He pulls the goggles over his eyes, he can feel the pounding of his heart, but inside his head it’s just white noise. He opens his eyes to see out of the start gate with perfect clarity. His only focus is getting it right, getting the job done.
These are the feelings Joel Willis has every time he has a number pinned on his back. But when the clock is off, it’s all about the freedom of riding, the exhilaration of balancing precariously between speed and risk. The feeling of being unlimited.
