The life lessons that Christopher McCandless learns in Sean Penn's classical masterpiece "Into The Wild" is probably a bit too philosophical to be applicable on today's mountain bike community, but it is undoubtedly a good film title and it serves as a perfect layup for me to rant about what really matters when it comes to bikes. And ye, I found some sweet tunes with the same name so it all made sense to me. Let's put it this way: Don't give your entire $24.000 savings account to charity, abandon all your possessions and hitchhike to Alaska without telling anyone, but for the love of God, don't waste all of your precious time fighting over wheel-sizes, strange marketing moves or economic materialism. Make sure most of it is time well spent: on your bike, in the wild. Take a chill pill and go for a ride, it doesn't have to be more complicated than that. And remember; happiness is only real when shared!

WOOO! Someone is speaking truth on the wheel size debate: Take a chill pill, and go ride your bike!

for curiosity's sake, and i hope this doesnt start anything, both of those were 26" stumpy evo's, right? or was one a 29?

killer video regardless, soo much style

They were both 26.5"ers - they have the additional grip of a 650b wheel and the quicker acceleration of a 26" wheel. They will be all the rage next year, if not now!

On a serious note the two bikes were both 26" (I believe) - watching them cycle off the wheel sizes are the same...

the only difference is that the rear wheel of the yellow stump is bigger!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree, chill out and ride your bike. I have to disagree that happiness is only real when shared. I've had some of my best rides solo. I'd rather have a buddy with me, but I don't let that stop me from going into the wild.

Sick video!!! I have a 29er 100mm Giant Anthex X and a 26 160mm Banshee Rune V2 and always have fun regardless of what bike I'm on. Like the video said "Take a chill pill and go for a ride, it doesn't have to be more complicated than that" AMEN!!

Cool video but "Sean Penn's classical masterpiece"? You mean Jon Krakauer's, right?
  • 6 3
Sean Penn = the film, Jon Krakauer = the book. Made more sense to relate to the film in this context.

thanks guys for showing me that i need to ride my stumpy a lot faster and jump a little higher - i already thought something was wrong with it Smile

 Wow seriously?!
Don't get me wrong but this movie (and book as well) was a quite life-changing thing for me and I'm really sentimental about it. And I'm really disappointed. I thought this video would be more ambitious, more epic like Chris McCandless life...

BTW. You used "Into The Wild" as a title, backstory and all and You didn't use Eddie Vedder's song in your video?!! C'mon....

Take it for what it is, it's a 3min mountain bike web clip with a little twist to make it stand out. It's not an attempt to make a mountain bike version of Jon's book. I too love both the film and the book, so my apologies for disappointing you.

Stumpies are awesome, I have a evo version and wouldn't trade it for anything...maybe a 650b carbon version.
  • 2 2
Oh right, they haven't thought of that wheel size...
