I love the Elba island, and they are doing well in developing mountain-bike tourism in the last few years (they started to mark trails in 2010 or so). Just avoid to go there in the summer as it gets very crowded and chaotic (Capoliveri remains a bit safer as it's in the inner and not on the coast). Best in April-May and September.
Yep you're right.. respect to the Elba people. This was our second trip to Elba in 6 months, so we had a heads up on what we wanted to try to do there, but as you say the island is littered with good singletrack to go explore... and yes theres a bit of hike-a-bike, but isnt there always to get to some great descents?
I will be there over Christmas dotting the i's and crossing the t's for our skills weeks starting in 2014. Daria and myself will host several all inclusive trips a year, anyone wanting to come and join us feel free to drop me a line for more info.
Actually, I enjoyed it overall. The "Dont mention the war" crap was just dissappointing. The World has moved on, (he says, knowing full well, that for many people is really hasn't).
Please, it's national stereotyping, not racial stereotyping. The difference is just a word but they are a million miles apart. Of course national stereotyping could be seen as unnecessary, but really this is me taking the p!ss out of my own nation's (British) perceived eagerness to get worked up about conflict that happened 70 years ago. Yep cheap laughs I know. My (OK John Cleese's) jokes, or my fun film, don't suggest that my German friends are in any way aligned to the german military of the 1930's. Watch again, the humour is in taking the p1ss out of us Brits and our seeming inability to "forgive and forget", the same ironic national identity that is so eager to cling onto the 1966 football World Cup result etc. My German mates (they've been on more than 1 trip with me) in this film are portrayed as nothing but positive and friendly, it's me that loses it and makes daft references. It's self-mocking at best. Hurl abuse at me for p1ss-taking the Brits but dont suggest I'm knocking my European mates. Europe is great, I just thought it could be a fun kind of tongue in cheek take on the state of the "European union" as it crumbles around our ears. And yes, I have moved on. In fact I was never 'back' there in the first place. Hope that helps put it in perspective. I promise never to reference another war in any of my episodes. Even the forthcoming one on Afghanistan. :-0
Why you feel the need to explain yourself is beyond me. You have done nothing wrong, you cant say fucking shit these days with out offending some one its ludicrous. Free speech will be a myth before you know it and its just not right. What you said was meant as a joke and should be taken by one. There are loads of Germans on here and no doubt they have seen it and said nothing. Keep up the great vids man I enjoy them and look forward to them.
Europe seems to really have there shit together. You can ride on pretty much any trail you can find. At least that was my experience when I lived there.
Yep, tons of good fun stuff to ride there. And it being Europe means you can ride with whoever you want, whatever the nationality.. Holger and Karen are great riders and a lot of fun to make a fun (silly) film with.
Was that supposed to be funny? I guess if you don't meet many foreign prople, you feel the need to make these crap jokes based on 1970s tv shows. It's 2013, get with it!
Damn, my jokes fell flat again. Apologies BBP for trying to inject humor (cheaply I know) into our sport, I'll try to be a little more serious and a little less flippant in the next episode. Actually I'm lying, as it's on Scotland. And yes I must start travelling more. 30 years around the globe with my bike to places like India, Nepal, Morocco, South America, US, Afghanistan and all across Europe hasn't dampened my appreciation of John Cleese's Fawlty Towers. Sorry. Hey I lived in Bristol for 10 years and was there again 2 weeks ago. I should have dropped by.
Well you have to be a very "special" person to travel all around the exotic places of the world and still make such a crap comment when you are in Europe. I'm laughing but it's not with you, it's at you. BBP is right, it's 2013. No hard feelings but that 1970's show does not seem to suit you. You seem like a cool guy overall and I really liked the flick (including your commentary during it). Meeting that couple, especially the pretty blonde was a sure highlight.
Enjoyed this a lot more than I did watching Arvll (or whatever its called)
