What do you get when you combine a sprinters track with talcum powder dirt and perfectly built berms and jumps? Options! A track which suits both the fastest of the world cup downhillers and the local strong-legged enduro bunnies. Going into today's race no one knew who to watch. It was anyone's race.

Starting high above the festival and town
The start of the track came down the side of the Skyline Hill overlooking Lake Rotorua.

Mr Black is Skyline's latest creation - a flowing trail that was built to replace a once unpopular, flat grade 2 trail. Built by both the Skyline trail crew and empire of dirt. The trail descends 242 meters over 2.3 KMs. Packed full of 32 hittable features.

The track was tucked in amongst more scenic skyline berms

The Open Men's/Elite field featured 45 entrants. Local Auckland rider, Josh Reiley started leaving behind 20 pro men. He went into the hot seat by over two seconds and that stood until the last seven riders started to drop in. Progressively the lead changed before George Brannigan cleaned it up by just under two seconds on Louis Hamilton. Many riders such as Matt Walker and Phil Atwill didn't start due to focusing on pump track practice.

I was looking at flights way ahead next year from seattle to auckland and even that far in advance it was still $2,000 dollars one way!! I found good deals from honolulu to NZ but still, I want to go there so bad. Looks like glorious island life....so jealous

I noticed with flights to the states (from Europe) that one way tickets cost quite a bit more per direction than if you book a return at once. Maybe it's the same if you search for returns instead?

Then again I also think this is a tactic of the USA reassuring visitors will leave their country and will not try to stay.

Here in NZ return flights to/from SanFran are regularly seen at around $1100-1400NZ. A little more from BC.

I went to Utah last year and we managed to pick up some airfares from Christchurch to SLC (not direct) for $1200 NZD

Dude if your in Seattle, just drive over to Vancouver for the flight. Checked yesterday, Air NZ from YVR to AKL, direct, $1350 Canadian in mid May for 2 weeks.

All this crankworx rotorua make me want to go there so bad!

No one is telling you what to do. If you don't feel like you're living life at the fullest where you currently live, then move.

hahahaha, @Mattin don't take comments so seriously man.

I come from a boring town where everyone is complaining how boring it is and how it sucks to live there, still no one goes away. Can't believe I'm the only one who moved to Amsterdam.

Especially can't understand it if they say "I just got my own apartment" and I ask them where and they respond in the same city they always lived.

Because of this I have a strong opinion/feeling about people complaining where they live, it's their own choice.

Cool to see in the pic, "That light bro" that he looks like he's riding a stock Giant Trance amongst the swarm of higher end bikes, though I'm a little worried for him because his chain looks like it's doing the worm.

That track looks amazing, New Zealand looks amazing, time to rethink living in the UK I think. Great to see a Commencal Meta taking the win too...

Air DH, but I can only see two dh bikes. Nothing against this style of flowy jumpy race, lots of fun and eveything but come on, this ain't no DH, especially when you're at a disadvantage using a proper DH rig.

The air Dh in rotorua is just like the Aline race in whistler...it's not meant to be a Dh bike race...it's a flow race...the downhill race is in Sunday...this was meant to be a race that allows those that don't ride the gnarly participate in CWX..no price money, no points for King and Queen...just an all around good times.

I know all of that, just feels like Air DH is a quite bad representation of what the race is really about. Hey crankworx, how about calling that race the CWX AirFlow?
