Danny MacAskill shows you what it's like along the rooftops of Gran Canaria in full 360 degree views. Look around as Danny shows you views you've never seen before while riding his bike.
Special thanks to the wonderful people of Gran Canaria who opened their homes to us and helped make this project a reality. Muchas gracias a la gente de Gran Canaria por tu hospitalidad!
Just a tip: maybe people know this but.... If you are viewing on an iOS device open the video in the YouTube app. The 360 video doesn't work for me on embedded videos. When it's in the YouTube app the video reacts to my iPad or iPhone and as I move them around I can view different angles as though it's VR.
Two words. Google Cardboard. If you have one, watch this in the google cardboard app, it splits it into stereoscopic for left and right eyes, and the lenses remove the distortion.
I agree these videos suck just watching them as a spherical video, but with the simple Google Cardboard apparatus, you have pretty good VR. You can look all around just by turning your head and you actually get some feeling of being there. It's pretty awesome. There's a really cool Everest climbing video by Jaunt too. There's a good amount of other videos on the YouTube 360 channel. It's definitely not worth the $100 for a Samsung VR to watch it, but for only about $15 for the same experience, the Google Cardboard is pretty cool.
Cool concept but lots of people don't get it. In this case I think the production is not really good for 2 reasons: - the cameras are mounted too far from the eyes so it's disconnected from the action. To works better they should have mounted the camera at the same height than Danny's eyes. - it's filmed with multiple cameras that are stitched together and it doesn't work well with such a big open space. there's is some parallax issues and it does create some jelly effect. I think with the time we'll see better 360 production BTW, you can check what I have been shooting with my 360 camera: www.thenewburo.com/thecms/?page_id=2331
Good videos!
The first one with Nicholas was rad, then the BMX track came out good as you could see the other riders!
But overall the 360 view is a tad funky and you have done a good job making it look cool!
RideOn!
That was boring as hell. No wonder they hadn't released that previously. Here is the side of some buildings. Here are some cars parked on the roof. Here are some more sides of buildings. The end.
It took me a couple views to understand this. For those who don't get it, click on the arrows in the upper left-hand corner of the display to move the camera around. I'm watching it from a desktop computer with a Chrome browse. I don't know if it works on mobile devices. Once you know how to do it, it's actually pretty cool.
I have had GoPro's since the start and love them. However, I first saw this stuff from 360 Fly and now looking at this footage I really don't get it......maybe I am not looking at it correctly......am I supposed to move my cursor around to get different views? From my perspective, this POV stuff has officially jumped the shark......
Load it up in youtube. You should get a notice if your browser doesn't support it, below the video. Ironically, it works here for me with FireFox but not at youtube..
not the best 360 video around, i was expecting alot more from that - I like the 360 stuff, I am sure headsets make it better experience, either way its pretty awesome tech and certainly adds new dimensions but it has to be used wisely and not for gimmicks sake
Danny is a great rider and a great kid at every angle. Is funny the people walking on the streets, completely ignoring the legend. They just don't deserve to be there.
The other hard thing is you have to turn as quick as he does. There's a part where he turns quickly and I lost where he went.
