Ray George and Simon Silver got together with their good friend Connor Luther to film and produce their first video for
SR Suntour and
Polygon Bikes.
"
A piece of land means the world to any mountain biker with vision. It gives opportunity for ideas to grow and for those ideas to be created. In places like Santa Cruz County, a decent chunk of land that is available for use is uncommon. Luckily for us, Simon Silver has access to arguably the most beautiful and expansive slice of heaven around." -
Ray George"
I've been wanting to build some larger dirt jumps for DH bikes for a while now, I was excited to be given this opportunity by SR Suntour and Polygon Bikes to make a video project happen." -
Simon Silver"
Though we may not have access to this dream property forever, we wanted to make use of it while we have the chance. Through numerous far-from-perfect circumstances that we put ourselves in, everything worked out in the end. This is 'Lay of the Land', presented by SR Suntour and Polygon Bikes US." -
Ray George"
Ray and myself have filmed some casual videos over the years, and it was awesome to work on a longer, more serious project with him. Having two perspectives when building new features is key, there were lots of things we'd point out to each other, ultimately making things easier, and more exciting." -
Simon Silver"
On one of our important filming days, Simon had a huge crash. It was more like a car accident. We were attempting a glidecam shot out of a truck bed. Simon had a random worst case scenario overshoot that launched him right into the tailgate of Connor’s GMC Sierra. It couldn’t have gone much worse. Fortunately, he escaped with a bruised pancreas, but that took him out of our time window to shoot." -
Ray George"
On one of our last days of filming, I crashed fairly hard which ultimately put me out of filming for the rest of the time. There were some clips on our big trick jump that I really wanted, but sometimes things can take a sudden turn. I'm pumped on how things turned out, and want to give a huge thanks to Connor Luther, Davin Pena, and Aaron Bowles for capturing everything!"
Simon Silver"
This project was a lot to take on for two people, which made it a big learning experience for both of us. I had never used any sort of tractor in my life, and Simon was a little more experienced than me. We had a week to blaze a trail and pile up some gaps that looked like they’d work. Had we built everything right the first time, we might’ve not had to sink shovel into that dirt again after that week; but life doesn’t always work out how you plan it to." -
Ray George"
I have never before guinea’d a big jump. For this project, I ended up testing out most of them; some worked first try, some didn’t. After some last minute trial, error, and improvements, we got the line in working order." -
