Clay Porter dropping the newest 3 Minute Gaps behind the scenes with Aaron Gwin on Pinkbike. Check it. We also got a quick Q&A with the Trek rider.
1. Name, Age - Aaron Gwin, 23
2. Born and raised? Where do you live now? - Born in Palm Springs California, grew up in Morongo Valley Ca. and now living in Temecula Ca. Cali's got the flave!
3. Why do you live there? - It's home for me, and you can't beat the winter weather. Makes training a lot easier.
4. Tell me about the vision you and Clay had for your section. - I think we just wanted it to be different from your normal style of riding. We both think that race tracks need to go in a different direction so we filmed everything with that in mind. I also raced motocross for a long time so I like riding stuff that's fast. I guess in two words, all we wanted my section to show is speed, and so cal. Yea brah.
5. Were you guys successful in achieving that vision? - For sure, I hope everyone else is as stoked on it as we are.
6. People have seen the big jump you hit now via a still frame on Clay's Twitter. Tell us about it. - Well it ended up being a lot bigger than I thought it was gonna be but the jump still wasn't super huge. I think we can go bigger in the future but we got what we were looking for this time. Also might be a bonus shot in the film of that jump not going so well.. haha.. Be on the lookout.
7. Tell us a memorable story from the week of shooting? - Hmmm.. Roosting Clay's camera too hard, sorry bud. Clay running down a hill and dropping that same camera a few minutes later. Epic sushi sessions. A real big indo. Sketchy jib arm shots. Sick So Cal moto bros. Good times.
8. How important is it that you shoot with filmers that you're comfortable with. - I think it's super important. Filming a section like that takes a lot of time and effort so knowing that same work will be put back into the movie is awesome. We had a vision coming in and with the help of the two Johns, I think we made it happen. Were all good friends too so that always makes filming a lot more fun.
9. With web videos being everywhere these days, tell me how important it is for you to have a film project to focus on like 3 Minute Gaps. - We've had ideas for this section for a long time so it was just cool to have the time to do things right. I guess that's the biggest thing, it takes a ton of time. For me, it was only a week of actual riding, but for Clay, the hours are crazy. If you wanna do things right and not cut corners, it takes a while. We wanted every shot in the section to be cool, not just one or two bangers. It took some work, but I think we pulled it off.
10. What's next for you and Clay Porter? - Haha Only time will tell! Won't lie though, we're already throwing ideas around..
11. What are your goals for the 2011 World Cup Season? - To have fun! Seriously, that's it. If fun is happening, myself and my sponsors will be happy.
