Freehub Magazine in association with Pinkbike.com, Art Barn Film and Cycle Devinci went on a journey in this one-off episode to showcase a portion of the mountain biking culture in British Columbia. This episode conveys the strength of one BC mountain bike community that helps drive and fuel modern riding. ‘BC Builders’ expresses the process, passion, and function behind building and riding on progressive trails at a professional level. The intention was to capture the power and fulfillment of both builder and rider in the quest for creating and riding new terrain. Retallack Lodge was the perfect venue as they are currently building a new trail system that helps support both the local bike scene and the mountain biking community as a whole. Take a look at the people that help make this all possible.

is it easy to get a permission to cut down all those trees? because in Poland if you cut down a tree you have to pay 10 times the worth of it or something like that. what people arent aware of and is a kind of a "death law" (a law nobody restricts) you can't even take out the branches and tree parts outside the forest even if they were on the ground
  • 5 0
Well you try not to cut down trees. Build the trail around them. Not gonna fall a huge ass live tree for a bike trail. Usually only cut them down if theyre dead but still standing because it will most likely fall on the trail one day and you'll have to cut it out anyways.

All I have to say is killer! Sunset shot... damn my eyes!! I almost cried I miss it that much....

But one question... how many times do they have to mention "outside Nelson BC"? It aint "just outside" Balfour is just outside, or even Kaslo is just outside but Retallack... is "just down the road":-)

Powerslave is in Retallack's tenure, but you actually fly out of Nelson and end pretty close to town as well. Hence, outside of Nelson BC. That said, it's a sketchy ride out in the dark down the highway if you take your time and shoot too many photos/video...

i heard losing keys on powerslave is a pretty popular thing to do as well

Powerslave is right outside nelson but nowhere near retallick. A little confusing as one photo indicates he's riding "powerslave" in Retallick's land tenure, unless they also have tenure up giveout creek road where powerslave is or they have named a "new" powerslave trail at Retallick?
  • 2 0
from what i understand, the trail (or at least parts of it) is in their tenure--their tenure is big. And if anyone finds a set of keys on it, send me a message.

What a perfect video. I enjoyed everything on it. Nice interviews and watch Ian was an awesome end. Refreshing, compared to other videos. I only wish i could build a trail legally like those guys.

So cool to "meet" the trail builders. Neat to see their appearance in movies like Strength in Numbers, and then see a nice follow-up interview like this. I'd really enjoy more of these.

Make a shirt with a trail building theme and the text "powerslave".
i'll wear it when im going to the pub, people will come up to me and say "powerslave? that's iron maiden, right?" then i'll say " no, it's a mountainbike trail! MOAHAHAHAHA!!!! (really evil laugh)"
