by Highland Mountain Bike Park
Highland Mountain Bike Park, America’s Bike Park is gearing up for another exceptional season, opening its doors to season pass holders on Thursday May 3rd and to everyone else on Friday May 4th. Season Pass holders will get first tracks on Highland’s newest work of art, Bonesaw, a hand crafted dirt rollercoaster that is the mastermind of Highland’s trail crew. “Bonesaw is our most recent offering catering to the advanced riders who demand a more challenging trail,” explains Trail Crew Manager, Tom Lepesqueur. “Meshing the old school, hand built style and wood features with a machine built structure and tons of flow, the trail will keep you on your toes and laughing the whole way down. Bonesaw delivers.”

In true Highland fashion, new trails are not the only new thing on the docket this season- Highland continues their dedication to building the most progressive park in the country with the addition of a 50’ x 50’ Bag Jump to their already extensive Highland Training Center. The “Ayr Bag” will find its home at the base of the world famous Claymore Challenge Course. “The Ayr Bag just makes sense,” says Red Bull/Cannondale pro rider Aaron Chase, who was instrumental in making the Ayr Bag a reality. “Red Bull and Highland partnering was just the next natural step. Both companies are dedicated to progression and taking the sport to the next level for both the pro athletes and the riders next in line. Raise a Red Bull to these guys.”

Once again for 2012- Highland has jam-packed their event and camp calendar with the old favorites and some new exciting events!

The 5th Annual Claymore Challenge - July 20th-22nd- A Gold level stop on the FMB World Tour the Claymore is arguably a favorite stop of the pro tour. Watch the top pros throw down for over $20,000 in cash on the Dave Smutok designed course! Who will take in victorious dip in McCaul’s pond and walk away as the newest “knight” of HMBP?

Battle Of Hellion- August 26th - Back for it’s second year, the Battle of Hellion takes the endurance of racing with the fun of freeride as racers accelerate down Highland’s signature jump trail, Hellion.

Cannondale OverMountain Enduro Challenge - October 20th- In 2011 Highland worked with Enduro pro racer Mark Weir to design this challenging and fun race where riders are faced with a number of climbs and fast speed, glade style downhills in this 3 stage race to compete for over $10,000 in cash! Open to all levels and abilities!

S’ender Bash- November 17th - What other way to say good bye to an amazing season- then throw a HUGE party and Highland Mountain can throw a party like none other! In 2011 the lodge transformed into a fraternity, Animal House style- one can only wonder what 2012 will bring!

With only days to go before the lift is spinning, the Highland crew is working in full force, grooming trails, stocking shelves and waiting for the first riders of the season. Season Passes and camps are on sale- so what are you waiting for? Come visit America’s Bike Park, Highland Mountain Bike Park.

This looks more appealing to me then whistler!
  • 11 4
Haha, the nightlife doesn't compare but on the weekdays the mountain is empty with no lines and that's not something you can do at Whistler.
  • 18 2
Highland is a 5 hours ride for me compared to whistler which is 5 days. Definitely more appealing! Seriously though, if you haven't been, just go. Tons of fun garanteed, regardless of your riding skill level. Spent a 3 days weekend there last year. We had so much fun we're planning on going back as often as we can this year.
  • 3 2
Yeah I guess so! But nothing compares to a couple of beers with mates!
  • 22 1
Except an awesome day spent riding with the said mates!

Whats the area like? Does it have a little village at the bottom like tremblent or whistler?
  • 7 0
It's central NH sooo there's not going to be much going on and there's no village. Highland isn't out in the sticks by any means but Whistler's village makes even Waterville's look pathetic. Regardless though you've got Tilton right down the road and Plymouth and Concord within easy driving distances so you can def. find something to do. Plymouth is a bit farther away than Concord is (30-40 min. drive from Highland) but I attended the University there for a year and Plymouth is way more fun than Concord or Tilton, although it doesn't have certain "city" aspects. It's a nice little college town with a "main street" that's filled with bars and late night eateries with deals like 1.00 ultimate hot dogs. If you do a little research on the area you're sure to find a lot of stuff I haven't mentioned.

I feel very lucky to live less than 30min away and to have a season's pass, can't wait for Thursday! With that said I also hope the weather dries up a bit considering its pouring out and has been all day!
  • 2 0
Best vibes, best trail crew. if u want to vacation to rideur bike then go. You should go to highland and enjoy every minute u have there, it is mtn bike culture with no bullshit. Camp in the lot, enjoy the fruits of the labors of the highland staff. If u want lame corporate apres parties go to a corporate resort. Not hating, just saying, I feel like every chance I have to ride there is time well spent. Priority one is ripping every trail they have, raging shop talk is second. Place rips it up.

This mountain is the shit ! If you haven't been and you're within a decent driving distance then go ! Or else you're missing out big time !
  • 2 1
Highland is about 5 hours from where I am in Montreal. I did not have the chance to go last year but people have been telling me it's really such a great place to ride. I checked some vids on youtube and indeed it looks rather rad. I'll go this summer and then continue to Boston to close out the week. Can't wait.

Back on topic....Highland is a great place to ride and enjoy. Mark is a great guy and passionate about helping out the ride scene. I have been going there since they first opened. I am about 3 hours or so away and try to get up several times a year. The mountain trails have gotten so much better over the last few years. There is something for everyone and every ability. They have a great lodge with great food, beverages and ...really good beers ! Mark always goofs on me when I show up with one of my burly, big travel, old school Brooklyns to bash the day away with. Some times the lift lines are a bit long and other times it is up and down non-stop. Jumps, drops, ladders, berms, steeps, singletrack, jump park area, training facility, if you can get there....get there....and if you can't...try and get there !! You will be glad you got the chance to ride the place. While there are no 14 minute big mountain runs, the smile per mile factor is HUGE !! Thanks again Mark !! See ya soon !

I love Highland! I, as well as everyone I ride with there, considers it their home. I feel like a part of the place, and I feel like it has become a part of me too.
  • 2 1
Jeez why can't we put "Highland Bike Park New Hampshire Gears up for Season" in the main article? It isn't until the last paragraph that I found it was outside of Boston.

Is Highland full DH rig country or better if you have a 6-7 FR bike?
  • 5 1
 Both.
  • 3 1
I've done it all on a 6" AM bike, the FR bike can do it all for sure. Some parts of Threshold might be a little hairy but thats the most DH oriented trail.
  • 3 1
Went there with a 8" (set ultra plush for local trails) last year and I thought it was an overkill. I wish I had less suspension. Still had a lot of fun but I didn't feel like a 8" was best suited for that terrain. Lots of jumping/berms and most trail are really smooth and flowy.

If you have a bmx/dj bike bring it too, they have amazing dj setups, not just trails.
  • 3 2
went there with 9 inch rear travel bike in pouring rain had an awesome time
  • 2 0
My daughter does it on a 4" travel bike. She's not that great but she does it.
  • 1 0
I have ridden most of the mountain on my DJ. It's white knukle riding, but totally doable. Very flowy, cant wait to try out my KHS velvet- never had full suspension!
  • 2 1
got my trip planned..love that place!
  • 1 0
Why cant the have something like this IN THE UK!
  • 1 0
because you have not organized it! Make it happen dude! It could be your dream come true for all the UK!
  • 2 0
More to the point we have no mountains, it is super costly for land and expenses to run the place would make it fail before it ever got started. Unfortunatly that is the situation in the UK after talking to a few people in the industry when we was on about starting somewhere similar. Although if you want to try it and prove me and a few others wrong go for it.
  • 1 0
 Thats a bummer.

Loving the "through the tree" path
  • 1 0
the first time i read it i thought it said "Bonesam" not "Bonesaw".
  • 1 0
wish they would build something like this in the highlands of scotland
  • 2 0
They totally could... They have the terrain for it, it's just a shame there is not the same exposure fo this type of riding. The uk is also lacking the willingness of the authorities to do more with downhill. Shame!
  • 1 0
Why don't they build stuff like this in the UK?!!!
  • 2 1

Dude it already has happened. Seriously, we are screwed. Case in point, remember blue wed or what ever when everyone shut down their websites in protest of that bill to shut down the internets if the gov wanted to? img191.imageshack.us/img191/7118/16048439.jpg
