Sequence Saturday 26

Jul 13, 2012 at 6:48
by Ian Hylands
bigquotesKirt Voreis with a huge alley-oop transfer from NWD 10. Kirt and I scouted this area a fair bit, he'd found a couple of things that he wanted to build, and we were always looking for more. We rode around on moto's and mini's, sometimes walking, sometimes ending up doubled on a bike. One time I was hanging on, almost falling off the back of the TTR that Kirt was riding, and a rattlesnake struck the back of the bike, hitting the tire just inches from my leg. The bike had spooked it and it lashed out, almost nailing me.

I have a lot of sequences kicking around from the past bunch of years that will make interesting Sequence Saturdays, I'll start throwing them in now and then.

When Sequence Saturday appears on the home page, I endure a moment of excitement knowing I'm in with a chance of winning an Evoc Pack. It isn't too long until I realise all the comments I can think of are a poor quality. I guess i'm going to have to wait another week! Frown

Beer haha when i saw that alley oop i thought if i win this pack im gonna try this trick on a tricycle so i hope i dont win because its gonna hurt.Madder Madder

This shot would've been about 10 times cooler on video if the camera came between the takeoff and landing, so you watched him take off and land. Then, have the camera follow him through the berm with the dust exploding off the left side of the screen.

 Cool story bro....

Shaq called, he wants the title of biggest alley-oop back...

*David Attenborough voice* As the young healthy rider enters the habitat... He jumps through the air like a gazelle before safely returning to safe soil... From there the rider will carry on his adventures south in search for his next prey... Fearless and elegant, the rider displays just why he is able to survive in such threatening conditions...

I don't always spin to the left...... But when I do it's a HUGE alley-oop ( insert The most interesting man in the worlds voice)

@NorCrew09 *insert Morgan Freeman voice* is what I think you meant

kirt: okay, i recon the snake was around here, so for health and safety reason im just going to do a huge alley-oop over the possible spot where the snake could be as i dont want to take any big risks.

I love how there can be so many different styles of biking. One day you will get a guy rippin' it up on the downhill and then the next day you can see another rider slammin down the tricks on some dirt park jumps. I love this sport!

Hum... That whip went a little bit to far. He didnt even have time to get it back. Poor guy!

I think the caption/ Title for this photograph should be "Lost but not forgotten". The reason i say this is that it gets left in the past for new photos as cool as this one to shine through and come onn... Who could forget the awsomeness of this photo! Freeride at it's best

People once tried saying "Freeride is dead" AH..

This footage here shows it's defiantly not dead, Might be old ..along with Kirk(Speaking of ally ooops)but not dead. Creative land scape, creative bmx inspired trick and a fine description of what FREERIDE is! Shaping the open land into your playground.

This picture conjures recollections of the patina of a finely polished golden spoon: lustrous with excellent verbosity that only a giant plantain deep fried in peanut oil could understand. The geometric obscurity of the two-wheeled manga opus that is the bicycle is obscured itself by the very essence of this photographic memorialization of a giant among giants. In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king. Such grace, such platitude, such, dare I say, "stylistic embellishment." Bravo jumbo dumbo, flap your ears and fly away to the moonlit desert scape of this physionotrace portrait of pure embryonic stem-cell, the very cradle of civilization itself.

I see a sequence like this and get depressed, why don't i have trails like this near me?! I ride when I'm depressed so I go and ride, so basically I've been inspired to ride by this photo, or i just saw it and wanted to ride, either way, its pretty awesome Big Grin
Also, rattlesnakes are much like awesomeness, they strike when Ian Hylands rides

Such a sick line, I love seeing creativity and originality in both building features and then riding them...just don't fall in the snake pit.

cue onset depression due to seeing awesome mountain bike photo showing you that you'll never be this good depression makes you angry at work you are mean to everyone, you lose job and girlfriend who now thinks your a bum cause you have no job and only loved you for the money anyway which makes you hold onto your mountain bike because it always loves you thus allowing you to put your complete devotion into biking because you have nothing else to lose allowing you to bike 24/7 making you really good and thus the stars align you become pro thanks to the original awesome photo you viewed earlier.

  • 2 2
Wow, thats one long sentence dude! Very funny

The Berm Smoke at the end... is like putting a cherry on top of a cherry on top!! One of the best Sequence Saturday's to date!
  • 2 0
now this guy knows what hes talking about /\/\
  • 1 1
After analyzing the footage provided I have some rather bad news for the rider, I hate to say this does not count. He put his foot down on slide 13/18 resulting in the would be amazing trick( and me not riding my bike cause I can not do this ) unlanded. Sorry for the bad news- I am going riding now
  • 2 2
As I was staring at this I found myself intrigued by the question of who the other rider was just going out of sight at the beginning of the sequence. until i realised I should probably get more sleep. Sick though, sweet lip
  • 4 3
Kirt's mind mulled over the finer points of the coriolis effect as he approached the lip, completely oblivious to which hemisphere of the earth he was in.
  • 1 1
when i managed to do that trick it was the best feeling ever after lots of practice and ending up in a hospital bed with suspected spinal injuries, luckily i was fine though lol.
  • 3 1
He's checking his watch on second and third pic when realized, that its the right time for some epicness!!
  • 1 1
I could definitely make a great coment, but i would just pity for the guys at pinkbike if they had to send that evoc pack to argentina... so far. I know that was shoot for nwd 10, but does it actually appear in the movie?
  • 2 3
Im new to dh/freeride and with the bag i could hold spare tubes, tools, accessories,WATER,energy food and much more. That bag looks mad comfey and looks lik it sticks to you back like glue...not to mention when u wreck it adds as a back pad!
Sequence Saturdays rule!

Step one for new people to the sport: learning that Kirt Voreis is the most underrated rider in the game.
  • 1 2
Yeah, except he isn't is he, everyone knows he's good.
  • 1 0
Just good? See what I mean? There's not many names that come to mind when thinking of someone who has had that long of a career, with numerous segments in freeride movies and could ride park and dirt jumps as good as the best. He was still racing on the World Cup circuit for DH and dual slalom (with results that most would consider better than "good") while he was banging out freeride/park/dj segments and also competing at freeride events. He's not good, he's one of the legends of the sport.
  • 1 0
I don't get how people get these super involved responses for these sequences, it was awesome and that's all I have to say about that.
  • 1 0
Photographer - "Kirt, this seems pretty hard. You sure you got this?"
Kirt - "No, but I did just stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night"
  • 1 0
Just to clear up he was trying the step up but didnt have the right speed to went for a plan B. if u was a pro u would know this (my mate said to me) lol
  • 1 0
I won the price and I am willing to share it to allSmile I dont need 20Litres I just need 5litres anyone would like to swap for a smaller back pack?
  • 2 2
sequence Saturday's is legit you alway get shots that you just want to keep watching because there so awesome just like this one!!!
  • 4 2
Its jumps like these that make me want to ride!
  • 2 2
Rider says "Man, I hate it when I come up so short, the vert wall landing was another 5 bike lengths out, then it would have been smooth" Smile
  • 1 1
I`m a bit jealous, but hey, after 10 time watching this supercool sequence I also realize, there is beautiful rideable countryside also in the right part of this sequence ;-)

I still wonder ... Which incredible tricks does he merely do in the time between the visible-sequence-pictures.
Maybe a Superman and a few Double-Tailwhips?
  • 1 0
Voreis with the alley-oop and Hylands with the dunk! That's one for the highlights reel!
  • 1 0
hes probably thinking, "that dang rattler is gonna jump at me any second now" lol
  • 1 0
" Son, we would like to recruit you for the Los angles Lakers, we've never seen ally-oops as good as yours!
  • 1 0
OOOHH crap the hip goes the other way!!! O well I will just keep turning Smile
  • 1 0
when I watched this I felt like I was looking down on myself watching this.
  • 1 2
I just need a goggle that loops this sequence every night while I'm sleeping, that way I could learn how to do an alley-oop properly without breaking my bones.
(or at least I'll have a beautiful dream every night)
  • 1 0
when hes landing, hes going that fast like someone was running to him (grandpa)
  • 1 2
I may have missed it, but I have just noticed the disclaimer about props, and i must say on behalf of us fair players, thankyou for pointing out the obvious to those that seemed to find joy in mass neg propping.
  • 2 1
Screw those bushes man.. Looks like I could get a flat tire in there! Quick! Someone build a jump so I can fly over them!
  • 2 0
Cleaner alleyoop than Magic could have done!
  • 2 0
Theres more alley-oop in that than a Blake Griffin dunk!
  • 1 0
If I find this line you can guess I'll do the same thing as Voreis did...At least trying to not crash
  • 1 0
Looks like grandma cooked up the perfect mixture of steez, style, and flow!
  • 2 0
I know you guys wanna see the video too right ? Big Grin
  • 2 0
I can do that dude! one minute hold my beer.
  • 2 0
That was just Kirt Voreis coming up short on a 180 step-up...
  • 1 0
And he tricked that transfert it on his first try, this is freeriding ! (look at the tracks on the kicker)
  • 1 0
 hey i just met you
and this is dusty
but here's a rad gap
so huck it maybe?
  • 1 2
Sometimes the flow of a jump can be illustrated with a choppy sequence, totally opposite of what most people would say is possible.
  • 2 2
put this to a random song, get it on a 10 hour loop for youtube and you've got yourself the next "internet sensation"
  • 1 2
in his head: "i tried this jump about 6 six times and i realy was pissed off!! but i didnt gave up .... f*ck YEAH! (Cool pose)
  • 3 2
Clearly when he did this he was thinking "go big or go home"
  • 1 1
didn't know basketball terminology was transferable to biking....looking forward to the hack-a-shaq and buzzer beater.....
  • 1 2
This trick is awesome don't get me wrong but I I find it really annoying that whenever I watch a video you never see a rider wearing a hydration
  • 2 1
Shaq called, he wants the title of biggest alley-oop back...
  • 1 1
i dont know why everyones talking about his ally-oop xfer..who cares..look how he rips that berm..

  • 1 1

  • 3 0
I know it was shit , I really didn't have anything decent to say but thought , why not?.

Don't need to be such a blunt c*nt though.
