The Pinkbike Deep Summer Wildcard Search will determine the sixth photographer to join the competition. Based on a submission of three photos, one photographer will be chosen to compete. Photographers interested in becoming the wildcard need to submit their photos at www.pinkbike.com/deepsummer by midnight, June 3, 2011.

The top five submissions, as determined by Deep Summer judges, will be posted on June 6. Public voting on the top five to determine the winner of the Pinkbike Deep Summer Wildcard Search will take place June 6 to June 13.

The wildcard photographer will battle it out with the pros, and work against the clock, to compile a slideshow from images shot over three days in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park and on Whistler's extensive network of trails. Each show will be presented to a live audience with first place taking home $5,000, second place $3,000, and third place $2,000.

The photographers will rally their chosen athlete teams to embark on three days of intense shooting and editing commencing Saturday, July 16. Slideshows will be handed in by the end of the day Tuesday July 19. Then, on Wednesday, July 20 a capacity crowd will experience deep summer in Whistler through the lenses of six elite mountain bike photographers.

What criteria will the panel be using to select the 5 wildcard finalists? Also, who is on the panel?

^ It'll probably be judged by legit photographers and it'll be based on the best bike shots. I mean it seems pretty self-explanatory and if you do take pictures then you should already know what makes a shot better than others. May the best MTB photographer win...

that's sad guys! ....Pinkbike Deep Summer Wildcard (the "Competition") is open to residents of Canada (excluding Quebec) and legal residents of the United States of America....

I imagine there are certain rules with monetary prizes, taxes etc that affect who can win. I also Imagine that they want the photographers to actually be legally allowed to turn up without any visa nonsense. It makes perfect sense.

The quebec thing is fine with us all. They don't want to be a part of our country so they will not compete. Smile

Doesn't 'www' stand for 'wolrld-wide web?' And since travel costs don't seem to be included in the prize, why exclude international talents? Can anybody say 'tall poppy syndrome?' Get with it pb guys

It's got nothing to do with travel costs, or "www", not sure why you think that makes a difference. I'm a UK national and I can't compete even though I live in Whistler. So get over it, it makes perfect logistical sense.
