How did #1 and #3 even happen?! Either their Avids finally decided to work after pumping them all the way down the mtn or they are absolutely horrible at feathering..
  • 53 0
Looks like the kid freaked out at the size of the gap?
  • 55 0
A moment of hesitation and there you go...
  • 52 20
haha I love the dig at Avids, I have seriously never ridden a worse and more underpowered brake than Avid elixirs [and juicys] in my life, shockingly bad!
  • 45 22
you obviously have never used formula's.

flag cikudh (Jan 17, 2014 at 1:28) (Below Threshold)
i had the same experience with #1 vid... my avid actually decided to work on the edge of drop and i head slammed .. neck injured 1 month, then went for XT brakes
  • 52 7
 Shimano's all the way!!!!!
  • 110 6
@cikudh NO. You were pulling your brakes at THE EDGE OF A DROP. Avids were not to blame, your hesitation and lack of confidence in your ablility is to blame.
  • 11 2
@dtrainmiller - that is correct... are they seriously worse? yikes! Saints and Hope V2/4's are super powerful brakes and definitely set the benchmark, especially with the quality of the Hopes
  • 16 1
S'funny, never had any problems with Elixer R's ?... always well bled, and running Teflon pads from Superstar, and seem more than adequate... granted, don't use the brakes to much anyway, unlike most of these fellas ;-) Great feature though, keep em coming...
  • 8 0
I think #3 was hang five attempt
  • 34 13
Funny ive never had a single issue with avid brakes. Although maybe some retards just dont know how to service their own things Wink we call you guys LBC Junkies where I'm from!! Lol
  • 30 1
ok retards is a little far, but i have nothing against avid brakes. have any of you avid haters ever ridden code r's? i havnt had to bleed them in two years.
  • 14 5
Yea your right there bud, my mates a proper retard because he can't service his own XTR brakes on his carbon Bronson, which is all paid for by his profession in law.......total retard!!

pfft, lawyer is just another way to say he's a stupid idiot Wink . Some of those falls were baffling but hey, we all make at least one incredibly poor decision while riding... take me back in HS for example trying to step off my bike over a road gap www.newschoolers.com/membervideo/51629.0/Re-post--better-quality?s=20023&t=6&o=8
  • 6 1
Yay.... I got Elixer R, the same on my third bike, 3 years riding and never had single problem with them....
  • 3 1
I had the internals of three avid elixir CRs burst on my last bike, then ditched them to get hope v2s which never have me a problem. Hopefully the codes on my new bike won't be the same
  • 3 1
why would they decide to grab the front brake as hard as they could going at those speeds? At least feather it if you need to use the front...
  • 20 0
 I'am #3 and yes i have Avids
  • 5 1
I've never had a single issue with the X9 on my Faith. Not sure what the fuss over Avid is about.
  • 1 3
I run elixir 9s on my trail bike and there shit got a code and a trail on small dh bike and there not bad but the formulas on my bike dh bike are unbelievable compared.
  • 20 1
Avid's worst feature: not idiot proof.
  • 4 0
^ this guy is right ^

#1 Looks like a nightmare
  • 4 2
Also after the first burst I went to the avid tent and the guy said "it's a common problem, we can't do anything about it". Bad customer service too
  • 3 0
Codes are good, my friend got them on his DH bike and he said they're the best brake he's ever had, and elixers aren't THAT bad, I haven't had any trouble yet, everybody is correct, juices SUCK!!
  • 1 9
flag oreo1700 (Jan 17, 2014 at 9:21) (Below Threshold)
You shouldn't be using those breaks for dh.
  • 2 1
I have codes and i have never had a problem with them. except that one time that the pads wore down to nothing and i ate shit. other than that though..
  • 24 0
 I ride v brakes yo
  • 3 4
I have Elixirs and I have never had a problem with them...except that one time when they faded out on a steep decent and I ate shit. Other than that, and having to bleed every single pair that came on our new bikes and warrantying 100 pair a year, I've had no problems.
  • 1 4
#3 or #5 should win. But good luck actually getting the bag to who ever wins Wink
  • 3 1
I have always had avid brakes. The elixirs may be under powered, but they do not decide to randomly eject there riders.
  • 7 0
I've got avid brakes....only ever use them to stop to sign autographs
  • 5 0
 Xt is where its it
  • 2 0
It's not a whole range of avid ... I was on avid juicy.3 and it it failed ... lmao you guys knows it
  • 3 0
If this is anything like sequence Saturday.. Don't expect to be told you won or get your bag until at least this December. I won last march and I'm still waiting for it.
  • 4 1
You cannot get better than Hope's lets be honest, all you crazies talkin about shimano's, come oooooon!
  • 2 0
Indeed this is true. The Tech series are awesome. Although I have a limited number of internal organs I could sell to buy a set.
  • 2 0
Well im running a slope bike so the short trigger on the XT is perfect
  • 2 1
Hope's are an investment though, an investment in safety, and you won't need to replace them for a looooong time, they'll stay reliable...best money i've spent on my bike, aside of my 40's... Smile I have just the one kidney now...
  • 3 1
Maybe someday, there will be a pinkbike post in which the comment section does not turn into a brake debate.
  • 3 1
I disagree, i'm glad it's about brakes, normally it's a fucking stupid debate about wheelsize and about how it's supposedly better to be 29er and all the related bullshit that goes with 29er territory.
  • 7 0
Sorry I don't buy it... Yes avid are pretty terrible but that is just rider error. Why would anyone ever grab a handful of front brake 2ft from the edge of a 10 ft drop?
  • 3 0
Or you are just lucky you have avids that work... The last pair I ordered was so bad that the levers got stuck in on the first pull. Lucky I work at a machine shop. I was able to pull them apart, measure and fix the internals myself. Turns out the piston inside the master cylinder was oversized by about. 002. That was the second time that had happened to me with avid. Just invested in some zee brakes so hopefully brake worry days are behind me
  • 2 0
Zee's are sweet as! My mate has them, though there's not really a lot of difference between the zees and the deores though. except the price.
  • 1 0
Shim zee's n Saint look nice, but never tried them. Hopes are bombproof tho, not so sure about the new Tech3 design tho, seems to have gone back a few steps to the old school fat res jutting out the top of the master cylinder. might be performance related i guess, not as pretty as the previous X, M and V series. is it easy to get a hold of hope stuff in US n Canada?
  • 1 0
@turqoise. Same here, I won the last one and haven't seen it yet. Well no loss no gain, I can't complain.
  • 1 0
Yeah I was considering deores cuz they are incredible value. Just not sure they could hang with the type of riding we do around here. Lots of 5-10 mile descents where we are losing close to 1000m with steep chutes. I've just had too many close calls with brake fade on the avids. I have some riding buddies who now swear by the zees, and at $129 per wheel on jenson still a good value.
  • 3 0
Hope V2's are like little chunks of sculptured porn perched on your bike. their form to function ratio is higher than any others. they look just as good as they work and in my experience at least hold their re-sale value better.
  • 2 0
@malathion - yeh my thought exactly when I first saw them, unbelievable power too, can hardly feel a bite point they crush the damn rotors so hard
  • 1 0
@leftCoastBurn, I have a friend who rides all the 661 mini downhill series in the forest of dean and has also never had any problems with them on more serious downhill tracks either. I use them and really, there's no noticeable difference in braking power between the deore and the zee. Apart from the fact that the zee looks all sexy and sleek and the deore doesn't. However, having had elixir r's on my genius lt I can honestly say that these little £60 a piece deore's are phenomenally better than the avid elixir r. tbh though, if it's power you're after and looking good, just go for a set of hopes I think the Hope tech 3 x2 retail for just over £110
  • 1 0
my avid exilars great ! only have it on a dj bike but it stops instantly !
  • 1 0
Whatever happened to the M6ti...?? Dark days when 6 pots go outa style! They'd stop a bus!
  • 1 0
and let the internet warriors fight.....
  • 1 0
@immacaroni, you're 51 comments too late for that one.
  • 1 0
You can blame your brakes but at the end of the day it was you bottling that caused you to crash.
  • 3 0
Stop commenting on brakes! I'm tired of getting a notification every hour!!!!!
  • 2 0
 u mad?
  • 71 1
this sport is dangerous,I`d better just sit on my chair and refresh PB 24/7 :3
  • 54 1
#4 "who the f*ck said last run?" hahaha
  • 5 2
Never say last run... Shall we go again?
  • 1 3
Dude, good catch, I didn't hear that the first time. That's pretty funny. That's why we always say "second to last"

That might put it over the top. #1 and #3 don't get it, cause the reason they crashed was because they hit their brakes.

I really like the groaning on #2, and the closing comment on #4 was awesome.

Either 2 or 4 should win
  • 1 0
Wouldn't #1 or #3 be more qualified because they hit their brakes? I thought the point of "Fail of the Month" would be the videos that leave you wondering "WTF were you thinking?" or something of the sort. The guys who just cased or leaned wrong seem a little mundane in comparison.
  • 2 0
True, but I don't think anyone should win a prize for hitting the brakes.
  • 11 0
This is a good feature, as long as we don't see anybody get too seriously hurt. #1 has it for me as it was so unexpected, it was a big drop, and he was ok! Apparently he braked at the last minute due to his chain device jamming.
  • 13 0
my buddy goes boom infront of me in Schladming, ugly one!
www.pinkbike.com/video/317258
  • 4 1
Damn, that's a pretty good one! You would win if you were in this week
  • 9 0
So the front flip is the trick to learn in 2014
  • 2 0
You mean front flip of a drop!
  • 8 0
love a bit of publicity. looks like 'who the fuck said last run' is gonna go with me to the grave haha
  • 5 0
Good luck getting your prize from Evoc, I won on a sequence Sunday comment a year or two back and never got sh!t.
  • 4 0
 Are you kidding me?

I'm still waiting on my bag from sequence Saturday...

Com'on Scottsecco where is MY bag??
  • 1 0
@scottsecco same here! What gives, where are the prizes from sequence Saturday???
  • 1 0
avids are good enough for me i dont plan on using them to often those high end brakes are for sponsored riders and guys that like to run them hot to the bottom lol id rather spend my cash on suspension tires tires tires and season passes and more tires those dam soft rubber comps just keep ripping off the side nobs
  • 6 0
 #5 kick ass eject Razz
  • 2 0
Spy cars come standard with them. Lol
  • 2 0
The seat was also one more pain in the ass!!!
  • 2 0
I've never seen a more violent rebound. Did his front tire even touch the ground? Hahahahaha.
  • 4 0
i wonder if evoc will actually give them their prize , I've been waiting since june last year !!!
  • 2 0
#1 has the award for me, what ever the reason for it its the one that made me laugh the most! Hope he wasn't hurt though! Great feature PB-YBF-RudeTube fails! I want more!
  • 1 0
everyone rips Avid but my elixirs haven't failed me once and I've had them for 18 months and haven't bled them once, just make sure they are clean around the seals and moving parts...
  • 1 0
Bithc... Shut the Fukc up... You don't have time to put pics and all that but you have time to comment negative shit in all the videos on PB? Please YOU ARE A LOSER PLAIN AND SIMPLE...
  • 5 0
 More of this please.
  • 4 0
 Yeah, great new series!
  • 1 1
Some of the comments in this thread are quite funny. thanks for the chuckle --

l dont know the riders in the videos for Adam but it sure seems some of them were in waaay over their, riding with big-balls instead of brains.

Some of the peeps are lucky they're not stuck laying in a bed for the rest of their life (those crashes could have ended up really bad).
  • 4 1
I love these fails. Keep posting such good suff Big Grin
  • 5 1
 Wow.. #5 is nuts!
  • 4 0
#5 looks like some mystical force threw him in the air, and still my friend is claiming you have to land on your rear wheel first
  • 6 0
#5 might wanna look at the slow speed rebound setting on that rear shock. Not that it was a good landing, but still.
  • 3 0
#5.. if it the shock, most probably wrong rebound setting or shock just blew ... OR just simply error
  • 1 0
looks like he overshot it landed manual and his rear hit the rear wheel and bucked him forward
  • 2 0
#1 is at Lenggries Bikepark in Bavaria, its on their 'big drop' line. Kid bottled it big time, ouch.
  • 1 0
I rode next to the big drop on #2 when it happend, he didn't look OK...
Later on i failed that drop too, luckily at the end of the week Smile
  • 1 0
That was pretty painful to watch, fails indeed. Glad these guys were trying new things and pushing themselves though, get after it yall!
  • 2 0
#1...A drop?Let´s do a frontflip without the bike
  • 3 1
Why does everyone hate on Avid's? They stop you don't they?
  • 1 0
My Juicy 5's have been have been trouble free for 5 years on a couple of different dh bikes. Also no probs with 3's on dj bikes. And I'm alive because of them!
  • 2 0
moral of the story: go faster
  • 2 0
After watching #5 i have to re-set up my rear suspension!!
  • 1 0
4# I have the taco wheel in the shed haha don't know why maybe a bit of memory
  • 1 1
What are we watching here dumbass! It's about "CRASH" right? We are not watching me doing your mom here. It's about CRASH STUPID
  • 3 0
 Why the italics ?
  • 2 1
#4, yes guys, rocking the fail of the month, i feel privileged to have done this well, haha. as they say, no pain no gain
  • 2 0
hahaha rockin the #4 guys, they do say no pain no gain
  • 2 0
#1 for sure. "Oh shit, I'm not that good!"
  • 2 0
Those "failures" definately need the Evoc Protector stuff!
  • 2 0
#1... how is that kid not dead
  • 2 0
Finally! Somebody who appreciates and awards our pain!!
  • 1 1
These are perfect - most videos make it look so easy - these add a dose of reality. These fails are exactly what I picture in my mind if I were to try some of these things.
  • 1 0
I don't wanna end up like #5. Is there a good rule of thumb for % rebound and drop feet?
  • 1 0
And I thought #3 was gonna be an awesome front flip!
  • 1 0
 Detach front brake before drops
  • 1 1
 #1 MEOW, #2 bad technique(bars turned), #3 MEOW, #4 came up short, #5 MEOW...
  • 1 0
man, I'm kinda worried about this stuff happening to me now
  • 1 0
I vote number three. Dang wind!
  • 1 0
You've got to have hope in your life !!!!!!!
  • 1 0
 Someone forgot their " / i >"
  • 2 0
 #2.. wind sucks.
  • 1 0
I am not sure what exactly went wrong there.
  • 1 0
Just from the way the course tape was whipping around.. it was not a calm day.
  • 1 0
It looks like he landed with his bars turned a bit, maybe he was compensating for the wind and just made a little mistake. This one freaks me out because it makes me picture that happening to me the first time I try a drop that big. But that's probably not for a while..
  • 1 0
 why is everything in italics
  • 1 0
Nothing is in Italics on mine...
  • 1 0
i think anyone is free to drop as they please!!!
  • 2 0
 Thanks PB! : )
  • 2 0
 'fuck me aiden'
  • 1 0
Not sure if I want to win this one or not

 3 please!
  • 1 2
 #5 ! By far the funnyest !
  • 1 1
 # 5 for me is the best.
  • 1 4
If you look at the first one closely, one of the slats in the bridge is broken, and his wheel catches in the hole created!
  • 1 0
he probably broke the slat pulling the front brake on that so,lol
  • 2 0
Wrong, his rear tire lifts before the front tire turns, MEOW!
  • 2 1
FFS it was only a joke, do you really think you could break a slat putting your front brake on,
  • 1 0
@mark3, my reply was to DH-Jonny
  • 3 1
sorry shredward, my mistake, I misread your comment, please accept my apology,
