I feel bad for Semenuk, although it might do him some good not to win for once. It will inspire him to train harder and push himself and means he won't take winning for granted next time around. It also gives Thomas Genon a turn in the lime light. The kid is really good and it's nice that he's gotten a win and to be fair he deserved it, he threw down some pretty big moves. A win at Joyride can really do things for you as a rider and it's cool that he got this opportunity. Semenuk is a great rider and he kinda already has it all - Sick sponsor, sick house, sick training area, rally car, his own tv show and he's already won Joyride once. It's nice that somebody else gets to experience some success...
im suprised noones mentioned cam mccaul yet super stoked for him coming back from such a bad injury and to podium at such a big event like joyride. not to mention tomas genon!!! 2 days ago i had no clue who this fella was!!!
1:37 to 1:40 ... watched it about 25 times, shot at a great angle ... gutted he didnt make a full run. Hope Zink is alright, usually gets up straight away, sadly it doens't look too good, hope he doesnt miss the rampage.
@Tom666 I think you are under the impression that he doesn't try. Train harder? Natural talent only takes you so far. It doesn't take you to first in the world.
@scotttablot. No, not at all. Semenuk trains just as much or more than any other rider out there. That's why he's the best of the best. But everybody needs motivation, experiencing some disapointment should help him to push his riding forwards and so he can re assert his dominance.
BEST contest video I've ever seen. Awesome work, perfect incorporation of the announcing audio with the video, awesome editing. 10/10 to you filming/editing guys holding it down for pinkbike!
Great Edit Guys!!! I was cringing waiting for it to turn into some dub step puke inducing remix, but it never did. Perfect song for the moments in the video.
You can't compair Rob Warner to the Crankworx announcers,Warner is just world class but i think he doesn't whanna do it because Crankworx have their own announcers for the whole event & Warner sticks to be the announcer for the UCI DH world cups. It's fair to say that Brad Ewens '' Shut the front door'' & Rob Warners '' Look at the time'' are the famous quotes in the Mountain Bike world.
nice to see someone come over to north america and be a wild card against the others. just heard about him a little back, and seeing him in a couple of previous competitions, was not expecting him to be this big so soon. props to thomas!
Gotta say, from watching the live webcast Martin came up funky on the second to last hit and it clearly stole his speed. He would have had that double tail whip 360 in the bag... and possibly a victory.
Man I think the crashes deserve they're own seperate video! what was landed was sick, and and what wasn't could've been even sicker! I can't believe how they walked away from some of that stuff, and I hope Zink's okay!
I've been to the last 5 and have to say it totally agree. Understandably there were shitty conditions with wind and dust. Not to mention when the time got changed because of a possible "electrical storm"
Yeah id like to see the wind conditions looked a bit more so many good riders crashed out due to being blown around and did any one else see how soft and dusty them landers were? maybe its just because I DJ but damn thrown some water down and pack them bitches in its joyride cant have soft dusty landes! Allt he riders that made down in one piece killed it and thomas killed it along with martin and Cam Def thing groves should have been 4th. Just good to see him back shredding this year.
This was pure carnage to watch live, really hope Zink is OK, he is the one who asked for the 60 footer too..
Could not of predicted the winners in this one..
Cam maccaul is the best,it doesn't matter how harder you practice, the thing matters is -- are you practicing for wining the event or practicing makes you fell good, that's why cam is the best, he ride to make himself feel good,he ride to enjoy.
Several thoughts- 1. Love how the progression is happening... 2. "Wow look at all the 29ers out there"- said no one ever 3. somebody needs to design a waaaaay more bomb-proof rear wheel/tire system...geez...
That comp looked like a lot of fun and really crazy. Hope the guys that went down get back up to healthy quickly and get back to riding hard. Looked like the set up was a killer for back wheels but fun to ride.
I don't think Martin Söderström had his head screwed on properly, I can't have been the only person to notice his goggles were on the back of his helmet Sick riding to bad about that last drop though...
awesome run by genon. he flatted on that final drop. so lucky that wasn't sooner... lots of luck out there - good and bad - but genon deserved the W. congrats.
the 60' footer was such a big gap that i don't think anyone should have won unless they tricked it. Serious commitment. Granieri flip no hander on a hardtail was insane
smenuk will always be my number one i am sure he would have won if his wheel hadnt broke. but its cool to see cam and martin on the podium the definately deserved it
Hahaha boo hoo semenuk! Thomas Genon is such a legend and i was so stoked for the top three, nice to see different people up there. I was quite suprised semenuk still didnt get a 96 even though he didnt make it down going on the way he has been judged recently! Great result!
Just because it was windy doesn't mean it wasn't fair. wind affects everyone the same. Not saying that it is by any means a desirable environment for hitting up to 60 foot gaps and It was unfortunate the weather played the way it did. but thats half the reason why we ride mountain bikes, we are at the mercy of mother nature, sometimes she plays nice, and sometimes she doesn't. Instead of taking the bad from this event, why don't you look at the good, you saw some unexpected faces on the podium, and it would be ridiculous to say that none of them deserve it.
Thomas Genon ruling the slopestyle on a bike, like Seppe Smits did on a snowboard
