Checking out a little drop

Checking out a little drop

During the past nine months that I have been living in Seattle, the mountain biking in the Pacific Northwest has been nothing short of incredible. Anybody that has ever ridden here probably shares the same sensational feelings about the special "hero dirt" that Mother Nature has so kindly blessed us with. Yes, it does rain for more than half the year... but that's what makes the PNW stick out from other places on the West Coast. Riding in the wet, the muck, and the mud with some good buddies just hooting and hollering all the way down some sketchy, slick, root scattered descent has become my favorite past time. Needless to say, I'm pretty damn happy with my new home.

One of the best opportunities I’ve had in my new home is with my job. One person I would like to give a special thank you to is my good friend (and boss) Matt Telmosse. It's not very often that you get to feel like you’re part of a family at your job... and that’s just the environment Matt has created down at the Polka Dot Jersey bike shop in Seattle. I feel extremely fortunate to have found someone who understands me as a person, and can be my boss and best friend at the same time.

The Diamondback 4Cross & Bigger Brother... The Mission

Matt is from New Jersey, but has been living in the Seattle area for almost a decade now. Ironically enough, he moved out here to push his mountain biking career to the next level, as did I. Matt shreds his bike pretty damn hard and as often as he can. With a new business, two beautiful baby twin girls, and an amazing wife, Matt is a stand up guy that I value greatly and look up to in more ways than one. His influence on me as a person and a rider is something I can’t quite put into words, so here is a little riding video we put together after a typical day of work at the Polka Dot Jersey bike shop. I feel pretty lucky to be able to mix work and play.

Love the video. Man does Radiohead suck though. I know, I am the only guy who hates Radiohead....
  • 7 10
Radiohead makes my brain hurt. Critics love them. Me, not so much. Nice trail though. Some significant consequences for coming up short on a few of those gaps.

its all good bman33, radiohead does suck bro!

Radiohead is so fucking sick. Their music has so much depth its hard to get tired of it. Always another layer to analyze...
  • 3 0
sure... but i dont think it belongs in edits
  • 1 1
Unless it suits the mood/message of the edit, in which case it would belong in the edit...
  • 4 3
I agree, Radiohead blows, especially for shred music...makes me feel like I'm nodding off from heroin. Cool video though, and those trails look sick. Too many damn rocks and fluffy dirt in CO. I want that PNW sticky!!!
  • 4 2
Radiohead is amazing end of story... Go watch "From the Basement: In Rainbows Sessions" And yes, the PNW is sick.
  • 3 2
No... Just No. Fuck that. Radiohead was an awesome choice. I usually mute the music in these videos because its so shitty. But this time I could finally listen to it.
  • 5 2
couldnt agree more they are a band for people that like talking about music not people that listen to music. The most over rated band ever. Depressing crap suicide music!
  • 2 1
As someone who actually PLAYS music semi-professionally, I can tell you they're not "for people that like talking about music not people that listen to music". They're actually for people who GET music, it's composition and the skill it takes to play instruments. Radiohead may just be one of the best bands in history. Fact: if you don't "get" Radiohead you have shit taste in music. Period
  • 2 0
 Yes! haha
  • 1 1
@ The-Medic. You my friend are the specific type of Ass Hat that generates my distaste for Radiohead. Did I say they didn't have talent? I get plenty of music. Who are you to judge me, or anyone for that matter, on who 'Gets' music? Hey they have talent sure. The fact that their music makes me want to jump off a bridge has no bearing on my "getting' music. So the fact that I like the Black Keys, Butch Walker, Frank Sinatra, or what ever band is on my playlist, yet not Radiohead qualifies me as someone who doesn't 'get' music? Dbag!
  • 1 0
Radiohead is far more complex (musically) than The Black Keys, Butch Walker, or Frank Sinatra. If you are trying to prove your point, perhaps you should more carefully choose the artists you use to support your "getting" of complex music.
  • 1 0
@Bman: yes, you may LISTEN to music, but you clearly don't get what it takes to make it. Butch Walker??? You're really going to throw that shit up as some "rebuttal" as to how you "get" music??? Wow... just wow. I would rupture my ear-drums intentionally if I had to listen to 30sec. of that utter crap. Frank... Ok, he had a nice voice if not a somewhat one dimensional tone, but it was his place in history at the height of "Vegas culture" that made him famous. There are multiple singer today that have every bit as great a voice and style and there were in his day too. it pays to have "connections". The Black Keys are great, but I have a suspicion your knowledge of them is limited to El Camino... Just a hunch but I'd bet I'm spot on.

I don't LOVE every single Radiohead tune, but if you go see them and listen to them a lot you'll constantly her all kinds of nuances and little things that add to the song as a whole and you can do this with nearly EVERY song. As a musician this is pretty impessive. And "want to jump off a bridge"??? So you've listened to what like 5 songs of theirs and now you're certain you don't like them and that they're a depressing horrid band??? That statement alone shows how little you know about them and yet YOU have formed a hard-line opinion so I'd say I'm pretty spot on in my "judgement" of you.

Have a listen to this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tk4goNqMdwE if I ever made a video I would put it to that song not only because it's amazing, but because it would drive small minded morons like you NUTS.

Now go do some sit-ups...

You two proved my point with authority. Close minded , pompous , arrogant , etc. "If you don't agree with me , you are wrong." I am so glad you have opened my eyes to the big wide world. If you read my original comment you may be able to even pick up my jest in making fun of myself for not liking Radiohead. I am sure you thought of that in all your musical wisdom though

Oh, and I own 5 of the Key's albums, don't own El Camino and have seem Radiohead 3 times. Still, don't like them. Hell , doesnt matterwho/what I like , It's what I like and don't. Maybe I will go pick up a Barry Manilow compilation tomorrow. Ha!

Nice guys and cool little shop, situated in the center of roadie hell on Lake W.... But don't let the Colnagos, Pegorettis, and Sunday old lady bike groups get in your way of working with Matt and co. on your bike.

Looks like good times!! Can definitely see the close proximity to the trails in British Columbia. Nothing like that here in Texas,,,,

I dig the Radiohead tune off of Kid A "in limbo"...have 3 c.d.'s of theirs. Their music is an acquired taste! I like the atmospheric stuff when in that mood!
