Pre-Christmas Ride with Joe Roberts - Video

by George Milner

With Christmas fastly approaching I decided there was time for just one more edit before the festivity's began, so I spent some time with local pinner Joe Roberts in the woods close to my house filming and taking a few pictures... I hope you like the results.

Joe boosting out of something typical of British winter riding.. a wet, loamy turn.
Something new coming soon in video form.
Getting some style thrown down.
Something new in video form coming soon.
All hunched up approaching the next of many corners.
Me Fiming with the small HD DP6 Field monitor.
Here's one of me filming Joe getting steezy with my SmallHD DP6 field monitor

Video time...

Well done for the vid George. It's a great tune that works, that's why it gets used! Would you guys like it if photos or a vid was put on of you, and all people talked of were ' hey, do ya think that dudes helmet looks a bit slack'? I know you're instantly opening yourself up to a society of bitchers & moaners when you post a vid or photo, but it would be better if we talked constructively of the riding and the quality of the vid rather than the frame size of the bike.

I agree. His bike looks far too small for him. Like the photos.

There is no such thing as a DH bike that is too small (within reason).. people dont realise what you can get away with, and dont realise the advantages of having a smaller frame, its like bar width, just a personal preference.

flag themountainbikeking Plus (Dec 21, 2011 at 10:48)
Sorry but I strongly dis-agree. A DH bike that fits is pretty vital. What are the advantages of having a frame that is too small for DH? Wouldn't say frame size is a personal preference, more a personal fit.

Totally agree with you man, it like to ride little bikes (even though i'm small) and I still go faster than my bigger mates riding big fat glorys when I am riding my little stinky primo or my specialized status Big Grin

I think it could be the bars being so low he seems hunched over the front. but if it feels comfortable for him...

how can you say thats theres no such thing as a sdmall dh frame? i have recently changed frames because i realised it was too small after looking at photos and video footage, when you jump on a bike that fits you, you instantly feel kind of less bunched up. if that makes sense.

i aggree smaller frames are fun to ride because there nimble and well, small. but if you want to go fast then get a bike that fits.

flag spudreau (Dec 21, 2011 at 11:49)
I didn't really pay attention to the frame size, but more the activity of the rear suspension. I would hazard a guess he likes his suspension settings to be rather stiff with fast rebound. The rear sus didn't look as compliant as it could be, often spiking corners/lips. Always a trade off with pedaling/track of course, but it looked like he was working harder then maybe he needed to at times.

You guys arnt the one riding the bike, so quit criticising how his bike is too small for him. Unless your the rider, you don't know jack shit.

Im 6ft 1" - ride on a small DH frame and have never felt bunched up or less capable because of it.

Im not criticising anyone SJ-tinsley so dont criticise me.

Yeah i think as long as a bikes not to small within reason its fine.. a frame thats slightly to small is much more fun to chuck around but far less stable... all down to your riding style really.. i prefer a medium frame because of the better stability it offers.... like anoth person said earlier, all down to preferance.

Wheelbase, reach or effective top tube length are the important numbers in fitting.

HOJJJ- i wasn't criticizing you, your comment was fine, you wern't moaning about how he shouldn't be riding a bigger frame, it was aimed at other people saying negative things about small frames and big riders.
