Pinkbike in Taiwan 2012

2012 marks the second year that Pinkbike attends the Taipei Bike Show. We arrived a day early, decided to visit the show venue and to experience a day in Taipei.

somewhere over Russia...
Blue skies above China or Russia. From this view it looks like there are some zones we definitely need to check out.

The last hurdle to cross after traveling for so many hours. Airports should have a rest area between the airplane and customs, the Automated People Mover is a nice touch though. More "Lost in Translation" to come.

welcome...
I never get sick of seeing this sign, for me it means that I am close to being home. For the Pinkbike crew it means another amazing week in Taipei. For you it means great coverage from another international trade show.

First Day
View of Taipei 101 from the top of our hotel for the week, the Far East Shangri-La.

First Day
We started Tuesday morning in the Shangri-La rooftop hot tub. Karl keeps it real and goes shorts off.

First Day
Matt Wragg has joined the Taiwan Pinkbike team. He's a little shy and managed to miss the bath robe team photo.

first day
On the left Aaron LaRocque from Pink.com is ready to rock. On the right, Aaron and Karl wait for the MRT to Nangang Exhibition Hall.

First Day
After searching for an elevator at the exhibition hall we found one big enough carry Karl to the fourth floor.

First Day
We walked around the show for a bit during set up and found some interesting placements. Giant is next to Merida and SRAM is next to Shimano. #fighting

first day
Cane Creek has been working with Straitline to make a headset compatible with their new Gyro. We were lucky enough to get a sneak peak of their combined effort, more to come on this. We were also lucky enough to help reality redesign the Cane Creek logo.

We left the show and went searching for the veritable Taiwanese experience.

First Day
We got off to a good start at the Modern Toilet. A bathroom themed restaurant in the Xin Men Ding area of Taipei.

beef curry out of a toilet. mmmm
All the meals are served on or in bathroom inspired dishes. Eating beef curry from a toilet has never tasted so good.

first day
Bikes are a popular form of transportation in Taiwan and locals can be seen riding anything and pretty much everything.

First Day
Taipei is an amazing city and we have an amazing week planned. Keep your computer locked here for all things Taipei.

Coming to you live and direct from our rooftop workstation, stay tuned!

Whoever started that restaurant has some balls. Talk about having to "commit". It looks like they put some major dough into that set up. I dont think that idea would fly in any major US city. I'm trying to imagine grabbing my fork and taking that first bite, and Ive got some short circuiting going on.. I'ld definitely stay away from anything with beef and sauce. That should add a flush handle to the toilet.

As long as they don't make an Indian bathroom themed restaurant I think the world will be okay.

Staying at a Shangri-La hotel = spoiled (as confirmed by the multiple hot tub pics and the killer view).
Isn't getting to go to Taiwan enough? I'm so jealous of you guys right now.

They didn't splash out on business class air tickets, they are right at the back. So let them have their luxury, I can't blame anyone for wanting that!

Nice. Welcome to Taiwan! The weather is pretty dreary these days, but if you can round up some bikes for saturday, we can hit up some Taipei trails. PM me if you want to ride!

interesting that they use "American" toilets as most of the toilets in China a re flat.
  • + 1
most Taiwanese are offended at the idea that they are part of China. the public toilets here are about 50% flat and 50% western, the ice cream came in the flat kind ... all private homes have western style toilets ...
