Russ Bock the winner of the Devinci District 1 at this years AFA's is a generous man! After winning the bike he called us up a few days later and said he wanted to donate the bike to needy kids. We were pretty amazed! The bike is now for sale here at Calgary Cycle. It's regular price is $1300 but it's now going for $1199. The proceeds from the sale of the bike will go towards new bikes for the Pinkbike Share the Ride program.

We were part of this season's Share the Ride. We gave away 50 Trek kids bikes just before Christmas. It was nothing short of incredible. Calgary Cycle shares the ride.

Thanks Russ! We know there's going to be some really happy kids as a result of your generosity.

I think selling it and giving the proceeds to share the ride is an awesome idea...that way not just one kid gets to enjoy it, but a whole pile of kids learn how amazing life on a bike can be.

Reply to revolt: Well I think I would like to live in a world where a lot more people made themselves feel good by doing deeds such as this. That kind of selfishness is never a bad thing. Why do you think the saying "tis better to give then receive" was invented. Of course it makes you feel good. That feeling should be celebrated and you shouldn't be ashamed of feeling good for doing a selfless deed.

Reply to revolt: I understand what you mean. You've noted an inescapable element in philanthropy, and also altruism...one that can be interpreted/misinterpreted as selfishness. Still, one must at least be able to see the forest for the trees, so to speak, and observe that good is indeed being done. No?

I think you should all recognize that when I came up with the idea for this, Calgary Cycle was really helpful in coming up with a plan that would really work. Derek and Leah at CC should really be given the credit, since they are the ones who came up with the plan and made it happen, all I did was donate a bike.

finally someone who sees no madness on my comment!!!! ... i can not understand how people can get so mad at an ironic joke ... ... i can't believe that nobody has a bit of sense of humor ... Everyone knows that it was a good job... and that is what i ment ... but thats ok... and by the way... i see everyone giving me negative props but i don't see noone commenting what i said on the comment right before this... well ... seems like everyone likes the idea, but nobody would contribute for it

some people say that philanthropy is being selfish at heart because they do it to make themselves feel good and not for the others. Any serious rebuttals to this notion?
