OLI DA COSTA Oli da Costa moved into video production and post-production 16 years ago, filming, editing and creating motion graphics for film, TV and online under his company, Fraktiv. PAUL RAK Hey, I’m Paul Rak. I live in North Van BC and constantly move between Whistler and my home. I travel the world, I ride bikes and I occasionally work as a professional spectator. I’m a fan of viewing and filming any two wheeled adventures and most recently acted as head judge for the Red Bull Rampage.
SCOTT SECCO Scott Secco is the director of Builder and a contributing editor on Pinkbike.com. A GoPro user in many of his own projects, he brings a discerning eye to the contest jury.

WHAT A SHAME he won the monthly contest and not the overall ? ? (or is it possible to win both win one video?) this guy ROCK$ he got so robbed previous contest, he sould have won there too... www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF3KIlTfuY0
I had a great time watching these videos, but I really don't understand the "Beauty and Lighting" category. I was actually floored by the scenery in the Capt Ahab video, but it got the same score from Secco as "The Paddock" video? Maybe I just don't understand what that category represents.
Anyone know if the wearable gimbals can be pointed down but stay steady? I've only seen them used on chest mounts- if it was on my lid I would want it pointing down slightly rather than being dead level. Tried looking online but I can't seem to find this out without buying one!
It's the stupid thing YouTube has been doing lately.. It gives you a "Your video may be shaky. Would you like to try our video stabilizer?" notification, and it keeps the box with "Yes" checked, unless you uncheck it. It's really inconvenient and makes the videos look bad
Thanks for the info! I'm wanting one now! @NR8productions l looked at some of the wearable gimbals, looks like you can mount the GoPro tilted forward with a wedge or something, but doesn't appear you can get the gimbal to tilt forward itself, not sure if that makes sense. I looked at some biking vids filmed with chest mount gimbal and looks awesome! I don't know if the YouTube anti shake feature would do that good of a job.
Kolbi's gimbal makes video nice from a chest mount. Really nice!
But it died when we were riding Portal.
Shame.
They make them too sensitive and light to survive the thrashing we give them.
According to this video www.youtube.com/watch?v=59eOInPKH14 (around the 2 minutes mark), yes you can point them anywhere and it will keep pointing that way.
I don't envy the judges, but I think the process wins out with the average. Lots of cool stuff this month and stoked to get a nod for my vid. Dylan's was my favorite because it's badass and not contrived...and I'm jealous of people who can float backflips. I've gotta step it up to earn Secco's performance & style points
Any of the Rampage pov's would've crushed. Why didn't we see any of that?
"dialed it for the video"...I think knapton meant he made sure the already built trail was spot on for this video. I'd have to say it was a tie between him and Fabio for me. Totally different video, but both equally sick riding!
Ive seen them used in MTX to better effect- I don't think he needed a gimbal for that particular clip as it was quite slow and technical and you would have been able to see it fine without one, but when the rider is going really fast I think the benefits are much greater. You can actually make a bit more sense of what's going on!
