Throughout many years of "The Ride to Conquer Cancer," Yesterday, June 16 shortly after 10:00am a 16 year old rider was hit by a car while trying to pass a group of people was tragically killed at the scene.

The Teen cyclist, who's name is preferred not to be released on the media at this time, lived in Victoria, British Columbia and went to Pacific Christian School. He was a true athlete who loved to sail, run, swim and especially loved to be on a bike. In fact, during school he would "wonder through the hallways" and come back remarkably sweaty and have a bike helmet outline on his forehead; he was constantly on his bike.
“As a faith community we offer up our prayers and practical help to assist his family during this difficult time. It is our desire to comfort and support them as they deal with the loss of a son and brother,” the school posted on their Facebook page.
Paramedics tried for 40 minutes to revive the rider but it was to late, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“What I’ve read on certain articles was that he basically was trying to pass ... but he was in no way in the wrong,” an emotional Devine said. “He wasn’t passing erratically, he wasn’t biking erratically.”
This was the first fatal crash at the "Ride to Conquer Cancer" in history and all riders who participated are deeply saddened.

Although this young man wasn't part of the mountain bike community, it is still a tragic loss in the cyclist community. He was a good friend of mine, always smiling and laughing yet very easy going and mature; something you don't see in an every-day grade 10 boy. Rest in Peace
