Video: Enduro World Series Round One, Punta Ala
Get on it mate, doesn't require a carbon superbike. Grab a HT with some 140mm+ forks and give it a go. The whole point of enduro is that it is open to anyone so some of the easier smaller local races you could probably do on your XC bike anyway.

Turboute- Just checked and your right... Thought he won his first world champs before then tbh! Still did a cracking job on the Orange and won the world cup series in 2001 aboard the old 222.

I know that Greg Minaar won junior worlds on a patriot for global racing back at the turn of the millennium. As far as nationals go it was rare to see a podium anywhere in the UK without an Orange on it between 2004-2009. The 224 was bike of choice for many a privateer in those years. Recently they have been a little behind on the DH scene but Joe Barnes has been piloting the 5 to a great number of podiums in enduro for a couple of years. Say what you like about Oranges but they are a succesful racing brand and a long way ahead of many more mainstream companies.
