Pan-American Downhill Championships 2016 - Video

The 2016 Panamerican DH Championships took place in Cusco, Peru at the Huaccoto Dh track, starting at more than 4000 meters / 14000 ft high, where the oxygen level is very poor and athletes have to fight with his lungs to catch a breath and with his own minds to control "el Soroche" The high altitude illness, that commonly affects every mortal who dares to walk or run on the mountains at that level.

Cusco is the wonderland of the Inca's and is very well known for Machu Picchu the Stone citadel above the clouds and considered like one of the new 7 wonders of the World, the colorful culture and the tasty local food make this place the perfect escape for tourism but the amazing landscapes and the huge web systems of trails the Inca's leave us like an heritage make this place a mountain bike paradise and the perfect destination for any serious mountain biker, Peru have one of the biggest mountain range of the planet the Andes.

The trail at Huaccoto is very hard and was a good challenge for all the racers who came from North, Central and South America, they had to negotiate with big gaps, a lot of rock gardens and huge ramps on a very tough and long track for more than 5 minutes.

The 2016 Panamerican Champion Title was decided in a very tight battle between Roger Vieira from Brasil and Gustavo "Guga" Ortiz from Chile. The Brazilian racer sprinted a little bit stronger on the finish line and won the race for 2 seconds with a 5:13.00 time. Third place was for Mauricio "Taka" Acuña from Chile and the Fourth place was for Matheus Braian the next Downhill rising star from Brazil who also won the the Junior category.

 Peru is a paradise for mountain biking the whole country is crossed by the Andes mountain range and our ancestors the Inca's left us more than 30,000 kms of trails on it!
