sandy corners and technical rocky descents provided plenty of challenges for competitors this weekend.

Pro rider Lauren Gregg Pivot Fox Factory chatting it up with Jason Moeschler WTB Cannondale Overmountain prior to the race start. A flat tire on Stage 2 significantly hurt Gregg s final result but she was able to make up enough time to end up in 5th place showing strong fitness going into the season. Moeschler along with many other riders also experienced technicals on the course but still ended up with a very respectable 11th place finish.

Mechanicals were common on the technically demanding course. Many racers chances of strong finishes were dashed by issues with their bikes or crashes in the loose sand or unpredictable rocks.

Kevin Smallman Cannondale Incycle going hard and looking determined on Stage 4. Stage 4 was the longest of the stages with the most pedalling and opportunity to make up time. The roughly 7-8 minute segment included a lung-busting climb and a long pedally traverse to the finish line.

The California Enduro Series made the exciting announcement that they have teamed up with the Chillhouse (link- http://www.thechillhouse.com/California-Enduro-Series-Raffle) to offer an unbelievable raffle prize, a once in a lifetime Bike and Surf Vacation to Bali for one lucky winner and a guest!

When times were finally posted it was a mad rush to the Results board as everyone scrambled to see how the times had shaken out. With five stages and plenty of places on the course to either make a mistake or make up time it was difficult to predict how you placed before actually getting your eyes on the results.

all I have to say is Marco Osborne is a cheater, at the top of stage 3 he was cutting corners and going off trail. Not saying he wouldnt have taken 2nd but those that are cheating are supposed to be DQ'd. I hope you realize Marco that others notice what you are doing, and I hope if you keep it up, you will get called out. Rant over

Thank you. I'm glad someone said it. Marco cut corners the entire race. I'm really disappointed that the officials did not disqualify him. It's even worse that he placed 2nd. There needs to be a higher standard. Cannondale, Marco gave you a really bad rep this weekend. You should talk to him about it.

You guys are fucking retarded. Ya'll are just butt-hurt cause he beat you. He was just taking lines that already existed. He stayed on course for the entire race. I watched him at the beginning of stage 3, and all he did was go further outside before the corner, taking lines that almost everyone else was taking. Going high on lines isn't cheating its being smart. He didn't cut anything. I rode with him the whole day and watched every line he took. Stop spreading rumors that aren't true

First of all. Where you an official of the race? Who observed these apparent corner cuttings and cheating? All this talk of cheating is bullshit just as much as air soft is. You want to talk tools maybe get one that throws bigger ropes them 10mm plastic. @airsoftesneeto where was your woman while this cheating was going in? I'll tell ya.. Or maybe You tasted it

I have to agree with @happymarmite marco was only taking the lines that all of the other (smart) riders were taking. Plus, how would marco cut the switchbacks at the top of stage 3 if there were a line of spectators waiting to start?

I can say, I have been hearing a lot about Marco cutting the course. And I also can so im super bummed Timing and Scoring changed the next day. Make you feel like crap after you told everybody one thing and something else happens. However.. Marco is one fast Mofo and going high on switch backs and cutting in or straight lining stuff in the world of enduro is fair game. Give him a break, He races at the highest level where this mentality is mandatory to go anywhere in the sport. Marco is a badass and he deserves the place he worked for. Just saying. and that's coming from a fellow competitor not a spectator or Pb forum rat.

Damn. Marin has been crushing it on the Enduro circuit the last 2 seasons. Lots of talented racers and awesome new bikes have the company really turning the corner. Glad to see they've reversed course and are reclaiming their previous high reputation. I love the new Attack Trail.

I noticed that too. Kyle Warner on the pro podium on a Marin, Bri Spiersch on pro podium on her Marin Attack Trail, The Yackle brothers on the Jr podium on their Attack Trails, and sport/beginner men on podium with a Marin. Pro Evan Geankoplis on a Marin also had some super fast stages while battling the flu.

What's up with the picture of Zach Peterson? Top secret bike?

 It's art. You don't understand.

Pixelated bike porn? Come to think about it, that saddle doesn't look quite right in that pic...

Was bummed to hear about the timing issues yet again esp from the most demanding stage. I guess it would not be an american enduro race if there were not timing issues. The euros seem to have this figured out yet with many of the west coast enduro races I hear about timing issues seem standard. Go figure...

Was that a hardtail fatbike @1:04? fatduro....or flatduro?

Me too. CA Enduro has a few season under their belt. Timing should be dialed in at this point. It's not fun having to wait around 6 hours either for results when you need to drive home that night.
  • 3 1
After some reflection on the weekend, the 4-5 hours waiting for results was the final "meh" on a pretty "meh" weekend for me.

Fun race if you are local but the drive really wasn't worth the destination.

They should call it "NorCal Enduro Series" not a single race below Mammoth these last two years. There are so many epic trails in SoCal too!
  • 2 0
^^^^^^^^ yeah, what he said ^^^^^^^^

If you can find a venue in SoCal to host, then they would gladly run one down there. No one will step up.

Don Jackson puts on a pretty good show at southridge! Any one ask him I am sure he would put one on!!

Wow, so many amazing trail around Tahoe 30 minutes away and they run the race on these trails? Lame.

There's another race at Northstar FYI. It's part of Cali enduro, and, for the first time will be a North American event. For those that have not ridden Peavine - it's definitely worth a look. The trail network is pretty impressive. From my knowledge there probably wouldn't be a very good trail network around Tahoe to support such an event. Tahoe City has cool trails but not sure how you would link up the transfers. Rim trail is amazing for all day epics, but again, how to link the trials. Same thing with the stuff around the flume on the Nevada side. There are definitely cool trails around Truckee that could work, but are illegal. And, I'm not sure any of the trail advocacy groups would sign off on hosting an event with 300 riders blasting their trails (not including spectators and practice runs). With EVERYTHING around Tahoe being as protected as it is I'm sure there would be some massive red tape headaches to deal with as well.

They should run a race over at South lake Tahoe. Add in Toads, Armstrong/Corral, and Cold Creek and youd have the best Enduroo in the country.

@Phattires that would be super sick. Those are some of the best trails in the country. Wonder if it could be pulled off?
