Ben Reid always looks fast but on this track he is flying. The Irishman loves going flat out and this is the track to do it on.

We haven t had many dry races this year but Brendan Fairclough shows what happens when you train it up and the rain stays away. The rain came in right after this was taken and the dust is now gone... but it will be back by morning.

Brooke Macdonald is on a tear this season and loose barely explains his riding style. Nothing like a 2 wheel drift on the fastest corner on the track through massive moto ruts.

Dan Atherton is back racing following a brutal neck injury and is getting back up to speed slowly but surely.

Shaun O Connor boosts the off camber rockpile. It caught a couple of riders off guard this morning and they tagged the tree in the right hand corner right after the landing. Sketchy.

Canada s Steve Smith is rocking some brand new Fox kit today thanks to Mike Redding. This track is balls to the wall just the way Stevie likes it.

Looks like they will luck out and have dry conditions for the finals unlike last weekend. Big props to dan atherton for racing at this level again after such a bad injury. Gives inspiration to us injured riders now. We all know Gwin going to shave another 8 seconds off that time so he pretty much untouchable. He's soo focused and consistent this season. Wonder if he going to carry that into next year. Usually people loose that intensity after such a winning season. If he can do it again next year we can call him the g.o.a.t. (greatest of all time) like R.C.

no one will be the G.O.A.T other than RC, gwin is my favorite rider but theres already a goat out there

Gwin will also have to win a lot more than three races in his career. two winning seasons doesn't make you the G.O.A.T. Maybe 2 perfect seasons like RC and he would be. Still awesome to see an American on top though.

Yeahaaa moto is the only way to go, always been moto on my DH sleds, rock on Brook so close, maybe Gwining it next year, give em a taste of KIWI....

Are they still on Revolts? why no Undead, whats up with that?

Great pix, nothing quite relays the focus and intenseness purity of man and his most efficient machine of DH except maybe moto, and extreme sports [ski.board etc] so much at risk vs stakes like lots of other sports for ex. win crash or die LOL..

Anyone know what fork Steve Smith and Brendan Fairclough are running? It looks like a Boxxer with nickel coated stanchions : 0
  • 1 0
smiths deffnantly looked nickle plated, however Faircloughs are the same nitrate coated ones as both hill and brosnan are running....
  • 1 0
unless they are just the domains, but that wouldnt make sence in a world cup race !
  • 1 0
They are the same ones that Fairclough, Hill, and Brosnan are running, the light is just hitting them weird.

I just realized how many guys ride their brakes moto style.
  • 1 0
mind explaining what moto style brakes is?
  • 15 0
Moto style is running the front brake on the right. We Commonwealth countries call it 'normal'.
  • 2 0
I can see how it would be more helpful especially for those who ride moto
Don't get confused and f*ck yourself over in an end lol
  • 6 0
not all commonwealth countries.. Canada is an exception
  • 4 3
How could I forget about Canada? So sorry...
  • 3 0
Ireland aint part of the 'common wealth' but we still ride are brake normal.. (front = right rear = left)
  • 8 0
It's traditionally any nation where you drive on the left, so that when turning right (crossing the line of oncoming traffic) you can signal with your right hand, and can safely use the back brake with your left.
  • 2 0
Thats a really good explanation, thanks tup
Never knew that
  • 1 0
lol .... i never knew that either. i knew it was normally the "driving on the left" countries that had it moto style, but not abou the signalling thing.

I have a good pal in italy who rides the "wrong " way and we have hours arguing which is better. he truly believes that there is a biomechanical advantage to riding with the front brake on the left. cant see it my self when so many top boys ride moto style.

anyways my moneys on gwin for this weekend

brit 100 - what about when you turn left?
  • 1 0
When you turn left, you're not crossing in front of on coming traffic, so it's less likely you'd need to brake suddenly. So, it's no so essential that you have (safer) back brake covered whilst signalling. It make sense really.
  • 2 0
I've always found the whole thing kinda funny that the rear brake is the one to be covered while signaling to cross traffic, when the front brake is the one that will stop you a lot faster. Yes, it can also flip you over, but with proper control it'll stop you a lot better. I ride moto style brake setup because I'm missing most of the two smallest fingers and the tip of my middle finger on my left hand and don't need the rear as much as the front brake, so I put the front lever in the full fingered hand.
  • 2 0
lol, at nick......you ever tried to brake with only the front brake and the other hand off the bike (doing the singalling for instance). 100% guaranteed disaster. if you need to grab brake due to an oncoming car it is gonna be in a rush and in a panic. much much safer to have it to be the back brake.
