I was thinking the same thing freeride321. It's almost as if they added the slow motion affects purposely, to give it a dramatic feel. Legends never die but they could've done a better edit.
Yep. Lopes can still rip, Nico can slay, Peaty is Peaty,.... I.e. 40+ guys riding younger than their years. Palmer never had a smooth style and always looked like he was fighting the bike. Not much different, just slower now which is no big deal since he hasn't road much in years. That said, he's not getting paid to race, he's getting paid to manage and recruit talent, so riding videos are just for fun and hype.
You guys are haters. He's on a trail bike out having fun. None of you would ever say any of this to his face. Respect to Palmer for getting back out there
He still rides plenty. Ran into him at Northstar a couple summers ago. True, he hasn't been killing it a World Cup level for all these years like a lot of his former competitors, but something tells me he could ride circles around most of us here.
Stop with your bloddy "you are hater", cause we are not... This edit is not rad at all, and it's not cause Palmer is in it that it's making it better... If you do the same edit with Remi Metailler, will be shit as well... The point is not Palmer, they've could have done a way better job.
Fun fact- he's a badass on an mx bike also. How bad ass I hear you ask? Well Mitch Payton (owner of the somewhat successful pro circuit team) said he always wanted to give him a shot on his team but it never worked out as he was always too focused on snowboarding, DH or injured. Mitch has a good eye for talent so he must have been pretty good on a dirt scooter.
Like Bliss said, there's nothing unusual about 40+ dudes being able to kill it out on the trails, but he definitely could have chosen a more challenging run, given that he's doing the big 'prodigal son returns' thing. I was half expecting to see him pass a family on rental bikes at some point.
This pallet clip just makes that Old man Peaty seem like so much more of a legend the way he rides at his tender age and still to do well in the dh season.
I saw him shredding in Tahoe. This was where that was filmed, South Lake. Guy rides fast that's fersher. I was too affraid to talk to him. He was with other friends riding lol.
It was just 2009 when Palmer came back out off the couch and freakin Qualifiied at multiple World Cup DH races.... Qualified, easily in the top 80. How many local pros have a chance at doing that.... add 12 years of not riding at all... insane!.
BUT... This trail was boring as shit to watch... fun I'm sure to ride. just nothing hard or dramatic. bad trail for video... GREAT rider.
@tadgercat, He qualified for 1 World Cup in 2009, not multiple. It was at Mont Sainte Anne (barely made the field in 76th place), he DNF'd in qualifying at Bromont which is the only other World Cup he did that year. It wasn't exactly off the couch as he started riding again a month or so before and had raced the US National Champs (12th place as I recall) before racing at MSA. For him to do what he did in 2009 was amazing in it's own right, and doesn't need to be exaggerated to seem impressive. Not trying to be a jerk to you, I just think that it's important that the sports history is remembered accurately is all.
Yep! Lopes is hardly the most loved guy in the world and doing very little at the moment racing-wise as he's coming to the end of his very long and successful career... want some names that were once big on the cheap... talk to Intense's marketing dude
@Iamwarthog He raced an ABA National in Santa Barbara in 97/98, it was covered in SNAP magazine. He won his cruiser class one day and went A Pro the next. When Palmer raced BMX it was at the time when Belt Buckle Barry Nielsen was winning everything in cruiser. Palmer wanted to prove a point/piss Nielsen off by beating him, which he did, then he turned A Pro.
erm yeah, good joke...funny
Palmers awesome, and a lot of people who never even saw him the first time round seem to think they are better riders than him, just cos he had an attitude. That pisses me off. I looked up to him, I kinda still do.
Get that man some wider bars for gods sake! Almost thought I was watching some stock footage of him riding back in his heyday for a minute. Until I saw all the slowmos and blowing up corners and realized this vid (or should I say "edit"?) could only have been made by some new school 12 year old filmer.
Jokes aside, its awesome to see Palmer on film again. Reminded me of when I was a super excitable teenager watching him in awe on grainy ass vhs the first time round, all those years ago. f*ck yeah.
The dude left biking cause the x games came along and promised him more fortune and glory, whatever your views on his ability at 40+ He is there (as any factory rider) to shift bikes and increase brand visibility and fair play to intense. It's making me look at their website and think about a tracer as my next frame. And yes, he would still smoke 99% of you.
This makes me a little sad. I like to picture Palmer back in his prime, wearing that gold suit and blowing up corners without a care in the world. This video shows that he's a good ways off from the skill level and style of today's top riders.
Being in my 40s and watching him come onto the scene was pretty amazing. The race against voullioz was classic. As for the things he brought to the dh scene with intensity & style all I got is a big effin thank you, Palm.
he did qualify at mt st anne in 2009, and got 76th in qualies, and 75th on race day. not great, but not bad considering he said he'd only been back riding for a month...
FINALLY! Foot off moto turns are gonna be cool again! hahahaha
I wonder what intense xc racer he had to fight to get those bars?!
They have to get their of moneys worth of the Palmer contract somehow right now, racing season is over and I am sure none of us want to know what they signed him for. But they can't be paying him to do absolutely nothing for the next six months, sucks for us cause we will keep getting these sh*tty edits
I remember when Shaun first came to Big Bear and was ripping right off the bat and it looks like he is still having fun.
hate to break some hearts here but when we get older we all slow down BUT were still having a blast at the speeds we can do!
Wow. Some people have too much time to hate. Palmer is used to it and he thrives on people counting him out. Rad edit and good luck trying to keep up with him on any trail!
45 years old. Spent the last 6 years on the US boarder cross team. Came back to ride pro mtn bike races when time allowed. Did better than all of you. Films a nearby trail in a day, just cruisin' and pushing an XC bike - shows he's still got some skill and isn't worried about hurting himself for work on Monday morning. Ignorant internet heroes say that's not enough and compare the edit to what the current pros with bigger budgets and days shooting are putting out. Most of you don't deserve to be pedalling.
Haters gonna hate....Palmer is a legend and if he is back healthy and riding good on him. Maybe half you forgot what riding is all about....He looked like he was having fun shredding!!
I'd love to see him race but unless he's been working on his fitness, today's DH rider would have the edge. It's a different scene out there now. I'm sure he'd do ok in a race but he's better off to leave on a high note than try to make a comeback. Shredding and shooting videos and keeping the ledgend alive is better for him (unless he think's he's still got it). He changed mountain biking forever just when it needed a facelift and I hope everyone realizes that.
I fucking love Palmer. I don't give a shit what people say about him, you need a little attitude to stand out. Otherwise you'll look like a cookie cutter nice guy clean cut image type rider just like everyone else. I loved Palmers style, he brings the attitude. Which is purely why I love the guy. Go on Napalm.
Anyone know how old Palmer is? Compared to hill, schley and peaty? I think these guys are like the godfathers of biking really and I have a lot of respect for them. We wouldn't be doing half the stuff we do now if it wasn't for these guys.
Intense Bikes: I like what you do, with Palmer and Kovarik, all that flat pedal schralping and general, all-around dirt hooliganess, ripping and having fun. Yep, I like it.
why the hate?? Anybody here who's hatin on the Palm needs to remind themselves of what he's accomplished. Downhill, BMX, boardercross, skicross, snowcross, etc... Few athletes in ANY sport have racked up half as many accolades for what they've done. Stoked that Palmer is back in the game. And keeping in mind Lopes and Peaty still TRAIN at a world cup level not just race, Palmer does not, so we can't compare them at all....
As much as the dude has changed the sport, the sport has changed way more since he has left.
Not saying I am better or worse but, he looks pretty rough on the bike. Good thing he isn't on the team then.
weather your feeling good about him or not...The Marketing is good! Lots of views and comments. Either way this kool-aid is just fine. Bring on the Palm cuz love him or hate him you just gotta watch.
We have 45 and 50 year olds in the Seattle area that could get on a clunker and put that shit to shame. Whoever mentioned Lopes in the same breath is smoking crack. Lopes WON Sea Otter this year from what I remember.
the T275 is no slouch and frankly i was pretty excited to see him on it as there are not a whole lot of videos out on this bike. we see videos of DH bikes all day long.
why the love? 10 minutes?? wow you need a history lesson. if you wear a full face helmet or any kind of moto gear when you ride your mountain bike, you should throw out a big thank you to palmer. he did more things for the sport and the industry in his relatively short career than you will accomplish in 10 life times. another thing he did, landed the biggest contract ever signed making him the highest paid mountain biker (at the time) in history. palmer made plenty of money from both professional careers. he's not back for the money. he's back for the same reason we all have to get back on our bikes, passion. do yourself a favor and watch "shaun palmer: the miserable champion".
I agree Peaty is an ambassador for the sport, but if it wasn't for Palmer then mountain biking wouldn't have progressed as far as it has today. We might all be wearing skin suits!
Mtn biking wasn't cool enough for Palmer back when he got into it. Like, it was not cool. I'm not hating Palmer, I love the guy. Mtn biking was not very cool back then and I was in it. And really, neither was snowboarding. Palmer injected attitude into both sports that still resonates today. I wish he totally focused on motox because he would have had a shit ton of success.
Pretty sure there's not one PBer short of tippie and kinrade that could hang with palm on a mtn bike. Not then not now.
I struggle to call anyone with such an abrasive personality, dependent on drugs since dropping out of school an "Ambassador of the sport" but life takes all sorts and he was super talented at a whole host of emerging sports. I can respect the talent but he ain't no Peaty as an all round bloke
Am i the only one that wonders why the f*ck intense brought palmer back? he has next to no style on a bike (atleast in this video) I cant imagine he has what it takes to race anymore. He isn't even a nice outgoing guy to rep a company. seems like a big publicity stunt.
Stop ruining public trails with these massive skids and dirt billowing drifts. You wanna ride like a hooligan do it in your own backyard. This vid is like 'F*ck You, I'm cool', I prefer 'damn I can have fun shredding on this bike'.
That trail is obviously very hard packed. The stones and dust are just a loose top layer. He's not doing any more damage is necessary to get down the hill as fast as possible. A less skilled rider would have dome much more damage at 1m40's. That was school, pay attention.
Intense makes amazing bikes... this Palmer shit, you may as well get Offspring to be the brand brand ambassador. He was great in the late 90's but now he's that douche who top decked your toilet and ruffied your sister
Well Mitch Payton (owner of the somewhat successful pro circuit team) said he always wanted to give him a shot on his team but it never worked out as he was always too focused on snowboarding, DH or injured. Mitch has a good eye for talent so he must have been pretty good on a dirt scooter.

The internet sarcasm just don't work around here unless it's blatantly obvious...at which point it loses all it's whit and charm.
That being said, Palmer is awesome.
Until I saw all the slowmos and blowing up corners and realized this vid (or should I say "edit"?) could only have been made by some new school 12 year old filmer.

Palmer and Lopes on the same team could make some really good things happen for Intense.
I do like the moves Intense is making: new bike, new riders, new coach. They're taking chances, which is a good thing for the sport.
I wonder what intense xc racer he had to fight to get those bars?!

What did he do in BMX?
Anyone know what the song/band on the video is??
This vid is like 'F*ck You, I'm cool', I prefer 'damn I can have fun shredding on this bike'.
