Scottish XC Champion Rab Wardell Dies of Heart Attack at 37
My sincere condolences to Rab’s family and friends. As alarming as these well documented and extremely common occurrences of heart problems (I.e. POTS, myocarditis) associated with long covid AND vaccines are, I do not think that the comments section below an obituary in anyway an appropriate place for anyone to express their views, whatever they might be on such matters, or to be verbal abuse anyone. for goodness sake people have some respect, and take it elsewhere! FWIW I personally have been sidelined from all riding and strenuous physical activity for the past 6 months, with covid-related myocarditis, after contracting covid. I count myself lucky to have found out early but it is enormously frustrating and stressful to suddenly to have such a disease. Not an athlete but a healthy and active 41yo. Be careful out there people and listen to your body. Again my deepest sympathies to Rab’s family and friends.

Video: $450 vs. $2000 Suspension - Budget vs. Baller Episode 4
This series must be up there as the worst ever produced by Pinkbike. Here I was thinking GMBN's content was cringeworthy...

Video: $180 vs. $1900 Contact Points - Budget vs. Baller Episode 3
Absolutely. When I started riding I was very much someone who needed to hunt around for deals and be really canny, now I'm in a position where I can just go out and buy the parts I feel want or need. This series is completely disingenuous. Making comparisons from off-brand parts AliExpress and premium offerings from JensonUSA is ubsurd and really provides so little real world value. Its also thoroughly unhelpful for people new to the sport that might find the potential cost of the sport a serious barrier. What would be SOOO much better is to see something akin to the student me—riding a couple of year old aluminium bike with revelations/yari single ply basic compound tyres and a low end drivetrain—and the now 40-something me riding a niche-brand carbon bike with Factory 36s fitted with a Smashpot, a Push ElevenSix and some enduro casing tyres with soft compounds, etcetera etcetera. Comparisons of relevance and value might have been: Rockshox AXS vs OneUp dropper Rev grips or ODI Elite Pro vs DMR deathgrips Crank Brothers Stamp 11 vs Raceface Chester pedals Enve Stem and Handlebars vs budget Brand X or Funn stem and handlebars The simple point is that you CAN spend the earth on your bike should you wish but it's not actually a requirement. You can have a riot and shred hard on a fairly modest rig, where your upgrades are affordable. Ballin' hard can be something you aspire to but it should be made clear that in mod instances their performance benefit from much much more affordable mid range offerings are often slight and in some cases almost imperceivable.

Bike Check: George Brannigan's Propain Rage Mullet Bike - Crankworx Rotorua 2020
You know whats really nuts? You can't buy Propain in NZ either— in spite of the fact that their rider Brannigan is a kiwi! Talk about a lost opportunity... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

First Look: IXS Trigger FF - One of the World's Lightest Full Face MTB Helmets
@unrooted: Just so you know. Me—late thirties with a full head of hair, albeit now somewhat receding—just took a massive digger a few weeks back and my head hit the deck first. I was travelling pretty fast and cracked my helmet on impact and gave myself a moderate concussion. In my case my helmet, a TLD A1 non-mips, did not rotate a la MIPs. I think had I been wearing one I might have been far better off. I'm now of the opinion that MIPS or similar rotational device is a necessity, full face or otherwise. *I know this is an old post so please understand my reply is intended for those, such as myself who read the comments at a later date. Peace.

if they do away with it I think they'll sell a lot more. I'd never buy another bike with one.

Pinkbike Poll: What's the Most You'd Spend on a Mountain Bike?
@StackingItSince1991: nahhh, you just need to find the right seller. Buying bikes secondhand is for those with both patience and a keen eye for detail.

Pinkbike Poll: What's the Most You'd Spend on a Mountain Bike?
Absolutely. I think this question should be rephrased "as how much would you spend on a bike relative to your current income?" and the answer for me would be no more than no more than 5% of my annual net salary. Ideally closer to 3% (with the understanding that I will keep it for three years).

Video Highlights: EWS La Thuile 2018
@sarah-maude: I totally agree. I do wonder if it has more to do with their fundamental approach to racing Enduro. Both Graves and Rude are big riders whose training seems to have a lot of emphasis on gym work for strength and power. This is compared with Hill who if anything has slimmed down since his DH days, and (it would seem) focuses his attention on endurance fitness rather than all-out power. Besides the fact that he is an astonishing rider, I imagine Hill's approach of prioritising consistency rather than out of the gate speed means that he's also a lot less hard on his gear. And if you wanted to get really deep, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's concept of Flow serves as pretty great explanation for why top riders such as Hill, Ravenel and others (Pierron, Atherton, Gwin, Bryceland...) have the ability to consistently outperform their rivals when they are at the top of their game.
