 Andreu Lacondeguy:

"Enduro??? Hahaha wtf is enduro??? Its called mountain bike , my parents where doing it 20 years ago. Get f*cked mtb industry"

I think there is nothing more to say...

Is it just me or "Enduro bullcrap" is the thing that trolls blow on forums, while industry and film makers stay rather reserved? A year ago I was writing myself an article starting more or less like that: "EWS - Now the wave of bullshit will cover us all". But I watched the boiling sea of hype and it never came. Instead I saw a tsunami of lame enduro-specific jokes Frown

Take it easy guys, it is just mountain biking. That movie is sweet, that guy has some amazing skills and flow in his riding in all movies, amazing merge of great rider and great trail put together by a mountain bike - appreciate and enjoy!

WAKI your an innovator my "friend". Although I dont agree with everything you post, (probably because Im somewhat an innovator myself) I generally get your vibe. Rock on, Ride Hard !
  • 9 6
waki you nailed it! *bows down*
  • 4 2
Andreu always has been the king of PC statements haha love it. Settin em straight. Rock on!
  • 28 2
How about we just ignore it? As in, someone posts something about the word enduro, and no one pays attention to it... revolutionary, I know.

That edit was really sick. I'm not sure if this was intentional or not but that nose bonk into manualing through the whoops was insane.
  • 9 1
Good to see enduro is reinventing the 90's XC style of massive colour clashes too Wink

In all seriousness, whatever you call that riding (it was DH from my perspective), it was bloomin' awesome. Bas's style is so laid back we could all be fooled into thinking we could schely just the same... until actually hitting the trails Smile

Enduro is a race format. Companies use it as a marketing tool and overuse it. Just like they did with every other race format.
  • 21 21
Enduro is a race format - true. But it is also a little precious treasure inside the heart of most mountain bikers, that many treat as the reason why they mountain bike, it embodies all that is good in it for us. And I think this is what Andreu talks about. Now many people think that someone tries to take it from them or shit on it. Well no, it is what it is for you, it is surely something different for me, may be similar, there may be patterns in larger groups, but it is still something very personal. And so it should be, there is no need to confront it with the outer world, there is no need to underline every freaking time "what is mountain biking really about". Getting overexcited about it means to me that we treat "Enduro" that little precious way too seriously and it manifests itself by making jokes to hurt to defend it from God knows whom and what. Well we are hurting ourselves this way. I know it sounds gay but that's the way it is, you do what you do and no one can take it from you, only you can foolishly give it away

I realized that if someone is giving me a jobby with ketchup and mustard on, and tells me it's a fine sausage, then I should be smart enough to recognize it and not to eat it. Furthermore I should be smart enough to keep on eating sausages whenever I like to, even though someone wanted to make me feel bad about them. Just let it slip from you and go on doing what you do the way you like, after all from that sea of hype we are going to get some great biking products thanks to "Enduro". I just bought second hand XX1 cranks, slightly above the price I paid for SLX 5 years ago, and mounted a spiderless N/W chain ring to it. The feeling of skipping two piece chainring bolts and unreliable lower rollers on chain guides - priceless!!!

  • 7 0
As far as i understand enduro is just a word used for the race format.
  • 4 0
Just like mountain biking is a word for every discipline that has to do with riding a bicycle on a mountain. If im going
  • 9 0
Downhilling id still say im going mountain biking...
  • 11 5
Also posted by Lacondeguy on Facebook two weeks ago "the YT Capra looks amazing. if you need a enduro bike, then this is your best choice!" - apparently he doesn't find the need to tell the MTB industry to get f*cked about Enduro when he is promoting his sponsor. Odd that. Perhaps he should change his message to "Enduro??? Hahaha wtf is enduro??? Its called mountain bike , my parents where doing it 20 years ago. Get f*cked mtb industry - unless of course you are paying me to help you sell bikes in which case i will say whatever you want to to in a totally non-hypocritical manner"
Well at least its a step up from his totally non bigoted "olimpics are f*cking gay! freestyle its not olimpic." Facebook post.

  • 3 0
B*tch and moan all you want, if they are giving away good kit, they can call it what they like in my opinion!
  • 6 0
I liked it better in the early 2000's when every version of Mountain biking was first described with "EXTREME".
Can we bring that back please? Might bring the negative stigma away from the term "Enduro" when it's called "EXTREME Enduro".
  • 3 0
Im confused. how does all mountain fit into this all. i usually just get on the bike and ride until i can point it down.
  • 4 1
@Waki..True that! Don't know why you're getting neg props.
  • 3 0
This hairsplitting crap is so lame, who cares. If you say "Enduro" or "Enduro Bike", anybody knows the meaning. I´ve read the "For me it´s just Mountainbiking, I did the same thing 20 years ago"-crap million times, and it´s as stupid as a hipster`s "I did it before it was cool"

BTW So much style in this video!
  • 1 0
I like that better "extreme enduro"
  • 1 0
I'll be surprised if YT don't have something to say about Andreu's comment, as an ambassador for their brand, and what with them selling Enduro specific models and all...
  • 3 5
The best thing about Andreu is that you can hear that he is talking from the heart and he is truly honest. He isn't overdoing it at the same time, anyone can throw crap to try to prove something. That is extremely rare these days, most of interviews are either shy and reserved or overloaded with passionate bullcrap talk, where a poor athlete is cornered into talking about his deep emotions and devotion to the sport, in the same way Snooki talks about abortion. I mean that "I am a bad ass but at the same time I am super chilled out, but I don't wont to hurt anyone's feelings" - that sums up most of interviews these days. Andreu talks a bit like sport stars used to talk in the 80:s, zero sponsor bias, you got it on the table, as it was, with all the good and all the crap, as everyone of us is.
  • 2 0
Andreu embodies mt.biking. He's not gonna sell you a bike, but he will attract you to the sport because of his passion for mt. Biking.
  • 2 0
Is the flat pedals with spd shoes an enduro thing?
  • 2 0
@ WAKIdesigns - "zero sponsor bias" - Seriously? Two weeks ago he posted on Facebook "the YT Capra looks amazing. If you need a Enduro bike, then this is the best choice" - exactly how much more of a sponsor bias could you get then "get f*ucked mtb industry - unless you are my sponsor - in which case your Enduro bike is amazing"?
  • 5 1
paulski- It's called, don't bite the hand that feeds you. The only athletes who talk shit on their own sponsors over something as frivolous as the word "enduro" don't tend to be sponsored for much longer. I find it hilarious how you view positively representing his sponsors as him being a hypocrite... no, it's called being EMPLOYED. They don't get paid just to ride their bikes. They also get paid be a human advertisement for their products at events and in social media. This isn't any different for any sponsored athlete that has ever lived. Get over it and quit whining about someone's status on facbeook.... you're sounding more and more like a teenage girl or fanboy that doesn't quite understand how sponsorships work.
  • 2 0
Well clearly Paul he had a major change of mind in those last two weeks lol
  • 3 1
Andreu just rules. He just does. So suck it.
  • 2 0
paulski - I meant that in this particular interview he has zero sponsor bias.
  • 2 0
scott-townes - I fully understand how sponsorship works - my comments were essentially directed at those who seemed to portray Lacondeguy as some bastion of truth within the mountain bike community who is impervious to corporate bias - this is clearly not the case. As you stated he is clearly not going to bite the hands that feed him - which makes his calls of "get f*cked mtb industry" even more mindless - he is part of that industry he is so quick to deride and more then happy to promote it when it is self serving. I was merely highlighting the hypocrisy within his statements. And sorry but if anyone is being "fanboy" about this its you for defending someone who makes two clearly contradictory statements within less then a fortnight.

WAKI - this wasn't an interview - both comments were simply Facebook updates made less then two weeks apart.
  • 1 1
Well obviously you don't get it or else you wouldn't care so much about him promoting the brand giving him money... again, you're caring way too much about some facebook statuses.
  • 2 2
And you are caring way to much about me caring way to much about some facebook status.
  • 1 0
How bout just quit commenting on this. Haha its useless guys. I commented forever ago and seeing that my comment recieved 33 replies is crazy haha especially when its all over the word "enduro". Say f*ck it and watch On Any Sunday if you wanna know the definition of the word.

He's wearing shoes with no cleats in some segments of the vid. Still sick though.

Jesus. That front to back manual on the rollers....is fucking INSANE.
  • 13 3
I do love Deity components, but I'm surprised nobody is giving them props for making fun of the whole Enduro madness by saying it is going "downhill". Both a literal and simplistic description of the descending part of mountain biking and a little slap at the whole marketing trend.
  • 5 2
Yet they make an enduro specific handlebar....I guess you either stick with the herd or get left out to die in the cold eh? Wink
  • 10 0
An argument for the name Enduro:
In response to people who are mad that it is called "enduro" and say "It's just mountain biking", I l have a point to make that maybe you have overlooked.
I don't have a DH bike, free-ride is a very broad term, I occasionally ride XC, but mostly I ride "just mountain bike" style. Do you see the problem there? All the disciplines are just mountain biking. For me "enduro" describes a type of riding. Some people call it "all-mountain" but that is pretty vague and frankly inaccurate if you live where there are really just hills.
Enduro motorbikes are not motocross. They are tougher and have larger tanks. They are for long trail rides and races, and are focused on railing turns with some jumps and they are tougher. They can take a beating, hit jumps, and are a blast. Does that sound like a fitting description for enduro mountain bikes?
I know there is a lot of marketing hype. Get over it. It doesn't mean we can't refer to tough mid travel bikes as enduro rigs since they are tough do it all machines, like the motorcycles for which they are named.
  • 2 1
imho enduro is not a type of riding, but a type of race.
  • 2 0
Amen.... Sure it's kinda annoying having a good thing exploited by an industry for means of making money but the term "enduro" for describing a mountain bike or a style of riding perfectly fits between all-mountain and dh. Its nice to not have to describe your bike or style with a sentence rather just a word
  • 2 0
I personally am glad that the bike industry keeps finding ways to make bikes cooler and sell them…..bring it on! Otherwise we would all be riding fully rigid 1988 stump jumpers still. That wouldn't be totally bad, but you get my drift!
  • 11 0

Deity, you're a ways away from home, coming out here to Azonic territory Wink

bik3r129, nuff said, your own posts and negative numbers speak volumes...

Shiver and Intense, MAD respect to you and your crew, (And the MAIN Homie who is the most responsible for that trail!), without you guys, there would be nothing for any out of town boys coming in to shred and look half as good on camera as the small handful of locals do there every week.

Bottom line, it's the internet. Anyone who wants to weigh in and look like a hero to a bunch of people they don't know and very likely will never meet by jeopardizing their own backyard may want to not consider riding there anymore. That type of behavior is not looked favorably on. The other option is to Shut Up And Ride. I strongly suggest option 2. Wink

Beside all that Enduro discussion: The guy is really going fast. I would prefer wearing protection and - for sure - a real helmet. Or does this disturb the Enduro style. Oh sorry, once again an Enduro or not Enduro question...
  • 3 2
No fucking kidding put a real helmet on if your riding like that!
  • 4 1
Full face helmets are for the gnar. That was just good ole mtb. A full face helmet would have just been overkill, overweight and over sweaty.

 enduro ....all mountain....light freeride....agressive trail....whatever.....
bikes are evolving and so do we
160mm modern bike have more capabilities than 180mm old school freeride bike from... ten
years ago. belive me ive been there (15 years of riding)
and for that one bike that i own.... i prefer the new one....
  • 3 0
There's this new category, it's call "mountain biking". We ride our bikes up hills then blast down them. Golly it's super duper fun.
  • 1 0
Guys, settle down. This isn't enduro. You have to run full face, a hydration pack, AND carry an XC lid on your back while you DH on your trail bike in order to be enduro. So, we don't have to worry. Must be an editorial mistake. Phew, thought I was getting exposed to more hype. Cool, now I can get back to converting to 1x11 because it's more...enduro! Boooaaahahaha...
  • 1 0
I mist say that i love Enduro!!!
Why?
Cause Enduro pushed the bike industry to build and design products and bikes that can be ridden to the trails or mountains, ride up and hammer down hard!

Makes me feel 15 years younger and that is awesome! Smile

Cheers.

787... that is one wide ass bar. Far to wide for me, I am only 6ft1. It is carbon, so shoild be light. But no weight stated. My steve smith bars have the right shape, but the bulge is in the wrong place to cut them to a sensible 760ish, this bar does not seem to suffer from this, but it would be nice to know. There are so many 9x5 bars out there, seems strange that more are not going with less backsweep like the truvative stevie smith, jc or funn bars.

So why doesn't he just ride a downhill bike? If he wore a full face it would have a lot more protection for riding that intense... I don't see the point of riding a cross country bike if your just going to pretend your riding downhill.

Maybe he didn't want to ride his DH bike.
  • 2 0
look... it not cuz hes riding a AM bike that he need to ride like a noob.... trust me... a lot of riders prefer to go shred with this kind of bike.... you dont need a DH bike to go downhill.... if you make a little research ull find some poeple who ride in whistler with hardtails.....

I know exactly where they are, want the GPS coordinates? I should just post them on here. U think any rangers patrol these forums?
  • 1 0
The trails might get overrun a little...

But since I live over 5,000 miles away, a private message wouldn't hurt too much for a couple of days riding next month Wink ... and that's assuming they're not far from San Francisco, which so far I'm told they are not!
