How To Make Your Friends Look Fast(er) In Photos
@Mimimi: I agree, only bodies are smaller and that opens a new can of worms in terms of handling it's probably a figure of spech though, simple or group asignments I could manage with only one body and a couple 2.8 zooms, short and long range, whereas other guys gotta carry flashes, rigs and stuff to match whatever one can do with the great modern Sony sensors and systems early bodies from the A7 series have the crappiest AF ever in terms of speed with accuracy, which is why I'm sticking to my a77ii with SSM lenses instead of modern plasticky focus by wire thingies. And some of those lenses are actually bigger and heavier

How To Make Your Friends Look Fast(er) In Photos
@mdelorme: I was pleasantly surprised when I saw you with the Sony body, I've followed the "Through The Lens" series and everyone seemed to have Canikon equipment. I do the very same work locally in Peru and even covered a Pan American MTB/XC in Colombia with my loyal a77ii and a mixture of modern Sony fast lenses and the trusty old Minolta beercan. We'll see if 2018 pays off so I can make my move onto mirrorless :D

Behind the Lens - Dan Milner
@DanMilner: You are tottally right about the not-so-hidden cost of photography, I didn't mean to undermine the effort of the pros, I was just making a point about the big gap in our local cycling ecosystem. And as a matter of fact, some ppl might consider me a "pro" bc I started charging more after acquiring more proficiency, technique and special gear to deliver both innovative stills and video. Our cycling market is fairly new and slowly growing though, sponsors are moving step by step with extra caution, which is completely natural. Just as I got back from the recent championship in Colombia I realized one of my batteries is dead, my main lens is dusty as hell and the rear screen of my backup body is toast, and I'm glad I charged properly for the comission (I took all of that in consideration while figuring out a decent amount). Glad to know you've visited Peru although 1989 feels like eons ago, the whole country was a hell of a lot different than what it is atm. Feel welcome to visit our inca trails anytime soon.

Behind the Lens - Dan Milner
Thanks for such great article, I always wondered what the hell happened to the Behind the Lens series, it has served as inspiration for my own project. Mountain Biking is slowly growing in Peru, photographers are underpaid and there's a big gap between the newbies or fast learners, who have very few gear and the ultra pros with 1DX mark 2s who think they deserve $1k per shot. I started from scratch and worked my way up, I'm off to the cover the next Panamerican XCO Games in Colombia next week with our MTB national team and I'd like to put a spotlight in my colaborators and colleagues in the same manner on my own website (being developed still). Thanks for this articles, let's keep them going or let's try to update them somehow. Last year I had the chance to meet Claudio Olguin in Cuzco, after I read about him on one of this articles a while ago, the very same that inspired me to follow his steps in MTB photography.

while I agree with you, I also agree that as time goes by you regret more the things you didn't do (or buy) than the things you actually did
